lately I've never seen a weird trend. When I p Sion for Top Lane the opposing player pics of riven. This is a recent trend but I'm not sure why it's happening it's not like she counters him or anything. At least it's not matchup I've been losing. Anyone know why this is happening
Because she has multiple ways to cancel or escape his Q and ultimate, as well as essentially ignore his E damage with her own E, and she'd almost never get hit by his shield.
People play Riven against anything, because she is just a champion that is commonly picked. You could probably pick someone like Nautilus or Teemo or anyone Top and people would still pick Riven.

I have played against sion top only few times but sion feels pretty squishy early on idk why and riven has a great early game. Also sion lacks escape pre 6 so it is really easy for riven to get a kill on him early on specially if she has ignite and snowball from there. She can also easily avoid his Q with her dashes and sion would have a real hard time killing riven because she is just too mobile compared to him.
But seriously if sion builds full tank then for riven its pretty much impossible to kill him. So the lanes outcome depends on whether riven can win early or not.
Tbh, I thought this was a ship. And I was going to be very sad.
Basically she has all the tools to avoid/cancel his fighting or farming and she's got a powerful early game while Sion is squishy early game.
It's a favorable matchup for Riven. But she's squishy enough for her to regret not avoiding Sion's abilities.
Because whenever Riven is strong, people play her a lot especially in Low ELO because if you are good with her, she's sort of busted (in low elo especially).
Hmm, well Riven is really popular in low elo (she's fun :P) so that might have something to do with it.
