can we make it so ekko can't blink while rooted?

resumed··157 votes·5,363 views

this might be controversial but ekko shouldn't be rewarded with a billion fucking damage onto whoever he wants for phase diving directly into morgana's dark binding

like i feel that if i see the root animation, have time to combo whatever spells, AND have time to start walking away, i shouldn't have to see ekko just blink and have half of the cc duration wasted because for some reason being bolted to the floor doesn't actually bolt someone to the floor

also, if i predict ekko's phase dive, shouldn't i be rewarded for interrupting such an important ability?

this also happens with Zyra and probably Lux

Hey man, everyone needs to blink, we don't want our eyes to dry out.

:P

XeroKimo9 votes

Well the thing with that is there's a very short casting time with ekko's E blink, like ezreal's E, that's why if you hit a binding or flashed out of range during that time, ekko will still follow you

Wimbledofy1 votes

yes this, it has nothing to do with ekko. It has to do with the way abilities work in league, same reason why riven can dash and get silenced at the same time when im playing cho'gath.

Zerenza1 votes

Well it does seem like a glitch, it most likely has to do with his E's Blink activating from an AA. With kassadin if you bind him, he can't blink and with other champions like Katarina and Talon, they can't blink. It's most likely an over looked interaction between ekko's blink and specific CC.

XeroKimo1 votes

Well there's a difference there, Katarina and Talon's blink are both instant, no short cast time/animation, basically it goes like this for ekko/ezreal/kassadin, whenever they blink and get hit by any hard cc, they've already activated the skill before it landed.

As for what wimble said about chogath silencing Riven with dash at the same time, I'm pretty sure cho gath's W actually has a short cast time as well, it's not something instant like Talon's old E

Ekko has a lot of strange interactions as a champion that I feel don't really make sense compared with other champs. For example Teemo's blind which normally causes empowered auto attacks to miss, does not apply to Ekko's phase dive. I hope that next year Riot will take a patch dedicated to tightening game clarity because as things stand now, there are too many "exceptions" to core gameplay mechanics that make little to no sense which honestly just make the game so much more confusing and give a sense that some mechanics aren't fair to players. For example, with Teemo if I blind Garen as he uses his empowered dash-hit (sorry I have never played Garen so idk what it is called) and it prevents the damage from going through, then I as a player feel rather cheated when Ekko gets to deal damage to me regardless of the fact that he is currently under my blind.

Zerenza1 votes

An empowered AA is something like Kled's W or most of Jax's ability's. Or even Riven's Passive.

Ekko,Vi,Vayne,Braum and Gnar have passives that apply extra damage after a certain number of AA's or Ability uses. This simply means that your taking damage from Ekko's Passive not from his Auto Attack, in addition the Passive will still apply but the initial damage from his Auto will not go through, as it shouldn't.

Another way to explain it is simply that their passives apply on YOU and do not empower THEM. So the third hit's of Ekko,Vi and Vayne will still apply their damage but the Auto Attack itself will not.

This actually works as intended, hope this helps :)

maikokk4 votes

the problem is the way it is phrased. these passives require you to "hit" a target. when a blind prevents an AA from landing, it didnt "hit" anything

ekko is an explicit exception because the ability is qualified as a spell and an autoattack in one ability unlike toons like ez, MF, evelyn, and GP who have abilities that only apply attack modifiers

Hmm... :/ That still doesn't make sense though because if Vayne has 2 of her 3 silver bolt stacks on you and you blind her, then her next auto attack against will NOT pop the silver bolts passive damage. Which is why I say that Ekko's auto attack still dealing damage makes no sense. Also in death recap afterwards it shows that you take damage from both the auto and his passive.

Zerenza1 votes

I tested it and it still works, spell effects still proc even if the Auto Attack misses. This was posted many year's ago as an intended interaction, which means not only can vayne and ekko still apply their stacks, they can also proc them even if the initial Auto damage does not go through. Blinds cannot block spell effects just auto attacks and on-hit effects, Ekko and Vayne's Passives are not counted as on-hit effects in the games coding..

As another example, Cho'gaths E will still work even though it's an auto attack, you will still take damage from the spell effect of his E. These are all working as intended.

Well imo, that is just stupid. Blind gets countered by so many random things it barely has a use anymore and it's mega annoying and unclear to learn what it does and does not work against.

J4 does the same thing, its intended

TyrekGoldenspear11 votes

Well it makes sense with J4, hes so manly he can drag himself through CC.

Ekko just isnt manly enough for that to be justified.

Jarvan was stated to do that intentionally, Ekko wasn't.

i hate ekko but also hate even more lux and anything that makes her even more opressive to even ekko is unncceptable XD so downvoted

I mean tristana's w does the same thing that ekko's e does its just apart of the game (and dont go on telling me how tristana doesnt do what ekko does it doesnt matter you arnt talking about the dmg your talking about the blink while rooted)

blink =/= dash

if u want to target blinks, kassadin who's ult is a blink cant be used while rooted

Tristana can't W out of a root. Once she actually starts she can't be stopped, though.

Lux isn't oppressive. She has clear and exploitable weaknesses stemming from how squishy she is and her complete lack of mobility.

On the other hand Ekko is a disgusting champion who should have never been allowed to exist within LoL. He lacks clear weaknesses and is generally just an atrocious example of overwhelmingly poor design.

Lovelle12 votes

Twisted Fate is squishy. Lux has an AP scaling shield, on top of her massive range. I've seen champions jump on her, only to be Q'd and ulted, or Zhonya's active into Q and ult. Her shield makes her deceptively hard to kill. In teamfights, most champs have to ovetextend in order to kill her, often leading to their death. There isn't much in the game that can compete with her range.

