support itemization is a mess and so much more limited than before

before the support item changes,

a soraka could build any of these items depending on her situation item 3504 item 3190 item 3060 item 3222 item 3512 item 3050

but now every game she has to build this exact build or be useless item 2049 item 3158 item 3069 item 3107 item 3190 [situational defensive item]

there's really no freedom to build freely without being a burden to your team. item 3107 you know who buys this? Leona TahmKench Blitzcrank Nautilus Thresh. they do too. is it intended for them? no. do they have any synnergy with it? maybe a sliver of synnergy. nerf this. item 3174 needs to be reworked in order to be strong without breaking Ivern Sona item 3504 is good for some supports, but punishing to build before locket or redemption item 3190 item 3060 need their stats switched. seriously, banner gives more armor than magic resist, giving you insentive to build it against heavy ad teams. but the buffed minion gives immunity to magic damage, it's a confused identity and punishes you for building it for its stats, or for the active. either way one of them is going to be useless. also, locket was ALWAYS mandatory on most supports. i don't know if it should be nerfed or not because it has always held the crown of being the defining support item which some tanks could pick up in certain situations item 3222 is just bad. it's a worse version of item 3140. it used to have a heal but it was nerfed for no reason, now it's garbage. item 2302 item 2303 are complete garbage because it currently punishes you for building them because it competes with item 3069 item 3401 + item 2045. and considering all the meta support items are ones with powerful actives with lengthy cooldowns, it's easy to see that neither of them are worth it. the only reason item 2301 is fine is because those who build it, Malzahar Zyra Brand etc don't build the active items which item 2045 lowers the cd for item 3109 is alright, but it is just weak in comparison to locket redemption combo and is a last buy on everyone it was intended for now that tank supports like leona are buying redemption item 3050 passive needs a complete rework. its absolutely garbage. perhaps rework it to be an offensive version of item 3109 like it's supposed to be instead of a simply terrible buff which is mostly wasted stats and never goes off when you want it to? item 3512 used to be a cool item to build on any tank support or as a situational item on what we now consider redemption supports (even though everyone does). now there's no way for a support to pressure the map without intentionally building weak punishing items like item 3060 item 3056 ...

Blitzcrank Nautilus Thresh TahmKench all benefit from having a 10% stronger shield. Kench benefits from having 10% stronger heals too, as his E's self healing from gray health is amplified. All 4 of them enjoy the CDR, HP, Regen, and Mana Regen as well, so don't say this item is lost on them. Those stats are completely universal (except for non-Mana users), so anyone with any degree of shielding or healing can greatly benefit from the item.

do they have any synnergy with it? maybe a sliver of synnergy.

Having every aspect of the item be useful to you is not a "sliver of synergy."

im hard pressed to believe half the people on this thread are trolling

hmu when you play any of those champions for their synnergy with the healing items not including spirit visage

Well, on the Soraka example, you could build item 2302 in a lot of situations.

If you are against a Morgana, for example, you can build that to free up an item slot for item 3222

Against a siege comp, you could buy it so you have space for item 3083, which is actually pretty damn good in late game sieges if you hit 3k HP with your other items (if not, scaling HP runes aren't half bad).

I cant think of a game where I don't hit 3k life so I always get it for soraka

Why buy so much health? Her heal takes 10% of her health to heal someone so no matter how much health you build your still losing the same portion of your Health Bar. Wouldn't AP be better for more effective heals so you don't have to heal as much and heal for more of your Health Bar on hit Q's?

HP is good on Soraka for two reasons.

  1. Any intelligent team with focus Soraka (good luck killing anyone else while she is alive). As such, tank stats are desirable.

