Whoever did the math on this is wrong. The math itself is right. BUT,
is now 4800
AND
is now 6300.
This takes 3000 ip from the total, which accounts for the +8% that everyone is throwing around.
The actual IP avg gained from a 1700 shard is only 1691 (wp Rito)...actually a .5% loss.
EDIT: NVM....i didn't take into account the essence you get from sub 6300 champ chests.

I'm still debating what I want to do with My champ shards.
Prior to this conversion. I actually didn't mind the "Bad Shards" because it was a compromise of Some Essence, and a shard I could use to reroll champs. But since Riot is planing to retire the rerolling aspect, it seems to be a bit of a risk if I get a random champ shard a rolled low.
And there's another aspect that no one has talked about yet. What's going to happen to the "Upgrade to permanent" Cost? If we're combining IP with Blue essence. Should I hold on to the champ shards of champs I still don't own? Should I buy more shards and hope I get champs I don't own?

(8713) + (19522) + (26324) + (29347) + (325*32)
= 1131 + 4290 + 6312 + 13711 + 10400
= 35844
35844/138 (champs) = 260
260*6.5 = 1690
If you add 3000 back in for the Zyra and Ornn, you get 38844/138 = 281.4 *6.5 = 1829
1829/1700 = 1.0758 (there's your 8%)

Don't forget that you sometimes get blue essence+champ shard for your 1700 champ token, so theres some bonus stuff sprinkled on top of the expected returns solely on champ shards.
(Although I personally don't have a stockpile of ip to 'convert' in this manner, as I've been rerolling them 3 into perms as I just have 6300 ip champs left, so haven't bothered to independently do the math.)

Snow Day Kled1 votes7.5% gain on 15 champs shards here. Don't forget, alot of the lower shard values also come with bonus BE. Usually not enough to overcome the low value, but it helps.
If you like to gamble, go for it! I would definitely say try your luck if you can afford lots of champs shards because you are statistically very likely to gain some BE.
