I don't like this new Jungle.

BEFORE YOU READ: I hate the new jungle. I tried to like it, tried to adapt to it, but it's just become so complicated. I have listed below a few Point that I ether think needs improvement, or a change that I completely disagree with. For those of you not wanting to go through the entire wall of text. I have broken it down into sections for you. feel free to just skim through the points that interest you.

MORE FARMING NEEDED FOR LESS GOLD: No more gold bonuses. (except one item with only 20gp) This is an issue. This only makes junglers weaker. It is because of the lower income that we can't build up our items fast enough to compete with Laners. We now have to rely on buffs to give us the edge in a gank, and its not like we choose when to gank, if the bottom lane pings, they need that gank NOW. They don't have the time to wait on you to grab a buff before you go down there. Jungle tanks are the most wanted types of junglers right now but they can't farm fast enough to be of a reasonable level to gank a lane when the time has come compared to AD junglers, and the AD junglers need there buffs to be of any use, less they become free feed. Then we get that ol' timey classic message "GG our Jungler sucks!"

SECURING OBJECTIVES IS WASTED EFFORT: You can no longer split push alone with the turret changes so theres no more coming back from a losing game. When they enemy is all mid taking down your 2nd turret there is nothing to take them away from that goal with. At least when split pushing was allowed, I could split off to take down one of their turrets causing a few to go back to save the lane, give my team a chance to make a comeback. Now what do I have to pull them away with? Endgame is now being forced to group up and the team that is most fed will win. That is not strategic, nor is it diverse. Now it is about counterpicks to win lanes, meaning that unless your team is fantastic at massively outplaying their counterpicks then the game was already lost at champion select.

VISION DISCOURAGES GANKING: With all the free ward trinkets, scuttle bugs and wolves, you are always fighting with the other jungler for vision and buffs. Its like lanning now sept you fight over monsters instead of CS, so the one thing that made jungling unique to laning is pretty much gone. I enjoyed the jungle because It was safe. I got to control which lane on my team becomes dangerous with my presence. Now it's just a vision war with the other jungler, which in turn reduces ganks on both ends, so why should I jungle? I can't gank without being seen unless I got that scuttle bug ward under my control, yet another thing I have to do before I go help that Bot Lane that pinged a while ago for help, and even If I have it they may still have that river bush warded with a trinket, better get that with my sweepers lens then I can go gan___ "An Ally Has Been Slain".....whoopsie. Well atleast the river is warded, we got that going for us right Bot lane? /all "GG our Jungler sucks!"

DRAGON BUFF IS WIN GAME: but the worst change by far has to be the dragon. Now games are all about who gets the most dragon buffs, and without the ability to split push turrets down to earn gold, who ever gets the most dragon buffs wins. Barrons not even needed anymore. I have yet to be in a game when teams are not constantly fighting over that stupid dragon now, and because its a stacking buff, that dragon gets easier to take down every time is spawns so the team that gets the first one down almost always get the 2nd and 3rd and so forth. at least when it was global gold it wasn't overpowering, it would just help the team build up their items, a mild but useful purpose, and the enemy still has chances to come back through high CS, turret gold, and bounties.

Look at this. This is what you get with each stack of dragon buff.

  1. Dragon's Might: +8% attack damage and ability power
  2. Dragon's Dominance: +15% damage to minions and monsters
  3. Dragon's Flight: +5% movement speed
  4. Dragon's Wrath: +15% damage to towers and buildings
  5. Aspect of the Dragon: Doubles all previous bonuses and your attacks burn for 150 true damage over 5 seconds. This stack only lasts 180 seconds.

Now look at barron:

Up to 40 ability power Up to 40 attack damage Aura promoting nearby minions Empowered recall (reduces channel time and grants heal and move speed on successful recall)

Being that you can get a few stacks of dragon buff earlier than getting 1 barron buff, who wouldn't fight over this buff? it almost as important as taking down the nexus itself.

NEW META JUNGLERS OF OP: This new Jungle is great for 2 champions though. Warwick and Fiddlesticks. The new OP junglers of this season. Heres why.

