"Hidden power" The new buzzword

Mira Arya Enthe··9 votes·900 views

Because apparently every champion in the game needs an alert over their heads during the game that says "I'm about to deal damage to you! I do % HP damage watch out! Oh! I get movement speed when I attack!"

Because apparently people are too stupid to figure those things out? Sorry, I don't think we are that dumb, and we can all read.

But here IS a useful suggestion to help fix this 'hidden power' problem without being fucking ridiculous. Add a brief description of champion's abilities on the champ select/load screen. So people can read what the champion does before the match starts, if it is so hard to figure out that when they hit you, they deal damage.

No! People would actually KNOW what my champion does!

Completely ruins the element of surprise!

TBH I've never bought the "hidden power" argument, even when it was used by Riot themselves to describe like, old Taric's auras.

The only hidden power I've seen in league is whenever Nidalee's infamous invisible spear bug returns

One of the best examples of problematic hidden power is Fizz's W. On every hit, it applies a % missing health DOT to you. Even if you know how much the % is, you have no idea exactly how much damage it'll deal (because let's face it, nobody's going to take the time to do math when they're focusing on not getting killed by that annoying little fish). This is strong for 2 reasons: even if you take the time to figure out how much damage this tick will do, you have no idea how much damage the next one will do; and it enables the tank Fizz build because it means he can still do damage no matter how little AP he builds.

This is true. I saw a post complaining about the "hidden power" of Lee sin's ult scalings.

you are 4 seasons too late on that buzzword. many things were changed and reworked over it.

If it's an enemy you can't see them to check anyway, so it wouldn't help.

P.s

Runes, masteries, items, passives and base stats all have too much 'hidden power'. :^ )

Brutalitops012 votes

You can click on someone to see their stats. Even passives a lot of the time are very telegraphed, especially in recent years. For masteries, all it takes is pressing tab to see what keystone someone has, and from there you can easily guess at what the rest of their page probably looks like.

And you can see somebody's stats yet they are removing more aura items because they provide 'hidden power'. They are thinking about changing Shyvana's passive because armor and magic resist are 'hidden power'. It's another one of these game design buzzwords that is misused to the extreme.

I just use the Summoner's Companion App on my smartphone. During loading I just read up on my enemies for a quick refresher on what they do so I'm not surprised.
