Laning vs Team fighting when playing Taric

I'm not sure if this is just a low elo mistake, but I have noticed that some people keep Taric linked to the ADC when they finally reach the team fight phase.

I can understand keeping him linked to the ADC while laning because you really don't have any other choice.

Your job at that point is to basically keep them alive, so yeah, that makes sense.

However, once you move into the team fight, I honestly think you are better off swapping your partner over to the tank.

They will have significantly more health, and they will most likely already have some resistances of their own.

The bonus armor and shield based on the target's max HP from your Bastion and the small amounts of health you provide will go much further toward their effective health.

Also, if everyone is positioned correctly, your stun should be much more effective coming from them than the ADC.

From the enemy team's perspective, this makes the nuisance tank much harder to ignore, drawing attention away from the damage dealers.

Imagine trying to put down a monster who is occasionally getting heals, bonus armor and shields, throwing out AOE stuns, and suddenly becomes invulnerable.

[zombie-brand-mindblown] THANK YOU!

When I play Taric support I'm just default to linking to the ADC because I don't know who else to link to!

This helps me massively! +1 good sir!

This is true sometimes. But sometimes it isn't. As an ADC is squishy as hell, they are often targeted first. The reason for this is that they deal the most damage and are the largest threat. Theoretically, tanks should always be targeted last, so that enemies can wipe out damage threats and work their way down the pole from there. For this reason alone, linking to the tanks doesn't offer as much help to your team as linking to your team's primary damage dealer, which is most often the ADC. Linked to the super squishy, #1 target ADC, you provide them some armor and you provide them a shield, heals, and invulnerability, not to mention you can peel off of them using Dazzle. This is more important in team fights because you absolutely need your primary damage dealers alive. Granted, your primary damage dealer could be your lane marksman, but it could also be an assassin like Zed or Talon, or also a quick skirmisher like Yasuo, Diana, or Fiora. Either way, these people are often targeted first and thus need your protection more than someone like Darius, Nautilus, Sejuani, Amumu, or Garen.

This is actually why I was sure to say "if everyone is positioned correctly," meaning the ADC is in a good enough position to not be engaged upon without at least a sufficient amount of peel available. That is, for the most part the tank's primary focus, .. or it should be.

If the tank is able to provide the proper amount of peel for the ADC then keeping the tank alive will keep the ADC alive.

Making the tank more of a nuisance for the enemy team will make it harder for the enemy team to target the ADC and they will fail, change priority, or retreat. .... and/or lose the fight.

Taric is honestly not ideal as a heal bot. His heal grants a target AT BEST 180 + 60%AP (and Taric isn't known for having much AP) + 4.5% bonus health, and that is with 3 charges. Bastion gives a shield of 12% of the target's maximum health. On the champion who most likely has the least health on the team, .. somewhere between 1500 and 2000 that is only 180 - 240 health. And yes Bastion also gives bonus armor to the target, 20% of Taric's armor at max rank. Taric is definitely good at stacking a lot of armor, but even 20% of 300 is 60, so the ADC would be better off having an Iceborn Gauntlet in their inventory. Assuming that the ADC doesn't have any additional armor other than their base, which is normally somewhere around 80 at level 18, a bonus 60 armor puts them at around 140 armor in total. The tank will most likely have built health and armor, and probably some magic resistance for themselves, and will already have more than this, so the bonus armor will go much farther on them.

Now, .. I will say that this is all in an ideal situation.

Of course there will be some times when it may ultimately be better to link with your ADC, or maybe even one of the other roles, but I genuinely believe if your tank is in the fight, you should be linked with them.

As for his ultimate, .. His team should really be aware of when he has it up. I personally ping my team what my ultimate timer often, and again just before I suspect a team fight is about to happen. Then it is all on the Taric player to understand when is the perfect time to start the channel time. When the team sees this, they need to make the decision to move into range to get the invulnerability or to stay back for safety.

The problem with having a link with the ADC in order to ensure that they get the invulnerability is that they are the priority target, and that if they are focused they will die before the channel completes.
