People learned to adjust around the tank meta. It was bound to happen.
#THEY'RE LEARNING
it's almost as if they can distinguish the champions they can and can't 100-0 now
The mere fact that there ARE champions they can't 100-0 is what distinguishes this from assassin meta.
Those champions never stopped seeing play after tank meta started.
Zed and Leblanc were still competitive picks and Kat was still a soloque stomp.
Fall of Assassins in LCS/ Pro Play*
Not in SoloQ
Leblanc pick/ban? Zed still being picked? Diana INSANELY popular in china? Fizz seeing play?
Yep, only in solo q do you see a team of 5 squishies where toplaners pick
and junglers pick

Noc/Reng are the two best jungle assassins in my opinion, especially for scoring picks. How can you forget them but remember the bug? That's a BAD ApplyForAGrant.
finally a smart person, noc is my main out of many reasons but people think he is weak,he deals shit tons of dmg + he is tanky.or u can just go full ad and delete people in matter of miliseconds(fk ms,u will get them from statikk, phantom.d and tf/zephyr).just buy hydra,statikk,ie,phantom.d,BT,tf/zephyr and go around one-shoting everything XD
lol yes nocturne is bae
though i play him Mid sometimes for taking out the thrash <3
My team always complains when I do that
I always do it in blind pick, or with my close friends
pfft I basically ended up maining tanks because I learned that if I didn't pick a tank, we wouldn't have one.
Surprisingly enough, most adc's and apc's can still be assassinated and are still priority targets.
And as of today, Cho'Gath is the 13th most popular mid laner, and the rest are squishies.
Tank supports have always been popular, even in the assassin meta. Leona, Thresh (when built tank) are still dominant, with Janna, Morgana, and Blitzcrank in tow. Nautilus is climbing in popularity, however, but is nowhere near overbearing followed by Braum in seventh and Alistar in eighth.
Top lane and jungle, I get, but how is this a tank meta? Of course each team needs at least one tank, the same way you need at least two carries for damage and a support for cc or sustain. Or was having three assassins per team more healthy?
3 assassins per team was my norm, but it was horrible. poor leona support trying to tank, front line and peel for adc, while Yi, Trydamere and Yasuo dive into the enemy like numbnuts, racing each other for kills instead of working together. I recently did a champ composition comparison. While it's easy to win a game without an assassin, it's hard if you have more than one. The enemy should preferably have one tank, and one tough fighter, or two tanks and an assassin. 3 assassins by all logic was always bad, in pretty much all games. But League of Assassins pulled it off, then they made it that tanks could survive assassins, and people think this is Tank meta? No, this is League of Legends, the most balanced it has been in years (teams with 3 tanks have as hard a game as teams with 3 assassins, team composition means diversity), if this was league of tanks, we'd just have 4 tanks and an adc every game and go ape s**t
Well put. For the longest time teams had no tanks and didn't suffer for it. It was a contest of who had the most burst in their team and then who caught out who. People complain about the tank meta as if all other champs are nonviable, yet having a tank to cc for your assassin to kill the enemies is way more effective than a ton of assassins. Still people act like assassins can't be played. The only tank that is really an issue anymore is sej and she is getting yet another nerf to her damage. The fact is, an assassin that knows what he is doing will always be useful as the ability to take out the enemies sustained damage in a fight before they can dish out much damage is a very useful tool. There is no tank meta, people just aren't used to not one shotting the entire enemy team.
as long as ADC remains a staple role, assassins role will never die off. as long as we have squishies, these squishy killers will stick around.
100-0 a squishy, get out for free, wait four seconds for stupid short CDs, 100-0 a tank because I'm 3/1 and that's all it takes for me to snowball out of control...
Only zed and talon can really do that since a full ad build late game scales way harder than a full ap build since they have their auto attacks still for damage and healing from life steal. And talon has a hard time getting there as is. I still hate zed and leblanc and the like, mostly cause the built in safety is really annoying to face against an assassin.
Usually you have more ap than ad. That's a bullshit ads scale harder.
AD and AP do not have the same value per stat. I think cass, karthus, and azir are the main high scaling AP dps champs, and none of them come close to resembling 1.0 scaling, except for azir, who has a ton of drawbacks from mechanical and positioning difficulty to shitty damage until late game. AD champs always have their auto attacks, which means that if all the cooldowns are down, the AD assassin will always beat the AP assassin.
probably because they just stack pen. In theory, assassins should be able to stack raw damage and delete squishies, but they just build a ton of pen and delete squishies, which also lets them deal with tanks extremely well. Look at zed. What's he build? Bork and pen. percent health and penetration items are counters to tanks, not squishies. There's a reason these champs are so fucking strong, and it's that their ability base and scaling damage let them get away with stacking penetration and not actual damage.
Yeah, their base damages are to high while they ratios aren't to extreme, hence full pen. It is unfortunate.
Lumber into the whole enemy team, RsmiteWEQE lumbers back out with the enemy adc impaled on his anchor
And Riot nerfed Cinderhulk and buffed that piece of shat BotRK more.
