If you are a tank top laner, your opponent gets free gold and xp.

If you pick a tank in top lane, you are giving your lane opponent free gold and xp. Here's the reasons why.

  • TP has a 6 min CD, the longest cd in the game. Longer than Flash. Once you use it, you give up agency in your lane unless your lane opponent teleports, too. However, the risk is big when you TP. If you get nothing out of it, or even die, your opponent gets big rewards from it.

  • Wave management is very tough against most top laners who can fast push. You can have your wave set in front of the enemy turret, and when you TP, it only takes them two waves to get to your turret. All the meta top laners are fast pushers, so they will take turret plates.

  • Turret plates. These things make it so if you even think about leaving lane to join a fight, the enemy top laner gets paid for not joining the fight. That's right: the enemy top laner gets 120 or even 240 gold, near kill gold, just for not having to go help their team. Feels like welfare in way.

  • Being a tank is tough these days. Too many champs have free tools to make tanks life difficult. Our health is drained easily by the superior abilities of bruisers, adcs, mages, juggernauts, and even supports. If we had more health or some kind of built in damage reduction, tanks would be able to do a lot better. But our base stats and items are too weak to contend with most champs after level 6.

Tanks are fine play them. Like nothing you said was true.

You're kind of contradicting yourself. You're talking about taking a tank into the top lane, but you said, "All the meta top laners are fast pushers" ... so unless you're playing a non-meta top lane tank, .. you can also fast push.

So basically, if you're playing a tank support in the top lane, you're probably lacking some wave clear, .. but you're also playing a non-meta champion in top, .. so you're going to be at a disadvantage.

Although, even some tank supports have wave clear.

So again, please clarify who you're talking about.

K, but on the other hand tank supports are really good right now. And jungle tanks aren't as bad as they used to be (though they're still kinda bad).

Tanks need a way to adapt.

What if AP tanks started going for item 3068 item 3151 for agressive DoT damage?

All facts, but at the same time frontlines are still super important in teamfights. If your team has a bruiser or juggernaut top they might be useful in a teamfight... or they might get stomped and be useless. Tanks are useful always. And of course a marksman top brings no frontline value at all, so if there isn't a tank in mid or jg your team is screwed in a 5v5.
