The only reason I don't like this new, fast meta.

Colgate Gator··23 votes·2,625 views

Ironically, my main problem with the meta isn't the game itself but the people. People seem to think that comebacks have ceased to be something that happens in the game which, as long as you don't fuck up, the enemy team statistically has higher chances of throwing the game than yours. A lot of the victories feel extremely underwhelming, as people have never been this defeatist before, I think most of my games have ended in the enemy team surrendering between the 20-25 minutes mark.

It feels quite "meh" to begin building up an advantage and then your rival team going "Fuck it" and plugging the cord by surrendering, or the opposite side (only when I play by myself, as my premades usually go along with me), that the enemy team begins building up an advantage, but you KNOW there are sides you can exploit to get back in the game, but your team just decides that it can't be done.

FFS.

Not to rain on your parade, but...

The minion changes haven't hit live yet.

Say goodbye to comebacks.

Raining on your raining parade, it hasn't hit live yet.

I'm talking about the current gameplay for the past week or so, not the future, and everybody knows how volatile unimplemented changes can be. There's a chance that RIot has been keeping a check on the current state of the game and they decide to pull back on many snowbally changes in 5.23, we can't know until the changes go through.

LadyRenly5 votes

surrender at 20-25? Lol a lot of my matches, people have been "surrendering" at 10 minutes.

Losing towers before the 7 minute mark does that to ppl

Colgate Gator1 votes

Well I'm talking about the strict definition of "in-game surrendering" haha, not the point where people give up.

LegitBusinessman3 votes

I had a game where we had 3 of our inhib towers and two of our inhibs down, and kills were 14-12 in favor of them. How does that even happen?

The sad thing is we outplayed them late game and ended up like 37-26, our team up 11 kills, and despite massively outplaying them in 3-4 teamfights in a row, we still lost the game because the early game snowball is that ridiculous.

Wtf is riot smoking releasing this garbage?

With all the cool champ/item changes, Riot suddenly decided paper-mache's were the best objectives... I have no idea where that idea came from. Don't they understand that core match goals are actually suppose to require effort? Smite got it right. In that moba, the nexus is a FREAKIN' TITAN that KILLS YOU if you try to take it down without serious backup. Now THAT is how you make an objective fun. Turning towers into glorified map paperweights is not.

That's because Smite doesn't have nexus turrets. Rather, the turrets and the nexus itself are all combined into one objective. You can, of course, try to take down the nexus turrets in League without backup. Good luck with that.

GetMariahCarried1 votes

Yeah, but they don't chase you out of the base (and at this point they melt like butter). But eh, I guess you're right. Really, the only big problem is how easily towers, nexus, and inhibs drop right now.

Surrenders are out of hand can't argue that.

Colgate Gator4 votes

It has became genuinely aggravating how quickly amd often people are to just say "Fuck it, I'm done."

The saddest part is, I'm not even talking about Ranked, where tensions are high.

The Ecdysiast3 votes

In Ranked, people don't surrender. It's common knowledge that any chance at winning in ranked is a chance to take.

In Normals, where you're supposed to have fun, there's no reason to hold onto a 10% chance because 2/5 players are playing solely to win. No one's having fun at that point.

Colgate Gator1 votes

Oh, you'd be surprised.

I've had far more "I'm done, GG" people at rankeds than I have had on Normals, even if it completily defies the very logic of wanting to climb up.

Also I'll pick up your 10% chance and raise it to 50%, just because I can throw percentages as well :v

Zexion2 votes

I don't know what game or what division you are in, but that is definitely not common knowledge. People still surrender at 20 in plat. Can't speak for diamond+.

Biffolo1 votes

Shit happens there too. It's just not worth it to play out games where you are gonna get rocked. Surrenders even on pro player streams seem to be more frequent the past few days. People ff pointless games so they can stop wasting time and get to the next one.

JChaosMaster2 votes

They are possible but often not worth it. Stated devolver is a good example of why. Even if no one on both sides directly feed after the if on side gets two dragons and you don't the game is basically over. Even in lcs you know who will win in under 15 minutes. They just know how to drag a game out so unless there is a super big play or mess up that team still wins.

Plus riot is introducing the snow ball system so if one team gets ahead they get global buffs. There is nothing however to help a losing team caught up.

"nothing" like the extra ambient gold for the two lowest gold players? Or the fact the stronger minions means less distance to go from your nexus to farm? Wait to see how it plays out man.

Wait what? I never even heard about that first one

From the Patch 5.22 notes: "BAILOUT: After 12 minutes, the 2 members of each team with the least gold at any given moment gain an additional 2 gold per 5 seconds (increasing by 0.1 per minute)"

This isn't much of a "comeback mechanic" because it provides the same amount of gold to each team. And the way it's worded, it sounds like the gold flows to the players who are holding the least gold, i.e. whoever shopped for items most recently. Which seems to me like a bizarre basis for distributing free gold.

