So since Riot is handing out reverts...
Can Shen get reverted as well?
Shen is currently sitting at a 48% win rate in both Top and Support according to Champion.gg.
(Source: http://champion.gg/statistics/ )
His quote on quote "new" kit feels rather lackluster and clunky and has some very irritating limitations:
-
His Ki Barrier is primarily meant for trades in the early game considering it has a static cooldown of 10 seconds that cannot be reduced. However since most of the trades with Shen consist of him using his E Q and then W, you're forcing the enemy to basic attack you and then blocking the basic attacks with W meaning the shield on Ki Barrier is completely useless. The shield itself is also rather weak, only having a base amount of 50 at level 1 to 101 at level 18.
-
The base damage on Q feels rather weak and Shen has to hit an enemy with it in order to deal any meaningful damage.
-
His W area of effect is extremely small and actually using it to defend your teammates almost never happens. It's also only useful against auto attack heavy comps so good luck against a team with 2 or more casters.
-
Actually using his E to engage in a teamfight almost means certain death. You don't deal enough damage with your Q to kill the target you engaged on and once your W runs out, you're basically a sitting duck. And since the cooldown on it is so high, you can't even use it to escape with.
-
His ultimate is just pure garbage. In the current meta we are in, the most viable champions are the ones that can deal the most amount of damage in the shortest time frame possible without dying in the process. The time it takes for the channel to finish plus the extremely small base shield amount on the ult means the ally you are trying to help will most likely die before you get there, and if they don't, they'll die once you show up and you'll probably just die with them. And don't bullshit me with "oh just wait until they're low health before ulting the shield gets bigger if you do". If they're already at 40% hp, the shield won't save them. And don't even get me started on the extra shield damage Irelia (cough cough fucking broken cough cough) has.
So let's recap:
-
Completely useless passive. You'll probably only proc it once, maybe twice if you're lucky, in a teamfight.
-
Mediocre damage on Q unless he hits the target with it.
-
One of the few champions where an abilities' usefulness is decided based on the enemy team comp (W). If you're up against a mage comp, you're basically a champion with only 3 abilities whilst everyone else has 4.
-
A dash that's basically a "just go ahead and fuck me up fam" to the enemy team.
-
Useless ult in the meta we are in.
-
Loses lane to almost everyone. Especially if they enemy laner is ranged or has cc.
-
Cooldowns are way too long and it can take up to 20 seconds between trades.
-
Passive shield and E damage scales with health, inciting you to stack health but since
everyone
has
percentage maximum health damage nowadays, building health just makes them deal more damage to you. -
His Q and his Ultimate scales with AP. That's fucking terrible. If you look at Probuilds.net literally none of the pros actually build AP on Shen. Ever. (Source: http://www.probuilds.net/champions/details/Shen )
So instead I propose a revert (keeping the updated visuals added in the rework, of course).
Ki Strike felt like a much better trading tool than what Shen has now. It had a long cooldown, but atleast you actually had ways of reducing the cooldown.
Vorpal Blade actually provided Shen with a poking tool if he was up against a ranged top laner. It dealt good damage and it also gave heals, meaning Spirit Visage would actually be a purposeful buy on him, and it would also actually make Shen support viable.
Feint was an amazing ability. It was really easy and simple, it worked against both auto attack heavy enemy team comps, and spell heavy enemy team comps, and it wasn't clunky and gimmicky like Spirit's Refuge is.
The damage reduction on Shadow Dash actually meant you wouldn't get blown up instantly when you used it to engage.
His Ultimate had a flat amount of shields it gave to the target, rather than being gated based on the target's missing health.
How this could work with the visuals added in the rework:
Passive animation = same animation as the last strike from Twilight Assault. Shen uses his Spirit Blade instead of his regular steel saber. This would explain why it does extra magic damage.
Q animation = throws the Spirit Blade out in the same fashion as when the Spirit Blade returns to his position when he activates Twilight Assault.
W animation = same animation as Ki Barrier.
E animation = stays the same.
Ult animation = stays the same.
But this is just my opinion though.
