So I had a Teemo vs Udyr One for All custom game yesterday (And another stupid idea)
http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2362646491/212142416?tab=overview
Needless to say, I got my ass handed to me royally (Did not like fighting AP Udyr, but I'm also unranked and I think my friends here were gold to plat on their mains. I've played with them before, it doesn't make matchmaking fun). The funny thing was that it was only until the end game where we lost all hope of winning because the last two udyr's bought
(The one I fought bought it early to make my laning power null and void. I then kinda just fed him because I couldn't get much damage going. Love that shield spam).
Now, ignoring my awful build and playing, I can understand why Teemo and Shaco mains hate
to no end. It not only makes an ability useless, it makes one of your core defining abilities flat out useless. Thank god it isn't in ARAM (though
is, granted it doesn't disable traps so you have awkward moments as melee when you go to destroy the shroom but end up detonating it).
But as someone who doesn't play Teemo, I dread the feeling of such a item that doesn't cancel these traps. Now I'm unranked so I am missing a lot of knowledge outside of my own interests (if you know me on the boards, you know my interests) so maybe what I dread isn't really that realistic. But anyway:
isn't up whenever I want it to be, so I can't use it to cancel traps willy nilly. Plus it doesn't last long so I can't disable a ton of traps, only a few. Grabbing it in lane (usually top) also cuts away my ward trinket, so I lose some vision.
So if this trinket didn't cancel traps, well there is nothing stopping Teemo from littering the lane with his traps in such a way that you'll always trigger them when escaping. Now granted, that's kinda what Teemo is meant to do: Turn the battlefield into his domain. He's a guerrilla warfare tactician. But where would the counterplay be? Sure I could see the traps, but that's like seeing a snake getting ready to strike, there is very little you can actually do.
The counterplay (more like counterbuilding) isn't fair to Teemo though. This is his ultimate, and as much as league has this funny thing about basic abilities completely negating ultimate (
and her damn wall against
ult), but to have your ultimate countered by a free item, well that doesn't seem fair.
Note: Bet you thought I was going to make a
wall comment huh? SHAME ON YOU!
So how do we fix this? Well for starters, we should remember that
as a champion is REALLY WEIRD. The most simple description I can give is that he's a ranged top laner. But there is so much more to Teemo.
Is he an ADC? No but I bet some people can make it work. Is he a mage? Full AP Teemo doesn't really scream mage. Is he a fighter? Yes if running around and kiting like a little arrogant fluffball instead of fighting with honor makes him a fighter. Is he a tank? No but he can be more annoying than a tank with the right build (Tankmo just loves to not die).
Teemo is weird. He's an old champion that is incredibly unique and showcases just how unique Riot can actually be even with limited technology. But because of how the game is changing (especially now that Riot has taken on a new approach to how stealth works) Teemo may need some changes as well in the future.
What I'm saying is that Teemo may need a rework. Don't worry, my clothes needed washing so I won't be all that bothered by the rotten tomato stains.
Personally, if I was to rework Teemo (and I'm not, thankfully) I'd make his shrooms have basically a single ward health bar so that they are immune to spell damage (which they already are) but are easy to remove with a single AA. I'd also increase their duration and his carrying capacity, lower the damage, increase the slow, and maybe have them provide vision like
.
Oh, and make it a basic ability. You heard right.
Having Teemo's ultimate be so easily countered is flat out ridiculous considering how essential these are to his identity. So having them as an ultimate just seems rather painful. Once you hit 6 you're like, "Yes, now I can make this battlefield my own personal garden of salt!" but then the enemy laner gets
and suddenly all that salt is yours.
I'd put these new shrooms on his E, make his old E a passive ability on his Q (so when his Q is on cooldown, his passive AA's don't deal magic damage. I know this will probably mess a lot of stuff up, but I'm not a Teemo main so I'm going to most likely make you all facepalm at my ideas). I'm not sure what I'd replace his ultimate with, maybe an ability that enhances the vision of all his shrooms, but also reveals them for the duration.
This doesn't tackle the
problem though. I'm not sure how to tackle that for another reason.
.
You see, if we just made
reveal traps but not disable them, we only give ranged champions more power. Shaco's boxes have this annoying tendency to go off before you can even hit them in melee. It's not fun, and if the counterplay to his boxes is suppose to be, "don't go to that area" well I kinda find that stupid since the counterplay to other forms of area abilities like
tentacles or
barrels is to destroy them before they can be utilized. There's also this annoying tidbit where I as
can't seem to knock the Shaco box back with my E when it is invisible, as though making it invisible makes it immune to my E.
Now some of you will say, "Shaco was gutted in the rework, why shouldn't we allow his boxes to not be disabled by
?". Well AD Shaco was certainly killed, but AP Shaco is alive and kicking and this boxes scale off of his AP. So if
didn't disable his traps, then all we'd have for it is to learn the location of his boxes. Since his box CD is lower than
, I don't really see how useful this information can be unless we can actually remove them. Which we couldn't do as melee if
couldn't disable them since they'd activate as soon as we got in range of the damn things.
I'm not sure how to tackle the
situation, but I feel that both
and
would need a more detailed look and better changes before we can find a solution. I just felt like giving a slight idea for a Teemo rework along with my observations.
Thank you for your time.
