"You have to ping when you're ganking"
Do I?
Sure, I understand that it is nice to give a heads up so that the laner can attempt to conserve abilities that will help secure the kill, ..
But shouldn't the laner be expected to keep an eye on the mini-map for where the jungler is? Maybe that is just something that I do and I'm expecting too much from other players.
I mean, if I need to ping in order for you to react to me walking into your lane, ... what do you do when enemy junglers show up? I am pretty sure they are not pinging you.
I believe this is another distinction between the mindset of someone who jungles and someone who only plays in lane. As a laner, you mostly need to keep an eye on your lane. You absolutely should be aware of how your other laners are doing, but for the most part, you aren't responsible for covering their flanks. You do however need to be aware of what is surrounding your lane, and the location of your jungler should be included in that. If they are nearby, they may be preparing to gank, so you should be prepared to receive a gank. Or, they may be nearby to farm, and if when they are done farming a camp, they see that your lane is a good opportunity to gank, they may follow up. So you should do your best when they are nearby to make your lane seem like an ideal place for them to come to, but to do that, you need to be paying attention.
From the jungler's perspective though, .. we can't just instantly show up to a lane as soon as you decide it is the best time for a gank. And if we are already there, but you decide that we shouldn't gank, we are wasting important time and pressure. We have the whole map to pay attention to, and we need to farm as well. There are so many times where I will be near a lane, and it doesn't look like a good time to gank, so I will go farm, then when I finished a camp, it suddenly looks good and I'm already there. I don't always have the time to make sure that you are prepared for me to gank first, or the opportunity will pass.
So, .. am I wrong?
