God damn, it's nice to see a thread about Ghostcrawler that isn't some autist whining about how he ruined everything about LoL and WoW and incidentally raped their cat and their mother and their mother's cat and did you hear he's Bronze 5?

could you not include autism in it? getting tired of people insulting people by calling them autistic and it's insulting to me as someone who does have autism, whining has absolutely nothing to do with autism

Irelia Bot2 votes

Really depends on the degree of Autism. In some ways it can actually be advantageous to have Autism but it has some real trade offs. Yes this is coming form someone who's bother has a lesser case of Autism. He is able to function and live on his own by his own means but he often reacts to situations in questionable ways.

Autism goes from being an utter genius on X field to trying to lick computer screens as your daily meal.

clearly it's not a joke when people are starting to use autism as an actual insult.

You're going to have a sad life if you take every off-hand comment personally.

I can not take everything personally yet still find it stupid, pointless and saying they shouldn't do that, it's like replaving ''autist'' in that sentence with black and see hwo far that gets you

I absolutely get why you are offended and you have right for it, but replace word autist with retard and it's suddenly more acceptable for many people. Or idiot. Actually telling me never used word idiot?

Neclord4 votes

So "it's insulting to me as someone who does have autism" isn't taking it personally? Lots of words get used in the wrong way buddy.

Prime example: Literally - Now includes the meaning of 'acknowledging that something is not literally true but used for emphasis or to express strong feeling', simply because people used it, wrongly, in that regard. Language evolves over time, usually because it gets used incorrectly.

Do you honestly believe that he refers to you and others like you when he used the word autist? Most people recognize to not think of it as an actual autistic person, they recognize the word has been diluted.

Papa Andrei2 votes

As a psych major. No one is attacking you, its all in your head about being attacked by these comments. They are all laughingb at you for being so triggered, not for being autistic

Arakadia3 votes

Its a pretty crude joke that is offensive to certain people.

Neclord4 votes

Why should anyone care if someone is offended by a word? They're not suited to open dialogue if they cannot handle a word being used in conversation, especially in jest.

I was taught "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" when I was three years old. Why in adulthood does that lesson no longer apply?

SaltyKracka2 votes

Because you were taught a shitty lesson that is and was patently untrue?

Neclord1 votes

That's some well thought out reasoning you have to back up your claims.

Do you advocate for adults to be taught to be more fragile than three year olds?

Arakadia2 votes

Why should anyone care if someone is offended by a word?

Oh I dunno. Maybe its just thoughtfulness.

They're not suited to open dialogue if they cannot handle a word being used in conversation, especially in jest.

Maybe you'd understand if you had to deal with these things. I'm sure some homosexuals don't like being called a %%%got, even if you consider it a joke.

I was taught "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" when I was three years old. Why in adulthood does that lesson no longer apply?

That lesson doesn't apply always. Thats just an excuse for your harsh language. Words carry weight and your ignorance of other's thoughts and feelings is ridiculous.

I absolutely love how you just outright assume I'm in some kind of safety bubble and have never received any kind of verbal abuse before. I live in the real world, that's not how it works. Now to the main points you make.

What does "I'm offended about a word you used" have to do with the person's thoughts on the topics of threads about Ghostcrawler? That's right, zilch. Nobody wants to see it. Nobody cares.

The lesson doesn't apply always, correct. Thankfully we're in a specific condition where it does apply. Using 'autist' in jest on an Internet forum is not overtly harsh and should not be taken personally. Your attempt to spin it as otherwise, especially to compare it to approaching someone who is homosexual and saying blatantly and plainly: "you're a %%%got", is rather odd, and a poor attempt at strengthening your position. I highly doubt someone who did that would be upvoted 30+ times like the post you are comparing.

It would be wise for you not to misconstrue blatant abuse with minor vulgarity. Treating them as the same thing would be dangerous to say the least. If I took every use of vulgarity I saw as a personal attack I would be sorely depressed out of my mind. It would certainly drive me insane.

I'm sure you became gleeful due to my "assumption". I bet it did give you happiness, because that makes sense. And you still don't seem to be understanding or putting yourself in their shoes.

Nobody wants to see it. Nobody cares.

Speak for yourself.

Using 'autist' in jest on an Internet forum is not overtly harsh and should not be taken personally.

I don't think anyone is taking it personally. I think those who are upset over it are upset due to people's ignorance, insensitivity, lack of understanding, and carelessness. Being born with autism may seem like just a joke to you, but it is life changing. It doesn't matter to you, because you don't have autism.

While suicide and autism are unrelated and on different levels, they do have a common theme on the internet: people have made it seem like a much smaller thing. Suicide is a horrible thing and people have made it a joke. Autistic people most likely would rather not be autistic, yet people joke about it like 12 year olds joke about penises.

I highly doubt someone who did that would be upvoted 30+ times like the post you are comparing.

Those who aren't homosexual, autistic, etc. don't care about those words nearly as much. Its become so common and its a joke people throw around without second thoughts. And people care more about this posts quality than his word choice. Despite that though, his word choice and other people's word choices do matter.

If I took every use of vulgarity I saw as a personal attack I would be sorely depressed out of my mind.

People who find certain slang words that apply to them specifically usually don't get upset because those words are a "personal attack". They aren't freaking out because someone used the word autist, unless that word as aimed at them as in insult. They are upset because people don't think how another person might react to how casual "autistic" has become.

Try putting yourself in their shoes. Its not that you think the OP is personally attacking you. Its that something that changed your life and permanently creates some form of barrier, thin or thick, between you other people is a joke to them. The OP doesn't consider that there really are autistic people.

An autistic person has enough crap to deal with. I'm quite sure they don't want people using one of their birth traits as an insult. Autism suddenly becomes a much worse thing when you use it as an insult.

Why do I need to put myself in their shoes? I am in their shoes. By their own standards I should also be offended and be taking issue with this. You'll likely call me a liar because this doesn't fit with your narrative but there are people who are sensible enough to recognize how words are diluted on the Internet, and don't hold nearly as much weight as they do in the real world.

It doesn't matter to you, because you don't have autism.

Nice. More assumptions.

Those who aren't homosexual, autistic, etc. don't care about those words nearly as much.

Those who are, like myself for the latter, don't care either. The OP recognizes that the majority of people, autistic or otherwise, recognize the dilution of the word, recognize that they are not directly attacking autistic people and therefore do not have an issue. Using a word does not make you ignorant to issues. You are using a _word. _ You are not dismissing the issues that face people associated with that word by using it flagrantly on an internet forum. To take it in such a way is to take it personally; it is truly sad that you fail to make that distinction.

Words are diluted all too often. I've reference 'literally' in another reply. The definition was changed to fit its incorrect usage. This is how language works. It's rather common for incorrectly used words to be changed to fit the more common usage.

An autistic person has enough crap to deal with.

Indeed. In my personal experience I have less crap to deal with by not narcissistically making it part of my character and opening up the word to be a weapon.

Autism suddenly becomes a much worse thing when you use it as an insult.

Nope. It becomes a worse thing when you allow it to be insulting. You'll find the vast majority of people here are overwhelmingly understanding of mental health issues.

How would somebody autistic know that autistic is offensive if they're autistic?

Arakadia1 votes

Your going to trigger the hell out of alot of people lol.

Arakadia2 votes

I don't think their upset that people are attacking them, but rather their insensitivity and ignorance to his concerns and feelings.

then what can you use as a insult? there's always someone who's actually fat, stupid, ugly, autistic, gay ...

Need more Shatter combos in LoL Kappa.

Well, technically Liss can do a shatter combo, she has a frost nova and deep freeze. It just doesn't get increased damage.
