If you are a tank top laner, your opponent gets free gold and xp.
If you pick a tank in top lane, you are giving your lane opponent free gold and xp. Here's the reasons why.
-
TP has a 6 min CD, the longest cd in the game. Longer than Flash. Once you use it, you give up agency in your lane unless your lane opponent teleports, too. However, the risk is big when you TP. If you get nothing out of it, or even die, your opponent gets big rewards from it.
-
Wave management is very tough against most top laners who can fast push. You can have your wave set in front of the enemy turret, and when you TP, it only takes them two waves to get to your turret. All the meta top laners are fast pushers, so they will take turret plates.
-
Turret plates. These things make it so if you even think about leaving lane to join a fight, the enemy top laner gets paid for not joining the fight. That's right: the enemy top laner gets 120 or even 240 gold, near kill gold, just for not having to go help their team. Feels like welfare in way.

Being a tank is tough these days. Too many champs have free tools to make tanks life difficult. Our health is drained easily by the superior abilities of bruisers, adcs, mages, juggernauts, and even supports. If we had more health or some kind of built in damage reduction, tanks would be able to do a lot better. But our base stats and items are too weak to contend with most champs after level 6.
. You're welcome!
