Well keep in mind your champ's hitbox is a circle under their feet on the 2D surface of the map. For floating champs like Janna it's more misleading than most. The hitboxes probably look something like this: https://puu.sh/BfV3W/3538ccf916.png

I know I'm being generous with Amumu's Q because in my experience it seems like one of those really generous ones compared to the visual. It's one of the oldest skillshots in the game.

wow i didn't know it worked that way. I think they should have a better way of handling skillshots. Or maybe enable an option to see the hitbox circle around our champion.

Oh yeah, League being a 2.5D causes a lot of funny interactions.

Everything you see is on a 3D map with 3D models on a slightly tilted axis, but the actual "game" is played on a 2D plane under everyone's feet. It's why Jinx's W projectile doesn't always line up with her warning/aiming indicator which doesn't always line up with the actual hitbox. Not only does this cause some issues with, let's say "flying champions" (as well as champions jumping through the air like Tristana), but it also causes your skillshots to bug a tiny bit near the river and near the entrances to the base. If you're outside the dragon pit shooting in, the trajectory of your skillshot ends up slightly higher than it should be, for example. I suspect it's also the cause of certain AOE effects and projectiles turning invisible at random moments; they're stuck in the river when they should be up on the actual land, visually.

All hitboxes work the same in league, there is no point in explaining.

I'm pretty sure everybody is talking about how janna's hitbox is on the ground while she appears floating, so I'm not gonna go too much into detail on that.

I do believe that Amumu's Q additionally has a lolipop hitbox though, where the very end of the skillshot gets an extended hitbox in a circle alongside the initial line hitbox. Some other "bullshit skillshots" such as Nidalee spear and Blitzcrank hook have one as well. (Don't quote me on that tho hehe xd)

Play amumu once and tell me that the hitbox is too big.

The champ sucks and the hitbox is no where near the size of Morgana Q

You do see the Kai'sa mark right XD, but on a more serious note older champions have bigger hitboxes, be happy that is not Morgana Q hitbox which is bigger than a turret.