I ban her when I get the chance. Would honestly deal with both Ekko and Yasuo than her.

Voluug1310 votes

An AP scaling shield with mediocre scaling and decent bases that she maxes last. Truly OP.

An Undead brat2 votes

Did anyone say OP? ._. Not talking about the fact that her shield is making a character that's only weak when mispositioned (so when SHE fucks up, you can't affect this) fairly tanky (in comparsion to other similar characters) and it's REALLY frustrating when you can't burst her down in the short frame before she slows you, that means practically certain root and BOOM you're dead. Do I sound like an assassin main? No, check my name, I main a certain mage which is fairly similar to Lux. Only if maybe Lux's player had this opinion it could be more accurate.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

she was borderline lane before she was nerfed a while ago. The combination of her range, damage, CC, and shield made it really obnoxious to fight her in lane and team fights. Just trying to close the distance on her before used to be very difficult. Then you had to hope you were able to kill her through her shield and damage. Very likely being chunked before you actually reached her as well. Also thunder lords can be proc by her just using one spell and auto I believe pretty busted.

bony whimsark4 votes

ok lol (clearly u played a champ lux thrives against)

Vistha Kai5 votes

Don't act dumb. There was a time, when Lux had literally* ZERO losing matchups.

######* - I used that word with respect to its true meaning.

Maximum Morde1 votes

Lux has never had a winning matchup against Morgana, ever.

Vistha Kai1 votes

I'm pretty sure back when Lux had 56% winrate, not even Morgana was safe.

PS. I used words "zero losing matchups", not "winning every matchup". Just pointing that out. May be important or something.

Maximum Morde1 votes

At her very best, Lux could have a losing stalemate lane where she will eventually be pushed out vs Morgana. At that point it comes down to team comps because Morgana can throw a huge wrench in Lux's team fight contribution. Lux could never defeat Morgana on her own merits, period.

Lux only did so well because Morgana's Mid pick rate was(and still is) too abysmal to keep her in check.

Mazariamonti1 votes

"Lux only did so well because Morgana's Mid pick rate was(and still is) too abysmal to keep her in check"

Lol and I've been reaping those benefits. Although due to the DoT nature of her soil you are pretty much at the mercy of your team when it comes to how much farm you'll get (usually not very much)

And Lux was superior in lane against Morgana when the mastery changes first came out. Now...not so much.

Maximum Morde1 votes

Nah, even when Masteries first came out, Morgana outlasted lux in lane, pushed harder, and had much higher kill threat.

Mazariamonti1 votes

Idk I played that matchup as the Morgana quite a few times. Lux pushed faster and had significantly more kill pressure basically until they nerfed thunderlord's. The only advantage Morgana has is the shield but that can be mitigated rather easily if the lux throws out the aoe for the slow, then the snare, then pops the aoe burst when the shield comes up to block the cc. She can also completely mitigate damage she takes from the soil with her shield.

Also, people really overstate the waveclear of Morgana. Lux has cheaper and more reliable waveclear than Morgana does and it isn't even really close. Morgana's soil is her only waveclear and if you aren't getting blues consistently you'll be up against your turret last hitting to conserve mana, or you'll be pushed up and hovering around 200 mana. Neither is ideal.

Maximum Morde2 votes

Nah, Lux has bigger mana problems than Morg. Their waveclear costs the same mana but post rank 3 with some AP, Morg one spell clears while Lux can't unless she's super fed. Morg also has higher base stats.

Basically, if you can't outpush, out trade, and out last Lux with Morg, it isn't the champion, you are just up against a Lux who is playing better than you.

Zerenza2 votes

I'm gonna help you here, if you have trouble with ekko, play these champions.

Annie(i fucking hate this matchup), Lux, Malzahar, Zyra, Fizz and Vlad.

In almost every game i'v fought those champions with ekko, i'v lost, it's extremely difficult for him and it's easy to punish him. Most especially Annie, she just hurts so much.

LankPants1 votes

What top laners should I pick into him though? There aren't any other than maybe cancer tank Yasou who actually beat cancer tank Ekko.

ForeverLaxx1 votes

Champions are not locked to a lane, except for maybe Mordekaiser since Riot wanted him to be babysat and -changed- ruined his kit to support it.

LankPants1 votes

There are reasons why you should play certain champs in certain lanes. Picking Zyra, Malz or Lux top is a terrible idea as they completely lack any methods to deal with retreating to tower in the longer lane.

Vlad and Fizz do not beat cancer tank Ekko, Vlad doesn't beat Ekko in general and Fizz only beats Ekko when he can burst him. Tank Ekko is one of the least burstable champs in the game right now.

ForeverLaxx1 votes

Better stop playing Darius top, then, as he has no way to escape to the tower.

Killstrado1 votes

Malz top is more cancer than tank yas or tank ekko lol try it before you speak

LankPants1 votes

Malz top is food for any competent jungler.

Killstrado1 votes

You're so one sided it's ridiculous. Do you even know what malz can do??? Lmfao If malz top is food for any competent jungler so is malz mid....same champ same interaction from an enemy ganks. We are also talking about the SOLO TOP LANE not how any champ top will do if he gets a gank. Don't comment on something you're just speculating because you're one of the few people that still have trouble with tank ekko and yas.....btw ekko has been nerfed twice since that became a problem so the rest is on you as a player.

singed works out decently enough, you can just sort of ignore him and farm minions and if he tries to stun you toss his azz out
