Why do Lux stat pages always show 20% CDR builds?

darkdill··1 votes·1,095 views

Every time I look at the preferred Lux item sets, they're always settling for 20-25% CDR, not 40-45%. Is laser spamming somehow bad? Or are they too hung up on "you only get one spell per fight" mentalities?

Just build ADC Lux so you can reach the CDR cap.

I did this in ARAM once and it worked.

40% CDR is really hard to build without sacrificing a lot of AP. So it's more efficient to go one 20% CDR item, then into your big ticket AP items. Lucidity boots are an option.

I beg to differ. Not having 800 AP isn't the worst thing in the world for Lux, but if she has more snares and shields available she can do things besides just damage.

Then you lose out on the all valuable Scaling MR Glyphs that are crucial against any AP matchup.

The difference between MR glyphs and no MR glyphs is the same as having mana potions and not having them.

You learn how to play around it, plus CDR increases both offensive and defensive capabilities, should a champion have such spells.

In case of Lux it's a direct change to how often she can use her shield, which in the end fills the MR gap, but also how often she can use her snare, slow and ultimate.

Personally, I treat MR runes as an option in very tough, usually melee-ranged matchups. For example since I started using CDR/level on Syndra about two years ago not even once I went back on that decision.

the other issue with Scaling CDR Glyphs is that if you use 9, you get 15% CDR, Which means you end up with 6 (Which gives 10) and use 3 other blue Runes, or end up wasting stats.

Overall, yes, 40% CDR is nice, but most of the time it's so difficult to obtain. You have to create a specialized rune page, a specialized build path that's not 100% effective in all situations, and honestly,

20% CDR with more AP has some pros and cons vs 40/45% CDR with less AP.

20% CDR with more AP has a more potent one burst combo, while 40/45% CDR with less AP has a slightly higher DPS build. Both are usable, and in the case of Lux, both have situations in which they're preferable.

Or you get the 5% CDR Mastery and reach 20%?

I get literally just as much AP with 40% CDR as you with 20%.

That's why you get a single 5% cdr at 18 quint. That gives you 20% cdr, and I haven't regretted that decision.

Or AP/lvl glyphs. Those certainly hurt.

Or you know you could stay out of range and spam your lazer. I hear that works.

Because cdr is overrated on champions like lux, ahri, and leblanc. It should be treated as a stat like AP, where there's no cap, but having it still helps. You don't NEED 40% cdr. It's overrated.

Sqo1 votes

because, if your ult is on like 42 second cooldown, you can spam it

darkdill1 votes

30 seconds is even better. AND you get to spam your other spells much more often too.

Because CDR doesn't amount to any damage or utility that may come from other AP items that may not pertain any CDR. It's why they don't care as much for achieving max.

darkdill1 votes

Well that's just criminal. No 30 second lasers is toxic to me.

swiftsnipe1 votes

used to be 22 second lazers :O

It's because there's not really enough good choices to get 40% in my opinion. Like what are you going to get?

Morello's or Athene's... Then what? Nashor's? It's better (again, in my opinion) to just start with Morello/Athene and then start on items that actually deal damage and help with her wave clear like Ludens Echo, and then Rabadons and so on.

If I get Lux in ARAM I always go item 3174 + item 3158 + 5% CDR Mastery. I don't have CDR runes because runes are expensive, but it gets the job done. :3

It's much more important to have enough damage to burst an enemy down in one use of all your abilities than it is to have them up somewhat more often. 25% or so CDR is fine on her. If you build more you're not going to do as much damage.

Moulin Rouge1 votes

Because you get the other 20% from runes and mastery. Clearly no lux mains here because if you were, you'd know her standard rune page setup.

darkdill1 votes

AP/lvl glyphs are still really strong on her.

AlwaysByMySide1 votes

Take scaling CDR on Lux.

She's so safe and far-ranged that its weakness in lane probably won't ever really matter to be honest.

Catastrop1 votes

Scaling CDR glyphs are a thing.

Keep in mind, that you can always get an extra 10% CDR from Blue buff. You don't need to max CDR just off your build.

Your mana item + Lucidity is probably fine for what you need.

As for the whole AP vs CDR argument, That should depend on whether you need faster wave clear and CC, or higher burst. And that really doesn't need to be decided until the need pops up. (But if your ahead, extra AP will probably help you snowball better.)
