Player base: We want this RNG of crits gone or nerfed.
Riot: Alright, we will make it so that crit chance is more abundant so you are more likely to crit and nerf attack speed on a lot of items like trinity force and remove zypher all together.
Player base: ...that is not what we wanted.
Riot: But now crit chance is more reliable to happen.
Player base reluctantly sighs and some of them start walking away to play other games that they enjoy more these days

I will give the op that preseason had tons of talk about this from devs, In fact it was even announced at one point that crit WOULD BE REMOVED from the game soooooo he does have a basis for his thoughts.

I would say that shutting down TB and shutting down Dominion would actually have a larger impact on the "active" playerbase than crit rates.
I am not saying it is a majority of the playerbase by any means just that it has more of an impact.
