Don't build him heavy AP, and don't try to go in on your own. Your job is to land snares so that Daisy and your teammates can jump in and do the damage. Daisy is very strong on her won, having 3500HP and 175AD at max level, but only has a 50% AP scaling on bonus health and 25% on AD. If you build a squishy AP path, you probably won't help out as much (unless you're going AP mid, which is risky but hilarious).

Get a rod of ages early, because you need both health and mana as flat stats. His passive doesn't use %values, so as long as you build up both of those stats, you won't have to worry about your passive costs. It also gives him a good bit of AP in the late game to help out with his shield to protect Daisy and friends.

Since you have a snare and a shield with a slow, you usually have enough opportunities to escape enemies if you can survive long enough. That's why he's best suited standing between your front line engage and your back line squishies. If Ivern is tanky enough, he can use Daisy as a front-line melee to disrupt, while he focuses on peeling and blocking for his ADC and mages.

If you go Rod of Ages with no other AP sources, and instead build full tank, then Daisy will have: > 3550 Health > 200 Attack Damage > 125 Armor and Magic Resist

Otherwise, if you manage to build 500AP and try to engage, Daisy will have: > 3750 Health > 300 Attack Damage > 145 Armor and Magic Resist > And will die as fast as you do

I am by no means a master of Ivern, and being in gold 4 places me pretty far below the elite players in LoL, but I've seen a lot of Ivern players building the wrong items because they don't understand his place in the game. Some of them just follow the recommended because they haven't thought about it. The fact that most players are running burst/assassin meta right now only makes it more helpful if you don't, and instead play a Tank Ivern. [slayer-jinx-catface]

P.S. I'll attach a graph I made of his passive resource usage, in case you didn't know: http://imgur.com/MM4Ch9F

I usually use a tanky build when I play Ivern and I find it pretty good. RoA + Protobelt + ZZ'Rot gives you a lot of durability and utility. You could also get a Locket if your support isn't getting one.

Also I recommend health regeneration or movement speed quints instead of the normal jungler runes. The only thing gating your ability to clear camps is health and movement speed, you don't need any combat stats to clear the jungle. You can also swap from your normal flat red/blue/yellows to per-level versions if you want but you'll probably get steamrolled if somebody comes to counterjungle you.

item 3158 item 1414 item 3152 item 3116 Then generally defense items of some kind. item 3026 or item 3512 every time then item 3190 item 3060 or some other MR item.

My win rate (and KDA) with Ivern are phenomenal right now. Shield spam, kiting with slowing autos from brush, good roots, and Daisy keep people off of you enough to get away with the build AND you still do decent damage. Not to mention your shields for allies or yourself are massive.
