Can crits be compared to the magic damage of a spell?
The title is someone else's comment. This is the reply.
No, because autoattacks scale multiplicatively with 4 stats, vs 3 for spells. That extra stat (crit chance) makes a huge difference, even with much less AD than AP.
Simple example: 4x4x4=64, while 3x3x3x3=81.
Most math is in quote boxes, for easy skimming.
What would happen if AP scaled like AD?
To find out, let's add a stat called SpellBoost (SB). 100% SB -> double magic damage.
Then take a ziggs full build,
and make it scale like this:

![]()
120 AP, +35% AP=> 80 AP, 30% SB![]()
100 AP=> 40% SB![]()
100 AP=> 80 AP, 30% SB![]()
80 AP=> 50 AP![]()
70 AP=> 50 API basically took the AP levels down to the AD equivalents and gave SB equal to 1.5x the crit (to make up for IE's passive).
Full build: 635 AP => 260 AP and 100% SB
Not impressed? Let's check the damage
A rank 5 Ziggs Q does (255 + 65% AP)
On live, we've got 255 + (.65 x 635) = 668 With the changes, it's (255 + (.65 x 260)) x 2 = 848
The new build does 25% more damage with less than half the AP.
That is the power of hyper-scaling.
