If my team plays less overpowered champions than the enemy team I can pretty much guarantee a loss. If my team plays more overpowered champions than the enemy team i can basically guarantee a win. This has never not been the case. Meta champions have always been a step above every other champion. It's why people make tier lists.
But that doesn't mean you can't outplay or outsmart your opponent. It just means you've probably resigned yourself to being inferior to that player because your champion isn't as good.
