The meta got me thinking...is it time for True Armor?

Imean there's true damage and on-hit effects everywhere now. So why not True Armor? Why not include a stat that can help counteract the sheer amount of DoT's and on-hit effects in the game?

X True Armor would mitigate X incoming damage, post-resistances, every single time any amount of damage is taken.

However, True Armor wouldn't have to be busted like True Damage currently is:

  • There wouldn't be much True Armor on any individual item - say, 3~5 True Armor on items that have it
  • If items that have True Armor have too much synergy, True Armor could simply be a Unique Passive
  • True Armor would be strictly on non-tank items only, and only possibly on a tank/juggernaut item in the form of an active or upon a certain condition being met
  • If True Armor is too powerful against creeps/objectives/etc., it would be halved rounded down versus non-champions or even simply do nothing against non-champion damage instead; alternatively, non-champions could have X True Armor Penetration (lol)
  • There would be NO "%Health True Armor"! EVER!!!
  • Champions that are all about melting people with DoT's could get their lategame mechanics buffed to compensate. They're mostly fairly linear anyway (Teemo, Brand and Malz for example; main them or not you have to admit there isn't much to any of these champions!).

Riot would love it as it wouldn't counter crit marksmen or melee hypercarries since they do so much per hit the mitigation would be laughabe! It wouldn't make games longer either because it would be on only OFFENSIVE ITEMS! True Armor (or whatever they want to call it) could even be in runes of aggressive rune pages to replace bad/broken runes or even in the form of a shard!

I think this is a great idea, I've been wanting Riot to implement an item against True Damage for a long long time. In my opinion, True damage doesn't really need to be in the game because its essentially an "uninteractive" stat that you cannot defend against.

True damage only serves to better keep the dominance of AD champions and I hate it.

True armor sounds kinda... too specific to be named true armor.

Damage reduction on the hand sounds nice and heavy-handed instead.

That's fair.

You had me until here:

True Armor would be strictly on non-tank items only

It amazes me that even in the state they're in people want to shit on tanks even more. Tank itemization is insufficient for the amount of damage and burst in the game, and fighters already have superior itemization, both offensively and defensively. IMO it should be on ONLY tank items, because, you know, tanks are supposed to tank?

Well, how does one possibly make a hp/resistance only item with something like True Armor on it balanced?

What else would tanks ever bother buying? Heck they'd probably wind up rushing at least one of them every game. Even a smidge of something like True Armor on a defensive item would make them immediately so obscenely tanky from the get-go. Even if it were on the likes of Locket or a defense-oriented support item, every tank ever would just start rushing that item. It'd be a no-brainer choice for all of them as well as sustain juggernauts, just like crit marksmen's ever-problematic item 3095 right now.

Damage-oriented champions, or even skirmishers/bruisers, on the other hand, would love the option of this stat. True Armor would make many of them actually more sturdy than paper mache in this burst meta and actually potentially encourage a meta built around longer exchanges and teamfights which everyone loves. Giving it to tanks willy-nilly would push that overboard and create the Tank meta again which we all...yeah.

Tanks could still buy a true armor item eventually, but rushing any of them would (and should) be a clear pain.

I've always thought that a 1-attack dodge active would be a good idea on t2 boots but I could be EXTREMELY wrong about that.

The point of true damage is that, if taken, it can be neither increased nor decreased. If that changed, it would lose its purpose. Might as well have crushing damage, piercing damage, fire, frost, etc. And then, of course, people would clamor for a new damage type that wasn't affected by mitigation (and yet didn't ignore immunity effects like pure damage does): truer damage, which other people would eventually want to mitigate, and so on.

And that's called walls and ladders.

TL;DR: No.

Lmao. That will probably fly over a lot of people's heads here since that article is intended for experienced programmers to read. How many people here you think would even know what a "TopMost" window is. Hell, how many would even know what a window is.

I think everyone will know what a window is. We all have phones, but we also all have computers so that we can do actual work or gaming. :P And I think most people will be familiar with "always on top," as seen in Task Manager, some media players, etc. If not, the article gives an example in plain English of "walls and ladders."