I swear Riot is like dinosaurs most of the time, they have like 2 brains and both are equally useless and they function mostly on reflexes alone.
It's painfully obvious when Riot's left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
It's also painfully obvious when they do know but are just flat wrong.
It's further, completely obvious when they are so tired of being told they are wrong (and it turning out to be true in spite of misbegotten out of context statistics telling them otherwise) that the veterans quit communicating with the community or move on to a different role in the company and then some poor newbie with not enough thick skin sticks their head out and gets bit.
I get that the negative and vicious feedback is overwhelming, but the community was built from the ground up on excessively intense and competitive people, it's time to be equally intense and demanding when doing your job rather than pretending you're in your dream job and burying your head in the sand to keep up the appearances just to keep the stress levels low. You're really not unless a large chunk of your loudest detractors still don't take you for granted.
Assassins will always be popular and successful in Solo Q because the League community has a tendency of feeding the shit out of them, either 1v1 or dying to a roam that I pinged was coming 9 times.
The article that Riot wrote specifically references professional and high-level play, and in these levels of play assassins have really fallen off because players know how to deal with these assassins and work with tanks.
At low levels of play, you are going to see a lot of assassins dominate because players can't deal with them.
lolwut LeBlanc and Zed are amazing in LCS.
And, like, no other assassins see play outside of those two after the Cinderhulk changes, and Zed might not be too relevant of a pick after the 5.9 changes kick in.
In the LCS, he's already seeing decreased popularity not because of the nerfs, but because Urgot and Cho'Gath have found their niche as midlane anti-assassins.
Otherwise, Zed is still very relevant as an assassin with great waveclear, safety and poke. He just has to be more patient about going in on teamfights instead of constantly trying to make plays—something all assassins should have to do (and curiously enough, something from which LeBlanc is disappointingly still exempt).
Yeah i read that and they said and play close attention to this now you have to wait for the right time and let your team go in first? are you joking thats how it is always has to be the assassin can not set up its' own kills and finish them by himself while by passing the whole enemy team. You are the fragile but deadly assassin not the hulk smashing everything in its was. If they finaly have to decide When to commit and not just do i want a free kill??? makes you think how things where before when people said it was still balanced??
talon, broken used here makes no sense if anything hes the most balanced of the assasins
He's broken because people aren't coordinated/fast enough to react to him in Solo Queue, not because he does anything special as an assassin
hes only really broken against slow players and that's pretty much it.
Caught called a pussy champ by a ziggs...who continued to not even get a seekers armguard even tho I rushed hexdrinker against him.. building straight damage isnt always best accept for maybe riven xD
I'll never understand the solo Queue mentality of continuing to build damage when they're behind.
"OK, Darius got me the first four times, but now, I have a long sword over his finished Tiamat! Surely I'll win if I all-in him this time!"
Edit note Changed "beat damage" to "build damage"
There is one item that counters him HARD and one champion too.
and
and
. He is balanced because once he commits to an all in, he gotta "All In", not poof off somewhere else (Hi
). If someone is too slow to react, then buddy I'm sorry. You won't get that in Plat II
If someone is too slow to react, then buddy I'm sorry. You won't get that in Plat II
Exactly.
But people who can't react to Cutthroat takes up 90% of the League community if you go by that standard, therefore he's OP by majority rule.
Binary, expectable gameplay and heavily reliant on opponents making a mistake first is the reason why Talon was barely winning when used in competitive (when his silence existed) and is now gone completely from competitive.
He exploits perfect opportunities well, but he can't open any opportunities for himself to use, unlike other Assassins. It's not very hard to counter Talon if they are reckless.
Tank Meta is best meta because you have a lot of items in the game to play around it like Tenacity, Penetration for Armor and Magic Resist, and % Health items. Most other metas will be much more annoying since there isn't anti-armor penetration or anti-magic resist penetration meaning other metas just zone out some champions entirely. Tank Meta lets most champions be competitive besides a few REALLY single target Assassins, but they mainly just need reworks or buffs (Shaco and the lot).
Fall of "Everyone is an assassin", not fall of assassins as a class, if anything, having a good assassin on your team is more crucial than ever so that you can kill their carry so their carry can't kill your tank so your tank can tank the whole enemy team so you can win the team fight so you can...
Incoming Rengar nerfs!
That was pretty exclusive to LCS.
and
have been strong for a while now.
and
are getting up there.
Kat and LB are pretty strong in solo queue, not much chance of that changing so long as teams have three or more squishies on them.
The rest are fairly strong due to their ability to be useful in a variety of situations.
Fortunately we don't see teams consisting of four assassins anymore, thus many claim the days of the assassin meta are done.
...I think Riot is referring to AD Assassins and not mages (such as
).
BTW only LB is still used in competitive play (by winning teams anyway).
I find fizz is back to being broken as hell. still don't understand why they gave him a weaker zhonyas.
stronger*
zhonyas doesn't do AoE damage and blink at the same time.
