What do people here want?

chipndip1··3 votes·1,404 views

Remember when AurelionSol came out and everyone got disappointed because his "big thing" was his orbiting passive and a useless gimmick on Q that no one really cared about since it's easy to kite back from?

Remember when Ivern was only used when he was broken as hell and now that he's brought in line, no one really gives a shit about him anymore?

You know how people like to praise shit like Ashe as "the good designs", but no one's out here actually playing Ashe?

Hell, we all know about how people champion "Simple designs", but somehow forget that Heimerdinger simple designs Fiddlesticks can be pretty fucking MasterYi toxic depending on Kayle the individual in question, right?

So riddle me this: Why is it that people are more concerned with not feeling like they got styled on more than they're worried about if something's actually well designed or not? If something's fun and cool to play in the game or not? Everyone's worried about how big and flashy they think the other guy's tool is instead of worrying about their own tools and what they bring to the table, or their own game play in their own sub-class and role. People say shit like "The strategic elements are gone" and then entirely forgo any strategic planning in the drafting or building of their champions, like it's Riot's fault people regularly play this game like a bunch of morons in solo queue. People point at others being op for being flashy or making pro play appearances while maining some of the highest win rate champions in their lanes like Jax and Ahri. When does the fuckery get checked in this community for once?

Like, people complain about champions having too many dashes or champions being op on release, but Nunu comes along, who's tons of fun if you ask me, and people don't play him that much across all elos even though he doesn't have any mobility and his cc as a tank isn't "tons and tons of hard cc looped together". People blame the LCS for making champions worse and shit, but they forget that the LCS shines a light on the potential these champions have and actually help boost the popularity of champions. How long was Aatrox complained about for being bland and useless? YEARS. Riot finally delivers on his thematic as a massive war god that leads the charge into the enemy with earth-crushing sword swings, his popularity his healthy, his game play is fleshed out with more skill checks, and people somehow keep coming on here complaining about how "Aatrox is ruined" because he got 2 weeks in the LCS to abuse Rageblade. I don't fucking understand...at all.

Like, how do you move forward when there's always something wrong? Could you imagine trying to make a meal for someone and every dang time you bring the plate to the table, something is wrong? Regardless of how trivial or nonsensical it is, just SOMETHING? "The flavor is too sweet". "Now it's too bitter". "The plate is blue. That isn't good". "I wanted a wine". "I meant a red wine". "Didn't I say white wine?". "Why are you giving me this pussy shit when I wanted a scotch?" "You should have put shrimp in this, or to the very least given me a red wine". "You know eating shellfish is a sin in the bible, right?" That's basically the game play boards. You guys complain about the fun not being there or whatever, but a lot of that is due to yourselves actively forgoing the notion that the fun in a hardcore game is the struggle to WIN the game, not to complain until the game's owners make it piss easy for you to win. Instead of focusing on your experience and the enjoyment you could have, you pinpoint a thing and just zero in on how much that one individual aspect bugs you, even when there are answers to that thing in the game laid out for anyone to use. How are you gonna enjoy League that way, let alone overcome these things that bug you?

And don't give me that "It's different people" shtick. Whenever you guys largely feel the same on a topic (Dynamic Queue, Firing CT, Firing the balance team, Firing Ghostcrawler, deleting Yasuo, bashing Riot), you can see it in what types of posts regularly make front page and regularly get mass upvoted. You guys have SOME degree of unity, but you use it in the worst ways possible.

But lemme make this thread clear: I'm not against having complaints on the boards. Complaining like a bunch of babies is one way for Riot to notice us faster, and it's done some good for us (like Riot lowering burst damage and introducing customizable pre-game stats in season 9). I'm saying there needs to be a sense of responsibility in the community when it comes to more baseless, salt-spurred claims about the game state, and that the game could benefit from people shifting their framing of League a bit. I know I come off as aggressive on these boards, but if you want me to clarify a point of mine that you don't agree with or something, just ask. Not just this thread, but any thread you see me posting in. I'll be happy to usually.

I just want to have the game in a state at which nothing can snowball out of control in such a manner that champions only need to use half of ther kit to just kill anything. Where one mistake on botlane, does not cost you the turret. A game where one cc does not instantly kills you.

  1. That's just League of Legends.

  2. You really just want someone to be a tank. Upfront damage isn't as bad when the type of champ that's meant to take that damage actually exists on the map.

Where one mistake on botlane, does not cost you the turret.

One mistake doesn't usually cost me a whole turret in bot lane, and I have thousands upon thousands of bot lane matches. It CAN sometimes depending on what's going on, but usually...no.

A game where one cc does not instantly kills you.

Tanks. Solo queue doesn't have many, but they're required for a healthy game meta. The issue is who's gonna be the guy to play them? No one wants to.

Lookint it like this, the flaw of the game is Solo/DuoQ itself, since this is where the concept of snowballng actually works. Either because of the lack of tanks or because of the lack of communication that causes champions like Zed to roam unspotted and go 3/0 at 8 minutes.