  2. Warmogs gives such insane HP regen that it basically negates Sorakas health costs. Warmogs requires 3000 HP to be effective, though, so you need to precede a Warmogs purchase with some other HP items.

that is the actually reason to a tee.....the enemy team focuses on me almost all the team fights....so if I can stay alive longer to heal the others they can finish them before they finish me.....that and the regen is a nice kick in the craw for them so I can focus on a little mana regen

my man depending on your adc, zekes is a must, redemtpion is a must and mikahils is a must. and if you want to build ardent censor. ardent censor may get buffed. But i do the same thing on taric becuase being a shield and heal bot is funny while making all your heals do like 40% bonus if you take windskeepers. But tbh janna would be a better person for you to play as becuase you gain shields and heals. always get ruby ss,

supports have always rushed to build the strongest items available to them because of their low gold income which pushes the weaker or situational items down the buy list. zekes used to be a late buy on a lot of supports for this reason, and it was less punishing to do so because the 50% crit zekes gives could often be utilized by the arpen adcs that were popular. now zekes isnt purchased at all because of now even if you buy it as a late buy, every adc is running 80% crit, which wastes 30% of the bonus crit the buff grants.

but with the new locket and redemption, the rush must buys are now the weaker items, leaving zekes in the dirt with not only no niche to fill, but with nobody actually wanting to purchase it because of its annoying mechanics and borderline useless buff

its not a must buy, it's a no buy

as for crucible? they removed the heal and it doesn't even remove suppressions. it's not worth picking up when there are so much better items

khorney1 votes

mikhails is for the passives. 20% healing and shield bonus, and regen. zekes is a must buy on jhin ashe and graves. why becuase they dont have a crit limit they just do more base damage by how much crit they have. so early game is bette rthen late game

resumed1 votes

buying zekes early puts you behind, you have to buy redemption and locket before it or else you suffer

mikael's crucible also shares its healing and shielding bonuses with other items, like redemption, which you buy first.

i knwo how it works. if jhin graves or ashe are ur adc rush zekes. becuase it raises there damge output by a lot. since the more crit they have the more base damage they do.

Honestly, Riot is constantly trying too hard in creating Support item. By that I mean making these extreme actives that tack unto other actives and etc. Like what other role in the game has to go "Can't buy that, I can't possibly manage all those abilities in a fight" (Seriously, I'm sick of having to manage Redemption, Locket and Face all at once). They're also hoping that by making these unique active items with crappy stats (Regen stats ftw ya?), they'll keep other roles off of those.

Seriously, just make the final items relatively weak with support-related passives compared to bigger items. No one, (that is, assuming they severely change the current must buy stuff) are gonna buy a 50 AP item with 10% CDR and, I dunno, a mini Raka passive (just an example) when Morello exists. Supports on the other hand will gladly pick that up, especially if it's cheap enough that they can get it a bit before laning phase ends and win a fight off it. I'm personally a big fan of Athene, as it seems to be the closest item to this idealogy.

I'm getting sick of buying the same items every game as support. I want support items that reduce the damage I take after damaging an enemy. Items that temporarily boost my damage after healing/shielding/buffing an ally. Items that slightly heal me when CCing an enemy. And all of those items should have stats other than a mix of health regen, mana regen and one random stat. I want to show up to lane and go "Alright, do they have pressure? No? Alright let's rush this and zone them off" or "Crap, I got counterpicked. I should buy this item if we wanna stand a chance in fights". Instead we have "Is this Summoner's Rift? Yes? Alright Sighstone, Boots Redemption it is." That's why no one wants to play support, as well as the main reason people play mages who, while having their own core items, actually have options after them : "Do I want more damage or do I actually get support items now?"

Rather than nerfing item 3107 the only good support item how about buffing other items. stats boots perferably

resumed1 votes

the problem there is that tank itemization will still be poor enough for tank supports to build it and be successful with it

until we get new items for tank supports (which we still need) to be able to compete, a buffed knights vow would not be enough as locket and redemption synergize too well

edit: another idea is that its damage could scale with its healing

LordGeovanni1 votes

tank itemization needs to be buffed across the game item 3143 80 armor and 600 hp was the thing in the day and its icon was better too this one is brighter but i cant tell what the fuck it is
