Illaoi stat adjustment tldr

HI Riot. I appreciate that you buffed illaoi awhile back, but not really. I am glad you have worked to make the champ viable. This is very good -- something you should strive to do with all your champs and which you generally do. The problem though is that illaoi currently is 99% unbeatable if you don't have amazingly low ping for your internet. For the majority of players, you literally can't 1v1 unless you are EXTREMELY better than your opponent. And eventually she becomes tanky enough she can take any trade in lane no matter how bad, and just keep sustaining while her opponent cannot -- giving her a slow cs lead. Sure, you can ask for jungle ganks early, but if "countering a champ" requires a jungler to camp a specific champ for the entirety of levels 3-7 (or something like that) early game to give his/her laner any chance of winning or going even 1v1, there is a problem. Most junglers will not do this, and they shouldn't be expected to have to camp a specific lane; it robs them of the flexibility and unpredictability needed by successful junglers. So why is illaoi so freaking stupid at the ping I play -- I don't have crap internet either -- just not lcs level ping. Illaoi: q -- feels like it heals for way more than it should; last i checked, it is SUPPOSED to heal a SMALL portion based on MISSING HP -- has more range than some adc auto's (she's a melee champ riot she shouldn't have this kind of range w/o tradeoff by being weaker if the gap is closed on her -- like kayle) -- is insanely spammable and does a ton of damage for negligible mana cost; if you are spamming q, you should oom quickly -- it's hit box is so fat, you practically can't dodge it if your internet is lagging even a bit (depends on the day and time -- I know what to watch for, but by the time my display shows it, it is too late); consider increasing the mana cost, decreasing healing (way too generous for how easy it is), or nerfing the damage. Compare it to darius q or cho q. Darius q is similar to illaoi's but offers way more counter-play because it is easier to dodge (way less range and slower feeling animation), depletes more of darius's mana, and you can be hit by it but still dodge the outer part to prevent him healing from it. Cho's q offers similar range to illaoi and it's damage is probably comparable; however, cho can toss out about 3 q's and then be oom in the very early game. Meanwhile illaoi spams away her q and doesn't give a crap. Oh, and cho's q doesn't heal him -- unless you kill a unit with it (activating his passive). Due to this already being a tldr post, i'll skip to her ult. Her ult is way too generous with the number of tentacles spawned. If they had smaller hit boxes, it would be ok, but they are so fat that literally half the circle of tentacles is covered (more if she had multiple tentacles in the area beforehand). Factor in that she can essentially be tentacle slapping you every 2 seconds for the duration of her ult, the hitbox size of the tentacles, and how much they heal for, and you get a very messed up broken champ. Hell, I've even lost a lvl 6 vs lvl 6 all-in on an illaoi when I started higher hp than her and dodged every tentacle from her ult's initial blow. This with my main top lane champ who is supposed to be decent vs illaoi and is supposed to be a lane bully early game. I'm no renekton slouch, and I'm a solid rumble too. If I play things right, I shouldn't be getting my butt handed to me 1v1 early purely because the other person picked a broken champ. Why don't I play illaoi then? Because I enjoy winning through SKILL -- something illaoi players don't need to have to win. I feel bad if I win through picking a broken champ that takes 0 skill or through having jungle camp my lane opponent from lvl 3 on until the enemy is either denied so much cs and xp, they can't 1v1 me or is killed so many times the same result happens. Thus I don't do this -- I play to win yes, I try my best, but I don't play to make the other laner's game a living hell just because they happen to be playing against me. And if I do make their game hell, it's because I outplay. I beat their 1v2 camp of me and spam taunts because I outplayed them after they kept spamming taunts at me as though they made some great play zoning me off cs and forcing me to farm under tower or getting a random kill because i'm 1v2 all laning. So refocusing on the point of this post... While some champs inevitably outscale or beat a different champ 1v1 or 2v2 in their role, they should be winning hard only if the person playing that champ actually OUTPLAYS their opponent. If the opponent outplays them and makes the right decisions to the best you can expect at a given level (don't expect a bronze to make diamond level intelligent calls; don't expect a silver to make plat level intelligent calls) the person who made the outplays and better decisions shouldn't be getting wrecked. Certain champions are able to do this and it's just freaking stupid.

Ex: Half hp lvl 6 illaoi beats full hp lvl 6 renek despite renek dodging all original (and some after original) tentacle smashes during illaoi ult. Ex: Kha with 1/4hp tanks rumble ult, adc, mid, and support damage 1v4 and kills them all -- despite good use of zhonya by rumble and him being same lvl as kha and winning lane. Ex: jayce does 2/3 enemy top's hp with 1 combo pre-6 while negating enemy top's gap closer by knocking them away. Not all these scenario's have i experienced first hand. Some are thing's I've merely noticed watching high ranked players stream; others I have experienced. Regarless though, it is stupid how overstatted some champs are. Please look into some of this stuff and adjust so that champs require OUTPLAY and GOOD DECISION MAKING to win rather than winning purely by broken stats and abilities. As your company has stated before, a champ can be strong in 1 or 2 areas, but it shouldn't be better than another champ in ALL areas.

LPT: Don't melee into her. Play Quinn Vladimir Jayce Teemo etc and poke her out of lane.

yes... because when your team needs tank, the first thing I think of is... quinn and teemo. I play for what is best for my TEAM -- not just for my lane. And if you play correctly, you SHOULD have a reasonable chance of beating her. Ex: dodging all her ult tentacles on the first proc of them drastically reduces tentacles spawned. When you pull this off AND are starting the fight with same lvls, gold invested in appropriate items and a 1/4 hp lead, you should be able to win. Saying you shouldn't is like saying that jax should wreck quinn lvl 1 just because he lands a counter-strike stun on her.

The point is she is essentially a tankier, lower damage version of the jayce everyone complained about -- kinda a vlad from when everyone was sick of him. You design a top lane champ to be good at poking and kiting, good at tanking damage, and/or good at all-in duels. Illaoi is just too safe and good at all things compared to other tanks. And your suggestion is GREAT if you ignore your team needing a tank -- other than one small fact -- people pick illaoi INTO what you already picked. So... your suggestion is very situationally helpful info I already knew.
