[POLL] Should there be a "Warded" ping?

darkdill··129 votes·2,311 views

The lack of a "Warded" ping leads to plenty of miscommunication, but some people also claim that muscle memory is a reason to NOT have such a ping, as it could throw people off.

Let's settle it with a poll, shall we?

I actually type "Warded" in Game chat & use the regular ping 3-4 times to ping out where the ward was spotted. A "It's Warded" Ping would make this less distracting if I'm playing as the support & would simplify things a little bit.

The problem is the typing part. You shouldn't be typing when you're supposed to be controlling your Champion.

I take the time to stop moving just to type, but you are right about it being a problem.

I often set my champion to move to a location, then type during the movement. In everything spare actual combat or really intense laning situations, I find this suffices to both type something and not have any 'down time' of uselessness.

Theres literally no reason not too. None. Zero. A 5 ping wheel is still easily manageable and wouldnt take long to be used to and i can finally stop G pinging bushes repeatedly to my teammates confusion to which i must find a safe place to sit and say "Ward bush/location" and then back to the game.

Honestly if it were up to me the H key, right next to G and not doing much, would be a Ward Ping Wheel. With 4 options "Im warding here"/"Please ward here"/Is there a ward here?"/"Theres an enemy Ward" Vision is a make or break mechanic in this game and those who utilize it to the fullest win more often. We can ping literally almost anything else, even our Ping(ms), but not ward placements/information???

I'd be happy to have even just a single keystroke ping, similar to the ones we have now. I don't want to use the ping wheel when I'm trying to ping a warded bush when I'm dodging Ezreal and Lux Q's in bot lane. I would say "Warded" "Not Warded" "On my way to ward" "Ward with me" (or something along that last one, can't think of better phrasing at the moment) would be what I would like, from a support's viewpoint.

Silverjust1 votes

you could ping the ward ping and combine it with the normal ping, so "ward" and "danger" means its warded, "ward" and "on my way" means I will ward, "ward" and "help" means I need help with warding and "ward" and "missing" means can you ward here

DarkRitual1 votes

Sure, I could. I would still enjoy having a dedicated ping for it though.

58697132DEL11 votes

Okay but how do i tell my team that these are what those combined pings mean? Every start of game I need to copy-pasta this in chat? no way, and What if they dont realize and face check a brush im pinging "warded" because they thought i was pinging that want them to ward it?

There is NO reason not to have these pings in game by now, especially with how much Riot stressed "Vision Plays" with their stealth and Vision Ward changes

Silverjust1 votes

right so maybe a new ping wheel that is ordered like the normal one but for wards

Viktorious Sayph1 votes

I think they could add it into "H" (next to G) and add some options within "warded" option

Zelorxon8 votes

HELL YES.

Those are the pings league needs right now

-Danger -Missing -OMW -Help -Ward here -Warded here -Push -Freeze

Spice POWAH3 votes

don't forget a ping that says "I immediately regret my descision" c:

Otacustes1 votes

We already have the missing ping for that :P

I think Custom Pinging would be the best. Give about 10 options for pings and give the player the option to combine them as needed for easy access.

Some people would rather prefer making a combination of 2 or 3 pings to specify the problem on site

Warning and caution are pretty much the same thing anyway

darkdill15 votes

Those have plenty of room for misinterpretation.

Agreed. If I'm coming in for a gank and the (say) toplaner pings danger or caution, it could mean there's a ward, could mean (if they're facing Teemo) that there's a shroom there, or maybe their spells are on CD...

Jet Sett7 votes

I tend to think the jungler is in there when that happens, or they want me to just leave them alone.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

See, I didn't even think of that. That's two more potential messages.

Snowman Arc2 votes

Not really, there is a case where you yellow ping someone to go back, because it's a good recall time (especialli in lane), and then there is the red ping where someone is coming to gank your lane and you MUST go back.

Silverjust1 votes

how do you yellow-ping someone back? its not on the normal ping

Friendly Ram2 votes

I normally use danger/caution when i see the warded spot.

NekoniClaws2 votes

! > ?, ! > ?

That's the one I go with for 'warded', (but it's also 'could be occupied')

A real warded ping would be sweet.

BladeSingularity2 votes

I think that's a great idea. I, for example, can be a slow typer in the chat, and sometimes, by the time I've typed out "warded" and am about to hit enter, my teammate's already walking into the trap. I think the instant warning that a ping can provide would help out here. Thanks for bringing this up!

@Riot look at these numbers guys.

"270 people thing we should get more alert pings out of the millions of players we have. Let's do it."

LAWL (I do think it's a good idea.. but looking at the current numbers would be not helpful)

LoopKat2 votes

It's almost like those millions of people all use different boards and, almost undoubtedly, won't see one poll in a random thread in a sea of threads.

As it stands, 94.26% of the people who have voted think that there should be a "warded" ping. Small sample size, but it's still an overwhelming majority of the participants.

This is just grossly inaccurate as the vast majority of players who play this game don't use any board and simply play the game.

As it stands, 94.26% of the people who have voted think that there should be a "warded" ping. Small sample size, but it's still an overwhelming majority of the participants.

When the sample size is less than 1% of those actually playing the game the sample is not large enough to use as a statistic. If you were to take the remaining million people and have them all participate the result could go either way.

58697132DEL11 votes

Actually Riot THEMSELVES have said that way more players post on their reddit far more than the boards. This makes sense as people can use reddit for other things in addition to league while these forums are so tedious to access that i basically had to bookmark the homepage.

Yes, the sample size is small and the overall statistics unknown BUUUUUT Using critical thinking and pattern recognizing We see that with 95% saying yes, the nos admitting in the thread they mostly just didnt wanna say yes (but like the idea) and even more of the comments saying "why isnt this a thing?" tells us that Its worth getting some attention from Riot themselves, even if just to say "We will think about it" or something.

58697132DEL11 votes

I was meaning more like 95% of the people that voted and literally all but like maybe 3 comments are saying this is a much needed very necessary feature. Not the literal numbers, if a red would post in this thread that yes could hit 1K by nightfall.

This reminds me of one of the things I like about SMITE. Their ping system is menu based. You hit the key to open the list, and select sub-menus and individual items by hitting single keys. Using this, it's possible to say in at most four keystrokes that an enemy is attacking left lane, or the jungler is ganking right lane, or that you're returning to base, or (my favorite since I play a lot of support) for an ally to save them-self. The whole design wouldn't work as well in League because it's more point-and-click oriented, but having something where you could use mouse gestures to convey such info would be nice.

LuxannaVeritas2 votes

Yes PLZ.

As a support, I know at lower ELOs the signs of when the enemy is warding something. However, having to type "That bush is warded" and ping a few times takes a bit of time.

This ping would make lives easier!

If I do a normal ping the jungler will think "Gank from here" If I ping danger the jungler will think "Enemy in this bush" If I anything else they will just get confused

statelesskiller2 votes

if you pang assist in a bush they will think to gank from there also, if you ping danger they will think the enemy jungler is there FMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMML

darkdill2 votes

Exactly. Those two pings are often interpreted as something else, which is why a "Warded" ping would be MUCH more clear.

Xyntheyxz1 votes

As a support main DEFINITELY YES

Ultîma1 votes

We can have "Be careful" and "Danger", but we can't replace either one of those with a "Ward here" ping.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Only if there's clarification, otherwise there could be confusion between whether it's an enemy ward or ally ward. Mostly since not everyone uses the minimap.