Warwick: With the new item changes and smite buffs, WW is the fastest Jungle farmer due to his Attack speed buff, and with a devour enchantment on a Trailblazers AOE smite, WW can clear camps lighting fast. collecting every buff along the way before going into lane for a gank, have you ever faced a WW with a blue buff, red buff, crug stun buff, and acid armor buff at the same time? not to mention with his ult that you almost can never escape from, can strike you 5 times in less than 2 seconds with all these steroids and damage bonuses.

Fiddlesticks: Though he can't farm as fast as a WW, with his healing W and crows of silence, his farm is still decent enough to get you there fast. With the new Crugs, imagine a fiddles that can stun you, drain you, fear you, silence you, then stun you again by Autoing you in between the fear and silence. Mastering this combo GUARANTEES YOU a win in any 1v1 fight, and you thought his ult was bad, but thats not even the worst part.

Fiddlesticks IS THE ONLY CHAMPION that can farm dragon at level 5. Remember what I said about that stacking buff that everyone fights over? Imagine this. a fiddlesticks constantly watching that ingame timer for dragon to pop up. Being that he can solo it, his team is always able to get the first dragon buff. which just makes the next one that much easier to take. He will go in the very back of the dragons den and just keep draining him till he gets his buff. If you and your team tries to go in to get that pesky scarecrow, he just smites it, taking it, then flashes over the wall behind him.

MAIN POINT: The problem is is not the champions though. The jungle is still fairly new and still in fine tuning, I get that. The issue is Riot is wanting to improve strategic diversity, but these changes right now only encourage a one way street.

Farm your lanes, get dragon, group up, and push to the Nexus. for junglers: Farm Camps, Grab vision, get dragon, push to nexus.

For those of you who took the time to read all this thank you. I broke it down as best I could and appreciate not everyone enjoys a wall of text.

Yeah the new jungle is really punishing at the moment. I think its still really fun to play in if you know all of the tricks, but it can hurt a lot if you get behind :( And the power-distribution of junglers has really been skewed with champs like Fiddle and WW having a 57%+ win-rate in SoloQ (Even Kha'zix and Lee didn't get that high last season).

The trick I found is basically playing jungle for objective control AND/OR utility now if you don't want to play the two OPs of 4.20. Nunu Zac Nocturne All can be really useful even when they are down on EXP and Gold. Nunu Is just an annoying poo-head that can hold the enemy jungler down while giving his ADC invaluable AS steroid and controlling map-wide vision. Zac is innately tanky because of his passive and can take a lot of damage while having some of the best on-demand engage without that many items. Nocturne can 1v1 the enemy carries with just brutalizer and Devourer, even if they are fed. The reason they weren't popular last season was because they don't really scale super well with TONS of gold or weren't that good at providing Early Pressure (like was popular in S4). But now that early-pressure isn't really a thing, you can just play for the utility and gold-effieciency of the champs in the Jung.

Unfortunately, sustain is basically a requirement if you don't want to get the living shit beat out of you in the first 10-15 mins of clears or so.

Honestly you brought up a lot of good points and it was a good read. They clearly need to improve the jungle and those dragon buffs are a little strong.

I completely agree with everything you said. Riot said they made these changes to make the game more about strategy and make it more diverse, but frankly it's made it quite the opposite.

I agree with you 100%, and just got out of a game thinking the same thing.

The new Dragon is far too powerful for being obtainable so early . It's basically an early game baron.

Every match I've played so far has been decided on which team gets the first Dragon.

Before, you could comeback through picks, split pushing, etc. Now it does feel like all you can do is group and try to win a team fight while the other team has a buff.

I absolutely hate how one dimensional it is right now. Dragon>all.

The losing team is basically FORCED into trying to go contest Dragon against a team that is beating them. And it almost always ends with everyone getting killed and then losing Dragon anyway.

I get that they wanted to make it more important than a static global gold gain...But this is way too much. The game feels more snow-bally than it ever has.

I don't like the feeling of fighting a losing battle for 30-40 mins after someone wins the first team fight around 6 minutes. No chance to comeback anymore unless your team is amazing.

I was honestly really excited for the jungle and Dragon changes when I first read about them..but after playing I really hate it. There was a game we played where we were ahead by 6 kills early but still ended up losing because bot died and we couldn't contest the Dragon.

It's just over too quickly, and I don't like that the game turns on a dime so much now.
