What would actually be epic is if the longer the game went on the worse the weather got. Can you imagine a team fight at 60 minutes at baron pit with the rain pouring down and the wind howling and lightening lighting up the battlefield?

FantasySniper21 votes

I would love for that kind of atmosphere, but unfortunately, that's a big no-no for LC$. It hurts visibility for the audience even if the pros play without weather on.

IPromiseTomorrow33 votes

The weather can be a toggle option.

It can even be a weekly SR exclusive.

Did it can be so much more.

Tornado storms, tsunamis, Lightning storm, RUNETERRA WEATHER (Rito make something up.)

This storm idea can be taken to huge levels garenteed.

As a flavor option for casual gameplay, I would love for it to happen.

Still a better RGM Than ARSR

RavenMagus4 votes

as someone who actually liked ARSR, I disagree

TheSnacken2 votes

Well, alright. Meme value aside, ARSR wasn't bad, simply unexciting. If the weather had some additional impact, a wild-weather SR would at least be more engaging, wouldn't you agree?

RavenMagus3 votes

It's only unexciting because it doesn't have all the jazz that game modes like Ascension or Nexus Siege or Blood Moon have. I honestly really wish it were our alternate game mode instead of ARAM.

But, I can't disagree that a SR with wild weather would be pretty darn cool. I do love thunderstorms.

That would motivate people to make the game longer

Totally. Summoners Rift should have random weather each game. This would be awesome.

But RNG drakes are unhealthy for the game

Yes! Riot needs to bring back Butcher's Bridge and put thunderstorms on it.

"We can't do cool shit like this, because 90% of the people who play league, do so, on a potato." - Rito

doiminat0r36002 votes

I used to play on a 750m GPU in a laptop. Was miserable. The new client wouldn't even load without being in potato mode. To make it worse, they rubbed it in my face by saying it was swapping to potato mode every time it launched.

I did upgrade to a Ryzen 7 1080 system. I think the new machine could handle it. Easy.

The Taco Kat2 votes

Strange how a 750m couldn't run it very well. I have used it with Intel HD 530/GTX 960m (2gb, wasn't enabled at first) and it ran fine (granted it was paired with an i7-6700HQ).

Anyways, how is the new rig? I'm thinking of upgrading my FX-6300 to a Ryzen 5 during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.

doiminat0r36002 votes

I really like it. Of course there are a lot of new AAA games not optimized for Ryzen and as a result, they crash very often. Watch Dogs 2 has crashed so much and Ryzen isn't even even detected as a good enough CPU. Even when I hit Ultra settings at 80 FPS, it's not meeting minimum requirements with 3.5 ghz.

New GPU is a gem though. FTW 1080. Best thing evar.

Here is the build if you're interested.

The Taco Kat2 votes

That's definitely a really nice build you have. I'm still running an FX-6300 and a 2gb GTX 950. I think I'm gonna grab an RX 480 (or similar) soon, then get the new processor later down the line (especially cause I still have to swap out RAM and a motherboard). Anyways, happy gaming on your (semi) new computer!

doiminat0r36002 votes

Go for atleast a 6GB+ GPU RAM. Not gonna ever hit max settings with only 2.

The Taco Kat2 votes

Yeah, I got it back in 2015. I also only play at 1440x900, so the system does still hold up decently with 2 gb. I definitely won't get a new monitor prior to upgrading though lol.

I'm thinking of getting a 4gb RX 480/580, but if I see a nice price drop on a 6GB or 8GB card I'll definitely go for it. If I see a $220 or less 8GB 480/570/580, I'll definitely pick up one of those. (I'm leaning towards AMD cause a FreeSync monitor sounds pretty nice.)

doiminat0r36002 votes

If I were you, I'd spend the extra hundred or so and get a 1070. More compatible and you get a free game from most distributers.

The Taco Kat2 votes

I would, but I don't like spending too much on a computer. I typically get parts and they'll last me for years. Like the processor I have now, I got it in a combo with a motherboard for $90 and have used it for 4 or 5 years now. Plus, I don't really have too much money at my disposal. I just turned 16 and am hoping to save most of what I get, which is why I'm waiting for price reductions and Black Friday sales before anything. Cheers for the recommendation, though.

Screw just having weather, I want dynamic clouds that move across the map reducing light where they travel and causing rain particles to appear on the screen if it starts to rain. I also want brand to lose 10% of his max hp every second when he is standing in the rain clouds.

The Taco Kat2 votes

And if he gets hit for longer than 2 seconds, he also has an AOE burst from around him that does an extra 20% max health to all targets hit on a small delay. Too much?

This is actually a great idea, but i'd want it to be confined to just normal games and normal draft while leaving it out of ranked so that there's slightly more clarity there [slayer-jinx-catface]

An Draoi2 votes

maybe pilot it in normals? if it were worked well enough so that it didn't have a large visual impact and was mostly just aesthetic i think it could be used in all modes

Placentas3 votes

This is a cool idea. I think it should be one of those random game modes we get every week.

As someone stated, the weather should get worse as the game progresses. This would include

  • a darker environment due to the increasingly heavier rain fall

-flashes of lightning that give moments of clarity (maybe see people in bushes?)

-the river would start to flood, first slowing the movement speed to eventually making the river path so flooded you cant pass through but only be swept down from one end of the map to the other

-Tornadoes that will transport players

-a random minute or two of hail that will inflict a certain amount of true damage on all players

-Maybe a period of time where there's fog that causes spot blindness

Ozzie Storm1 votes

this sounds so promising. Loving the river sweeping players, random effects such as hail damage and fog blindness and thunder revealing everything 4 a sec. Now i'm sad because this won't see the day of light.

I'd happily pay to have Weather Effects like Dota 2 has. Cool stuff like this is always needed on the Rift.

Altonius Amakiir2 votes

Would be cool if they implemented weather in a rotating game mode. There would be patches of weather here and there on the map. Like sandstorm near blue-side mid lane, thunderstorm top lane and top side river, etc. The map would be broken into weather regions and every few minutes the weather would change per region by RNG, there would be nothing preventing multiple regions having the same weather. Certain champs could get a power boost in certain weather, while others get a debuff and/or take damage occasionally.

Example: In a sandstorm, Shurima champions would get a movement speed boost; while other champs would take 2 damage per second, lose 10 movement speed, and 50 visibility range.

Çhåryzård2 votes

I feel like they don't add weather because it might screw with people's games and make them a little laggy.

However there's always the option to turn stuff off too.

Almighty1 votes

This will probably end up being something like Blitzcrank R passive.

To which i say: No!

League does not need anymore game changing RNG for people to vent over. And i can already see the effect of your Thunderstorm suggestion. "Uuuuh i survived with 1 HP but stupid RNG storm struck me and i dead fk u rot games ruin this game but i still play it"

[slayer-jinx-unamused]

It's going to be the plant hate all over again.

Almighty.

GrReaper963 votes

Doesnt have to affect the game in any way, simply extra particles and effects, like in DoTA

Almighty3 votes

Well the OP did not specify if he wants the Thunderstorm to be a gameplay mechanic or not.

But if it's only for visuals i'm fine with it. As long as it doesn't affect clarity too much.

Almighty.
