Riot somehow managed to make the game MORE snowbally

NTrumpWeTrust··198 votes·6,298 views

I've played 10 games so far and this is brutal. 1 person gets ahead and their overpowered runes just 1 shot people. This is actually absurd. EVERYONE is doing too much damage. Guess we'll wait 5 months for them to nerf some of these runes/masteries. Game feels like Hots now. Put random overpowered garbage that is only fun for the person using it and toxic for balance. gg

Dark. Harvest.

Thefrostyviking8 votes

Dark harvest is only strong lategame though, i tested it and you get like 12 stacks for clearing your entire jungle.

And you have like 20 seconds to get any use of it until you have 150 stacks, just to get there without any champion takedowns you´d need like 20 minutes in total or more.

It actually feels hard to use it.

Fedoran21 votes

After playing PBE for almost a month with dark harvest, I can conclude it is not just late game.

-It has base damage -It has mixed ratios -It scales with souls -Souls drop from cannon minions (including your own), kills, assists, or even if didnt get a takedown players still drop souls. Jungle camps give way less souls so they are mostly just to get a proc -You should get 150 souls by 20 mins -Remember, the damage scales but enemies start the game with lower health, making it not useless at all in lane

Thefrostyviking2 votes

Yeah but cannon minions only spawn like every third wave.

There is 0 certainly in having a kill heavy game, at least for your own team.

There is no guarantee your own team will do well enough to let you sit back and just farm, nor is there any that you will actually have the damage ready when it's time to fight.

It mainly seems like something for kill heavy junglers like kha6, elise or maybe eve with new runes.

For everyone else it's a extreme case of feast or famine.

Defensive runes : "Add 3 armor if near a turret during the first 5 minuts of the game and an allied is nearby". Offensive runes : "You gain 80% AS upon attacking an ennemy champion, you can break the AS limit with it".

Who could have guessed that people were going to die faster ? :o :o :o

painkills3 votes

This is a good point. Lethal Tempo gives huge benefit for doing what you were gonna do anyway (keep attacking someone). Offensive runes in general have massive benefits with low effort, whereas tank / defense runes are SUUUPER iffy.

I want to get some defenses to back up my damage but it just doesnt seem worth it to try. Might as well put all eggs in damage basket because defense isnt significant enough.

LordGeovanni37 votes

early defense gone. early damage taken away but supplemented with runes that are way more busted. the worst part is they make everything outscale defense from the begging of the game straight to the end.

GelsominoKiller18 votes

It is the exact same issue introduced with old keystone mastery system : defensive options are complete garbage and % damage everywhere. They took a year to notice that something was off and halve the damage from masteries, but it looks like they made the very same mistake again

Yeah, I'm a bit perplexed at the logic here. The "new" keystone mastery system has been a balance nightmare from day 1, while runes have reliably given flexibility without being OP, and have in fact gone largely untouched without issues. So let's rip out this long-standing core of balanced flexibility, and put in basically a supercharged master system consisting of 4 keystones. Surely that will resolve the balance issues and not amplify them...

This patch has ghostcrawler written all over it. Enjoy. Same thing happened to WoW

I feel as if the power across the boards is to high.

I played Nautilus in my game, Dying in 1.5 seconds with 4000k hp against an Ap Shaco Heimerdinger and Corki when I had item 3001 item 3083 item 3068 item 3065

Like I walked into a box intentionally with my Shield up to proc it so that my carries wouldn't. And before I got out of the fear I died from full Hp.

Flawless Fetus8 votes

You walked into hard cc, and got 1v3d. It would be a problem if naut could face tank cc, get 1v3d, and then walk on out. Lol.

Rıots Bad Client11 votes

but the fact I can't eat cc, and eat a few hits without dying is not fun. I got blown up so fast, my team whom was units behind me coudln't even react fast enough. I could have been full ap and die jsut as fast but be able to be useful.

As a tank I want be a.... TANK. I want to be able to walk in fights, eat some abilities, walk out and heal with warmogs repeat. But its not a thing you can do now without dying in a second.

Would it really be a problem if front line champions could survive a single CC duration while attacked by only half the enemy team? What's the point in ever playing a melee in league if it's considered a problem to be able to survive long enough (while building full tank!) to walk half the distance required to reach the enemy before falling over dead?

LordGeovanni18 votes

Ranged champion mains have a problem with that because they feel like they dont do any damage if they dont chunk a person dedicated to building defense like they chunk the ones who arent dedicated to building defense.

As a Shaco player, I feel your pain. Either I one-shot literally everybody, or I get one-shotted by literally everybody. There's little room for setting up elaborate traps and baits that Shaco thrives on when everything happens instantly.

Mages got a pretty good indirect buff since no one can start with 12 flat MR anymore, even without the 8 flat pen you're basically getting 5 pen for the cost

Though being stuck with just health per level does mean you can't specialize against AD assassins who do well with a lot of the newer runes

Everyone who did get armor still has to deal with all the new damage runes. Press the Attack, Dark Harvest, and Electrocute means bursters who use autos are doing a lot better. It feels like everyone is exploding.

RavenMagus8 votes

The new major mage rune, Arcane Comet, seems really bad. I admit I haven't tested it out too much yet (it's only been out for half a day), but I keep seeing it miss targets that are simply walking around.

the weeaboo11 votes

its meant for hard CC mages like Lux, Ryze, Anivia, etc. If you can't lokc them down it not worth taking.

