I didn't care much about autofill, until recently

I know there is a lot of arguments on the autofill selection but I didn't really care much until last night, on my main account, I had a top laner who was autofilled there.

During champ select, he repeatedly told us to dodge because we were going to lose and waste 45 minutes of our time. None of us didn't really take it seriously.

He had Ashe preview selected as his top laner. We told him to pick a real top champion. He locks in Ashe, says "I main ADC," and proceeds to tick us off. "I told you to switch" was his next statement as well.....and he fed his butt off as well. We lost the game.

So autofill isn't much of a help in hindsight. It only breeds toxicity, and doesn't help the rest of the teammates who have to play with the troll who got autofilled and decides to troll like this because they didn't get the role they wanted. These trolls do crap like this, or:

  • Run down mid lane constantly dying
  • Ask to switch roles and if someone accepts, rudely takes a role away from someone that got the role they wanted first just so they get to play what they want and bypass the autofill
  • Pick off meta, such as champ for the role they wanted to play and use it in the role they were given.

Etc, etc.

I think Riot needs to give this autofill thing a good hard look at again because people are losing LP and games from this. Things were fine before. We didn't need this change, but typical Riot, they change things for the sake of change even though it's majorly disapproved of (like ranks for all roles, which was disapproved of but still was implemented anyway because they wanted to "try it out").

Is that really autofill... or people being unable to handle their emotions/expectations?

It's autofill.

I second Hethanlean's comment.

This isn't a problem with the system, this is a problem with that player's stubbornness.

The system is actually being redesigned to accommodate for skill differential for people autofilled into roles that they do not normally play.

This actually encourages player to improve in roles because the matchup should be more fair.

The player that you are describing was showing an unwillingness to even try to play the role that they were given in a serious way. They were more or less threatening your team to troll if you didn't take the dodge hit for them. Then because you didn't, they played poorly to "punish you"

Their behavior is unacceptable. I hope you reported them.

I misunderstood Hethalean. In this case yes it is the player's stubbornness, but other cases that happen with autofill can be because of the system and people not wanting to work with it.

The teammate was definitely unsportsmanlike and trolling to boot. It was late last night so I can't remember if I reported but I usually do with cases like this.

Well, as I said, this SHOULD encourage players to improve their skills in different roles, which should decreases the negative experiences caused by autofill.

Logically, if someone is placed against enemies of a similar skill level as their own skills in that off role, they are more likely to be successful and therefore less likely to tilt, troll, feed, afk, .. when they get autofilled in that role going forward, allowing them to improve their rank in that role as well.

Trolls are the issue, not autofill. You should get a 14 day ban for this.