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-522-notes

With items costing more as part of our global efficiency pass, we're injecting more cash into the flow, as well as a little extra for the down-and-out.

FOR DOING NOTHING, YOU GET 9.5 gold per 5 seconds ⇒ 10.2 gold per 5 seconds BAILOUT After 12 minutes, the 2 members of each team with the least gold at any given moment gain an additional 2 gold per 5 seconds (increasing by 0.1 per minute)

Ok, I misread that. I thought it was the bottom two globally, not bottom two each team. So this is not a catchup mechanic.

Well now its impossible to contest baron when every single lane is constantly pushing, It's literally impossible to apply any map pressure because your entire team is AFK wave clearing. I can't even count how many times my team has destroyed/lost a tower because the other team/our team didn't have the map awareness to even notice, but now thats impossible because you're always getting pushed in.

Stronger minion for the team with more kills.

I've noticed the same thing: had a game where our team comp was garbage, but we won all three lanes, all grouped and aced them once - pushing down mid we over stayed, they killed 4/5 of us. They came back down mid lane, were pushing hard... one of them got caught out... FF from them @20. They showed their comp was superior, even behind, but the mindset of "They have a lead" was too heavy for them.

Come backs do exist. I've had a few in this preseason. But I'll admit that it is pretty stompy at times. It's much easier for a hyper carry (except Vayne. I make sure she starves) to get fed now and I'm not sure if lane bullies can do their job right. I could be wrong.

I miss full build

GenghisEmo1 votes

Ss things are now, you can still comeback if the enemy throws, and the enemy can come back if your team throws.

But once the new minion updates hit, we could see the end of comebacks even with the standard throws, unless you Super Throw. So it seems instead of being punished for the throws and greed, teams that throw can still be fine if minions are strong enough, or at least in theory. Which is my concern. So far so, i am open to it, but with some caution.

Its particularly annoying when I play Swain and We're losing but I KNOW with my end-game build I can become nigh immortal vs full 6 item people.

Yet my team never wants to hold out that long and just surrenders.

This is exactly why I'm taking a break from league. If anyone finds pre-season annoying then take a break from it, come back in a few weeks and try again.

Ya I decided to level up another account while they get things balanced out in the preseason.

This whole issue has bewildered me. I can't picture a person who perseveres in tough matches suddenly going "Screw it. New season. Done trying. Gonna rage quit every match at 0 2 now." But how am I to explain why 90% of players quit as soon as humanly possible. Where did all the players I actually LIKED playing with go? I mean, people didn't even have TIME to get a feel for how snowballing and balance changed under the adc patch before they suddenly started to give up every match. I'm pretty sure I noticed this new quitter phenomenon starting at Day 1 of pre-season. Did the whole community get replaced with new people? Did a bunch of players with banned accounts come back after some season rollover ban lift? What the heck is going on?

Teeter Dance1 votes

I think the weaker turrets exacerbated this mentality as well. Its so demoralizing when one small mistake can easliy cost you 2 turrets before the 10 min mark.

Zexion1 votes

People generally complain for no good reason, but it has been overwhelmingly easy to get a defeatist attitude in the game's current state. I've completely stopped playing until the game feels fun again. I have yet to enjoy a win or loss this patch yet. I know once my team wins a team fight, the game is 95% ours, or vise versa.

The upcoming patch will make games even more miserable and shorter with making creeps even snowball. I didn't know Riot wanted their games to be 15 minutes long to be honest. It is sad how turrets stop meaning anything past 10 minutes, adcs are buffed through the roof, and they nerfed everything that encourages team fights and not pushing.

In the current direction they are going, it isn't going to be just a meta shift, it will be a completely different game.

Wînter Fox1 votes

The game is a complete stomp fest right now. No one wants to play passed 10 minutes because one or two kills decides the entire game. An early back or a couple of cs behind easily translates to a Rift Herald/Baron take and the overloaded/overpowered item #7 over you.

  • Tryndamere gets one kill on you top lane? GG.
  • Udyr manages to farm unhindered for 15 minutes? GG.
  • You're not a full tank, glass canon, or both simultaneously (Graves)? GG
  • There's a Nasus in the game and its not over by 25? GG.
  • There's a Yasuo in the game? GG.

I agree 100%. I like to win, but when the other team gives up and surrenders at 20 minutes when they are down like 5 kills and 2 turrets it feels pretty bad. It was more than possible for them to play well and make a comeback, they just choose to quit 9 times out of 10 right now.
