How long does it take to collect all of the champions?

I had some free time today so I decided to figure out how long it takes to collect all the champions. It turns out, about 4 years.

Method: Step 1: How much IP would it take? 13 450 IP Champions: 5,850 22 1,350 IP Champions: 29,700 24 3,150 IP Champions: 75,600 46 4,800 IP Champions: 220,800 32 6,300 IP Champions: 163,200 (Note: This is calculated using 5,100 instead, as rolling champion shards (1,700 x 3) is cheaper than buying the champions at 6,300.)

Total IP Cost of All Champions: 495,150

Step 2: How fast do you earn IP? IP from Win: 18 + 2.312/Min (87.36 for a 30 Min Game) IP from Loss: 16 + 1.405/Min (58.15 for a 30 Min Game)

First Win of the Day: 150 IP Assumption: 3 Games Per Day, Play Coop vs AI any time you lose the first 2 games.

Daily Rate: 368 IP / Day

Step 3: Simple Division 495,150 / 368 = 1344 Days, or 3 Years, 8 Months

But what if I am willing to spend RP on champions to accelerate this process?

Step 4: Money / RP There are 3 RP purchase Tiers that make the most sense on a monthly expenditure for League of Legends, so I'll work with those.

$10: 1,380 RP $20: 2,800 RP $35: 5,000 RP

Step 5: Value as IP To estimate the RP / IP conversion rate, we use the 6,300 IP champion rate of 975 RP or 5,100 IP.

5100 / 975 = 5.23

$10: 1,380 RP or 7,218 IP $20: 2,800 RP or 14,646 IP $35: 5,000 RP or 26,153 IP

Step 6: Adjust the Daily Rate to include RP Purchases $10 / Month: 7,218 / 30 + 368 = 609 IP $20 / Month: 14,646 / 30 + 368 = 856 IP $35 / Month: 26153 / 30 + 368 = 1,240 IP

Step 7: More Division $10 / Month: 495,150 IP / 609 IP Per Day = 813 Days or 2 Years, 3 Months $20 / Month: 495,150 IP / 856 IP Per Day = 578 Days or 1 Year, 7 Months $35 / Month: 495,150 IP / 1240 IP Per Day = 399 Days or 1 Year, 1 Month

Step 8: Bonus! You can improve your numbers even more if you pool your money until you can buy RP at the best rate available, and also purchase 6300 champions only when they are on sale. Values below, you can do the math.

$10/Month: 1 Year, 6 Months $20/Month: 11 Months $35/Month: 7 Months

Of course, I have to stress that these numbers are for collectors who want to own every single champion, not a metric for being competitive in normals or even in ranked. Leveraging free week champions in order to define and purchase a roster 15-30 champions for a competitive ranked experience takes much much less time.

its all part of a system designed to keep you playing the game to earn more IP to get more champs/new champs therefore you end up being a customer longer over time and consume more riot products ... therefore they make more $

Now the truly scary part. (even if it wont be relevant in like 5 months).

I feel like collectors who are compelled to own everything are people who will average more than 3 games per day. In particular, I would expect the vast majority of players to have a different higher average on weekends.

New champs are also likely to come out in the process, so it'd probably be an extra couple months at your rates to account for buying as of yet unreleased champs.

If one really wanted to do some min/maxing of it, they might want to hold off buying certain champions who are due to have their price lowered when the next champ comes out. Or for that matter, just stockpile tons of IP until you can buy everything in one go, just so you can be sure you didn't buy something prematurely (i.e. before its price decrease).

Still, interesting math.

If one wants to achieve the most efficiency with this, they'd pool their money to purchase RP at the highest rates. The highest one listed is 15000 RP for $100. Furthermore, they would sit on this RP until 6300 RP champions are on sale, for 487 RP. Using this method reduces the time to complete the set significantly:

$10/Month: 1 Year, 6 Months $20/Month: 11 Months $35/Month: 7 Months

Of course that requires more patience since you're sitting on your money, and also waiting for sales. Using the RP to buy skin shards would also beat the option in the OP, but not by as much as waiting for champ sales.

I've played since season 3 and only almost have all the champ ( I think i need about 20 left). Although I did buy name change 2x with IP so there's that. I also only bought 2 rune pages and a few set of runes.

Takes about as long as collecting your first Rune page or understanding the logic of the tutorial

I started playing League in early 2013, like the first few months of the year. I owned every champion in the early summer of 2018. And i feel like I played A LOT of League during those years. For a vast, and I mean vast, majority of that time I played at least a few games a day. I probably bought 10 or so champs outright with RP. There were times I thought I would never own them all. . Honestly, I feel like it was a little too long. . . .

What gets me is they could sell something like an all champ pass for like 50 bucks or so, and make new players want to buy that and make a bunch of money that way, instead they'd rather nickel and dime you to death to make you keep playing. I like that you have to grind to get things, but at the same time they have a pay feature that is so inefficient. If you spend 50 bucks on league you already are paying alot for something that ultimately doesnt pay off. Find the champs you like and stick with them. Ive played every champ in the game and id say only about 20 of them I enjoy enough to play regularly.
