My thoughts on Sion Rework
I've played a fair amount of the new Sion, and I'm pretty dissapointed. Here is my indepth opinions on the champ, lanes, abilites, ect.
First of all, he seems to have no true role. His partial roles are
-Top lane, where he diesnt have alot of kill potential vs an even decent opponents. He doesnt do much damage unless built heavily for it, with his very slow AA speed. His Bubble can do decent damage, but his charge attack doesnt do crap unless you hit a full or near full charge, which most champs can easily dodge. And he is far to easily counterpicked, literally anyone with a ranged attack can either deny him farm hard and stunt his entire game, or just whittle him down for easy ganks or dive due to his too low health, which you cant farm up if you cant even farm.
-Jungle, where his low initial health hurts as well, and even besides that his clear time is awfully slow because of the very bad AA speed, and the horrendously slow movement speed. His ganks are at BEST sub par. He's got a little slow that isnt super effecive, and his Ult has issues of its own (more on that later) that make ganking with him really bad. If the enemy lane isnt ultra pushed, and/or the lane your ganking doesnt have some sort of slows or stuns of their own, they are going to get away before sion does anything worthwhile besides running in and screaming boo!
EARLY GAME- Not tanky enough for his supposed role, and not enough damage to be a threat. Jungle clear is really slow, pre 6 ganks are practically nonexistant, lane is super easy to be bullied and at best usuallly just a stalemate.
MID GAME- We'll assume you've managed decent farm. If you did this by staying in jungle, farming enough to have a respectable income, you didnt have time to uselessly gank lanes, so your teamates will be angry at you if the game is currently against your team. If you were in lane and had a decent farm congrats! Your still behind.... You cant build enough damage to be a real danger, and you still cant be tanky enough to be a real threat. Probably enough not to die without messing up, but thats best case scenario. Your mid game is late-early game for most other champs at your role.
END GAME- This is where you (potentially) shine. If your lucky. Teamfights is the only thing Sion is decent at really. The havoc he can cause with his Q can really give that edge your team needs. The bubble can cause decent enough damage, and decent survivability. Well placed E's can be useful. HOWEVER. Thats assuming everything to this point hasnt been as f_cked as it easily and often is. You can help, but not vastly sway engagements. If your team isnt already ahead, or at least strongly even, you cant do much to change the likely outcome of any teamfight.
ABILITIES
Q - This is potentially a great skill. However it has some big issues atm. First off is the damage output. It is pretty pitiful, even at full charge. If you build some heavy AD items, you can make it respectable, but at the cost of his tankyness, and straight damage output is never going to work on Sion how he is. The limited damage would be easily acceptable if it wasnt for the VERY BAD CHARGE TIME. It takes far to long to charge this skill. A full charge is rarely going to happen against enemy champs in game. Maybe if someone else stuns them. But even a slowed enemy can get out of the area of effect pretty easily to the side. Charge time needs reduced, and it should ALWAYS knock enemies up, longer charge maybe a longer stun from the knockup.
W - I actually dont have an issue with this skill, its great. Personally I wish the stupid AP was removed from it and have it AD/HP only, would help bolster his tanky aspect correctly, instead of adding something that shoudnt be built on Sion. But maybe thats just me.
E - Honestly I cant form a clear opinion on this skill. I dont think I level it early enough. Usually one of the last I max. I'm pretty sure though its damage is ignorable. The slow seems nice and the knocking a minion is cool, but it just hasnt seemed to make enough of a difference ever for me to have cared about it. I'll pay more attention to it and see what I really think about it, but thus far has seemed like a nail file in a swiss army knife. Useful, but limited.
R - The skill I love to hate. Honestly I like this skill, but for all the trouble involved, it is kind of bad. Its a skill that you get lucky with and sometimes it works, but there are to many factors to ruin it for it to be reliable. FIRST, the frakkin CAMERA. It centers DIRECTLY on your champ, which makes aiming this oversized bus impossible. You know a fight is nearby, but you dont know till the last second if anything is in front of you. The camera needs to center IN FRONT of you, whichever direction your facing. Not alot, but enough that you can react to whats ahead of you. ALSO, ruined towers should NOT stop you. Its just ridiculous. They are gone and destroyed, you should just power over them. This has been a constant source of frustration for me. Its already hard enough to see where your going, getting a charge stopped by a dead tower is just deflating. And yeah I know you can do short range charges from close but that seems like it defeats the main draw of the skill. Why have half a map range if its so easy to miss/be prematurely stopped.
PASSIVE - I like this alot. When I first heard of it I thought it was going to be OP as frak. But its not. You are mean as hell, but you arent going to live long, and even with the boost it seems that its not terribly hard to outrun/outmanuever Sion, so I think its pretty fair. I get outran with this more then I get kills with it, so I feel its balanced.
CONCLUSION- I like Sion, he's kind of fun to play, but the lingering sense of being a minor addition to a fight either already in your favor or already against your team, is kind of dissapointing. I dont feel like he can be a factor in changing the outcome of a game. He could use more damage to make jungle clears faster, more natural durability for sure, desperately in my opinion, and some tweaks to his skills. Hopefully Riot continues to tweak and improve him, instead of saying "ok we reworked him, we're done now"
TL/DR - Well, to bad. If you didnt read it your just lazy.
-These are my opinons, and all typo's/grammar issues are because I had alot to say and didnt feel like watching as I typed and didnt want to go back and fix things.