RavenMagus7 votes

Even Lux wouldn't want it; if she wants extra damage that only applies when she lands a snare, she might as well take Thunderlords Electrocute which does much higher damage. Her main poke spell (E) will cause the comet to miss most of the time. The same is true of SO many mages.

The Arcane Comet just screams "this is the thing you want for offensive mage power" - it's even the chosen keystone on the default "I'm a mage!" runepage - and yet so few mages can actually use it all that effectively. Why is the default Mage Keystone so incredibly niche among mages?

the weeaboo2 votes

I think you underestimate the power of Lux's E slow.

Also it's not even niche. Even if it does miss that means they had to dodge it. You can throw another spell where they will dodge to.

RavenMagus3 votes

I think you underestimate the power of Lux's E slow.

I don't, but Lux's E stops slowing when it does damage, so you get the comet after it's finished slowing the enemy.

(Well, it does linger for a fraction of a second, and maybe that is enough slow? Will have to test it sometime, but I'm skeptical.)

Even if it does miss that means they had to dodge it.

It's as simple as just moving around. That doesn't take any thought or reaction to dodge - if you are walking in a straight line, it'll miss.

A vast majority of mages got an indirect nerf comparatively speaking to other champion roles. Lux is the only one I can really think of right now, but any mage that wasn't meta prior to these runes are certainly going to be unplayable.

I can assure you Lux didn't get a nerf. She now has a 10 Sec level 16 Ult. Her actual scaling is about the same, or more, especially if you get to a Void staff, which is now 40%.

I can assure you that Lux's early game is butchered. The only problem is trying to get to the late game. Yes the scaling on the new runes is beyond busted atm but that doesn't mean you can easily achieve what you need on lux and be relevant throughout the game

Azadethe2 votes

Which Lux runes are you using?

Luxana Crowngard2 votes

Sorcery and Domination. What runes were you using? But whatever, I'm not going to sit here and argue because it's meaningless. I'm only a Lux main and can see the flaws.

Snowballing is fucking stupid, when I lose I want it to be because I'm getting outplayed consistently, not because I made 1 little mistake and gave up a kill and then get stat-checked for the rest of the game, and now that catchup XP is gone theres no safety nets. When I outplay someone 3 levels ahead of me, I shouldn't need to do that for the rest of the game, that is not good game design, sorry riot, I like defending you and stuff, but this snowball meta is pissing me off heavily.

For the LOVE OF GOD, BUFF TOWERS

DarkBlockStone13 votes

It's no longer viable to play tanks anymore, as the new rune system no longer supports playing as a tank, meaning if your play style is to tank attacks, so that the your squishier teammates can get some breathing room, is no longer possible, yes the resolve path does give you a bit of armor and magic resist, but not enough in my eyes, the previous rune system allowed you to have 30 armor and 30 magic resist from the get go, that's also including the unyielding mastery, which gives you an extra 5% armor and magic resist, which was one of the few things allowed you to become tanky in the first place. As a person who enjoyed playing as a tank, it is now longer fun playing as one, as there's no longer any survivability as a tank.

Psybicilin10 votes

The amount of burst in the game has gone way up, when I was playing brand, I could do like 80% health in a e-q-w rotation before back. The lack of defensive runes and the AP/ad stat stick runes really make the game a glass Cannon fiesta

Cyrosi9 votes

I really like the support based runes like guardian and the enchanted boots. With that being said, I feel like pretty much all the runes are problematic because they can stack. I already get items that increase healing by 20 or 30% when I have a full build. Then I get 2 talents that add 5-10% more each and some shielding stuff?

That seems kind of OP.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

but if healing was so strong why wouldnt anyone just build item 3123

I think it's so funny all the people freaking out lol It's the first day of a major change. It's called preseason. They know there will be more changes that need to be done before the start of the regular season.

Besides i'm glad they killed league of tanks. People with now skill that just stack defense and wait to outscale. Sorry kids. get outplayed

In what elo did building tanky outscale building offense? Is there an elo below bronze 5 that I'm unaware of?

ImABeast20fo72 votes

Are you serious?

Glory ln Death5 votes

Yes, he is. Tank itemization is great in the mid game, but falls off hard in late game, while many damage dealers (especially ADCs) scale very strongly into the late game. If you get to the late game, a hypercarry is much more likely to mean victory for their team than a tank.

FourVsFive6 votes

Just reading the runes before they were released people predicted this get out of hand in dmg. As I stated before the patch was out the new rune system will make the game more of a snowball game and team fights be no fun because people will just be deleted in a matter of seconds.

Niaphim5 votes

Somehow? You know some s**t is going to happen when they compensate most ad champions for their loss of ad, don't compensate mr from old runes and introduce more damage with new runes. It's a snowball galore until most things are nerfed across the board (or not, then we are counter strike now with a new shiny adc meta).

Barcid5 votes

You have a really piss-poor understanding of HotS if you really think it's comparable to the current shitstorm.

Is the game faster like HotS now? Sure. But HotS is purely focused on quick play and teamfighting with the entire game being built around it. League still has the remnants of a "single player laning phase" while having all the impact of teamfighting early. That's why it's a fucking mess.

If you'd play HotS as a team member instead of just somebody playing in the game, you'd do fine.
