how do you play Brand?

Hi all! I rarely play Brand now, but i used to main him last season , he paved my way through gold to plat, since I used to do well and carry games. Problems started when I noticed that he has serious problems with builds: since lyandry and rylay are a must on him, there is little space left to anything else in just 3 item slots. If I build a rabadon and a zhonya, I'm left with no CDR or magic penetration (void staff)... Things got even worse with the rise of the assassins in mid: I started to lose too many games ,because of a zed or a fizz, to the point I felt like I did't want to pick him anymore, despite loving his theme and character...

Now in the meta of tanks, Brand may gain a role in the meta gain. I used to play him with 21/9/0 masteries and with runes of full magic penetration (marks and quintessence for a total of 15) .

Could you suggest me a build or runes which solve his building problems? Thanks ^^ and sorry for bad english.

Stack as much AP as you can to literally 1 shot the entire enemy team.

With 1 or 2 defensive items if you must.

You can build Brand several different ways. A lot of it depends on what you're up against.

is what my friend likes to build and he generally does pretty well. The guise + sorcs are for snowballing in lane if he can land his skillshots, rylais slows people down in the midgame to make landing said skillshots easier, then just tons of AP and penetration to finish your build. Works really well against multiple tanks.

Standard mage build is also extremely good on him. Ludens procs a lot because of his burn passive and the CDR + Ludens is really nice for waveclearing. Recommend this if your team lacks waveclear and sustained damage. item 3165 item 3020 item 3285 item 3135 item 3089

What I get on Brand is: item 3020 item 3151 item 3285 item 3165 item 3116 item 3135

I get item 3285 because it gives you a much needed mobility boost, the AP is nice and the damage from the passive procs item 3151 and item 3116 . I try to poke as much as i can but bieng carefull i have enough mana if a team fight breaks out.

For runes I run Magic Penetration Marks and QUints, Mana Regen Seals and Scaling CDR glyphs.

The seals allow me to keep poking and the glyphs + Sorcery Mastery + item 3165 gives me the 40% CDR.

I don't take Armor or MR runes because i feel Brand is a glass cannon and those runes wont change that very much
