Rank by Role

Someone told me this was supposed to be a thing that they were planning on doing next season, but I haven't really seen or heard anything about it since. If anyone has any official information on it, I would appreciate a link.

Until then, I am just going to suggest it like it is a thing I believe would be helpful for the game.

Rank - by - Role: Pretty straight-forward. You get a rank for your performance as a top laner compared to other top laners. This rank is distinct from your rank as a jungler which is compared to the performance of other junglers. This is distinct from your rank in Mid, Bot, and Support.

Placements: Instead of 10 placement matches, you are required to play 5 matches in the same role in order to be placed into a division. Not as many placement matches would be needed because I believe the current system is designed to expect you to play at least one role over the 10 matches. This establishes your rank IN THAT ROLE ONLY. Other roles require their own 5 placement matches. Yes, that means you will potentially play 25 placement matches throughout the season. Theoretically, you don't have to .. but I'll get to that later.

Matchmaking: When entering matchmaking, the system will attempt to place you in your chosen position with teammates as close to the same division as possible in their respective positions.

Auto-fill: If the above is not possible without a significant delay, matchmaking will attempt to find other matches in which your ranking in the positions available to be filled will create a balanced match. This can include placement matches for unplaced roles.

• For example, If you are a Diamond Mid and a Gold Jungler, and there have been no available matches in the Diamond division in need of a Mid player (you) for a significant period of time, but there is a Gold match in need of a Jungler, you will be placed into this match as a Jungler.

This brings to mind something that I would anticipate being an issue. You're obviously a better Mid laner than you are a Jungler, and this may give you some leverage to be able to convince your mid to swap with you. The problem here would be that you will put your team at a significant advantage. I wouldn't expect for this to "hurt" your team in terms of gaining rank, but I would think this would do less to help your team. I think doing this should be allowed, but the LP gained should be somewhat reduced. It might still be worth doing, because a win is still better than a loss .. but I think this would help to keep it fair.

Overall Player Rank: For the sake of seasonal rewards, there should still be an overall rank given to players based on the rank of their top 3 positions. This would encourage and reward players for learning and improving their skills in more than a single role. This would mean grinding matches until you are a Platinum ADC won't mean your overall ranking would be Platinum if your next best role is Iron Support.
