It was just normals, but what the actual hell? Matchmaking MMR pls?

They were probably duoqueued with someone else.

Happened recently to me and my friends, it was a diamond on our team (pretty close) - we also had a plat. VS silvers. And we lost.

Normals mmr and ranked mmr are different.

Many rather high ranked players have low normals mmr since they almost exclusively play ranked, and many relatively low ranked people have somewhat high normal mmrs since they play their mains in normals.