I have seen countless of times that botlane dies and immidiatly loose the turret. It dosen't evne have to be soley their mistake. Getting sorrounded 4v2 without any reaction from your own mid and jungler can easily end with a first turret blood at 7 minutes. But once again. That is solo/duoQ, so maybe the mode itself is the flaw and not the balancing.

That's why Riot wants to someday introduce Clash if they'd stop fucking up introducing Clash.

Yeah, those are times where that happens, but thankfully that doesn't always happen.

If that's all the strategy we get then who can blame people for saying this? You're missing the point on this one. The game severely lacks strategy. Or let me correct myself: The game HAS strategy but it doesn't fucking matter.

What is the 4 dragon and 5 tower advantage gonna matter when you're dead in the matter of a second anyway? The game right now has 1 viable "strategy". Get fed early, brute force the win.

Literally wtf?

Your champ choice and what you choose to build plays a BIG difference in the outcome of the game. Strategy doesn't boil down to your play. It's strategy. Elements of the game that you think about and execute beforehand matter just as much as your ability to quickly think up a potential play to swing the match flow. If this is your opinion on those elements, no wonder you're so dissatisfied with the game.

If you're playing a game like Street Fighter, for example, and someone's CONSTANTLY using jumping attacks to get the better of you, you can keep at it and figure it out with your current character...or you can just switch to Guile, who has one of the strongest anti-air attacks in the series. The choice is yours to make, but you can't blame them for taking advantage of you if you choose to not take advantage of tools to help you win. That's on you.

If you have that much advantage you should be the one winning the game...

That aside, you can build a team comp to scale carries and peel them when they're under fire. Solo queue doesn't do that, though. It's not that it isn't viable. It's that solo queue play values hard carrying over coordination and teamwork, and that reflects in the match experience. You can't talk about "Man I wish I could come back" or "Jeeze I wish I could do something about get trounced by their snowball" when people hate playing the champs that are meant to deal with these things and would rather play assassins and carries.

You didn't even take a second to think about my post if THIS is your answer.

Yes, champion picks and teamcomp are and always were a part of strategy. Right now and for the past 1.5-2 seasons it is the ONLY strategic element in the game. It's a dumb side effect of buffing damage over and over again.

And this is why people are dissatisfied. Macro play has been nerfed so much that killing the enemy and taking a tower is called strategy. You don't get to win a game on a better macro if the enemy just deathballs you a single time.

"Shit they got a 3 dragon advantage" turned from a sign of approaching doom into a sarcastic statement. Towers mean nothing cause an ace at minute 30 loses you 2-3 towers already.

Yes, teamcomp is strategy but stop ignoring the elephant in the room. Riot has taken out the majority of strategy for everybody other than mid diamond+.

Wrong.

Champion picks, overall team comps, itemization, jg gank pathing and priority, support roaming, prioritizing dragon/herald/baron/turrets, fighting in lanes or in the jg/river, how you pressure side lanes, how you group for large scale fights...there's A LOT of potential levers for strategy if you bother to utilize them. Solo queue is not an environment where these things are utilized properly and THAT is the problem people have, not that they don't exist.

And this is why people are dissatisfied. Macro play has been nerfed so much that killing the enemy and taking a tower is called strategy. You don't get to win a game on a better macro if the enemy just deathballs you a single time.

Nothing about macro play has been nerfed except TP. Hell, with Demolish and Rift Herald in the game, it's been buffed.

Well, Banner got removed and ZZ got nerfed, but those were pretty fucking cheese in their hay day so...

"Shit they got a 3 dragon advantage" turned from a sign of approaching doom into a sarcastic statement. Towers mean nothing cause an ace at minute 30 loses you 2-3 towers already.

That's just fucking League of Legends. The longer the game goes, the more you lose when you get fucking aced. Getting aced is the biggest fuck up possible in this game, save an ace where the enemy has even more of their side alive. How long SHOULD your objectives last when you guys fuck up that hard 30 minutes into the game? Think.

Yes, teamcomp is strategy but stop ignoring the elephant in the room. Riot has taken out the majority of strategy for everybody other than mid diamond+.

So people that are low elo don't know how to play the strategic game right and that's who's fault, again?

Everything here after “itemization” falls under what a jungler does (but other roles do some of them too). Just wanted to point that out as an oddity. Maybe I should switch to jungling in Solo Queue after learning a few carries for the role, and how to path for early ganks (my biggest shortcoming in the role). Or I could just prioritize these things despite not being the jungler, planning out how I want the lane phase to go in regards to trading and roams.

Also, I love the post. It’s everything I have always wanted to tell myself when it comes to League, and I have been rather successful at doing so in the last few months. Strategy is hardly in the toilet, but it may seem that way from time to time - everyone has bad games from time to time. The trick is minimizing the impact through smart play.

Well, not EVERYTHING, but you get more control of them as a jungler than as one of the laners, and that's part of why the game feels like it lives or dies by a good jungler. Their role is incredibly important in swaying the neutral games that exist all over the map. Riot wanted to decrease their significance in this regard, but I don't think that worked.

I'm glad I helped. Also, trust me when I say I'm not perfect, either. There are times where I'm...not so graceful, myself. This is a version of me when I'm not completely drenched in salt so I can think clearly enough to say these things after a more objective look at the game and the community.
