Can a Rioter tell me what the Tahm changes even trying to accomplish?

So the good points first.

  1. You now have extra damage before level 6

  2. You no longer need to waste putting points in his R

  3. Your E shield no longer decays

  4. Your E has a shorter cooldown

  5. Ultimate transports you half a second faster

  6. Ultimate indicator for enemies shows up half a second later

Now the bad.

  1. You now do less damage after level 5

  2. You now need to stack your passive in order to make the damage worthwhile

  3. His passive now no longer works on minions

  4. Because it needs to stack, if you eat an enemy champion then you'll lose all that damage because you'll have to reapply your stacks

  5. Your W now no longer applies your passive

  6. Your W now no longer applies the damage from your passive (that was previously on your ult)

  7. Your E shields for less damage

  8. Your E heals for less damage

  9. Your E shield now lasts 3 seconds less

  10. Ultimate channel duration lowered

What's even the point? It nerfs his E, his damage, and makes it so you don't need to waste time putting points in your R. If you want to turn him into a W bot then at least give him back the movespeed when eating an ally.

I don't have input about the other stuff but I thought the decaying shield mechanic was kinda good. If the shield doesn't decay and just suddenly drops off Tahm's enemies have a situation where it becomes bad feeling to hit a non decaying shield for no reason if it's big enough. With a short 3 second no decay shield enemies will be strongly encouraged to entirely hold their burst to pop him right after; they get this weird it's better to not attack at all situation whereas before if enough dps was there the shield delayed death but the enemies are ok with beating on it.

And now that the shield is only 3 seconds now I am pretty sure it is shit for Tahm.

Maybe it is supposed to be a top lane 1v1 nerf so they can make him stronger overall though. But it doesn't look like that..? (not rly the point of my post)

I mean, I guess they made it so support Tahm can put more points into his other abilities since his ult is worthless if you're not duoing with someone, then again they also made it so his E is weaker so even though you get to put points into it sooner it's just making up for lost ground from the current version.

It gives them room to buff/nerf him without making him OP or completely unviable.

But all of this is a straight nerf, the E cd buff doesn't matter because you want to save the shield for when you get the most value out of it or not use it at all so you can regen health.

The passive change requires him to stack his passive on someone to get the maximum damage but once you get max stacks you're going to Q stun them, hit them once or twice and then eat them and then lose all the stacks. It gives him a little more damage early (About 10 more magic damage if he hasn't bought any health items by level 6) but that's only at max stacks and once you start getting items it's a straight nerf thanks to the stacking requirement.

And the ult change makes him more binary because now you don't need to put points into his ult and unless you're duoing with someone all his ult is is a way to get back to lane faster.

Yeah. But they're going to giving him more changes other than that. But it's mostly a change to allow for better balancing on Tahm. We're going to see compensation, probably in the form of AP scalings or base damage, of some sort for it. The Rioters confirmed that.

There are certainly more changes coming, as they said they are going to beef him up later. They just had to make his e and ult passive into a spot that is easier to balance even of that means nerfing them

And where did you see them say this?

It also says that these are all of his changes.

They probably think he's not flashy enough, so they're trying to gut him
