OH GOD MAKE IT STOP. I don't remember last preseason being like this. I'm sure there must have been some vitriol over the jungle changes. But, the game just feels completely out of whack all over the place this year.

Does anyone remember if the communities response to the preseason patch last year was this negative?

Last preseason ruined the jungle so the rage was contained to junglers, sympathizers, (edit: Warwick victims,) and people sick of seeing Lee since it's the utmost importance to make sure he has no issues with changes. This preseason ruined the entire game - it wasn't nearly this bad last year.

i can confirm that it wasn't this negative, it was fairly tamed when compared to this preseason. I believe it's mostly because there wasn't as many changes last preseason when compared to this one. I mean last preseason we had the jungle changes and that was about it right? this we have AD itemization in general, several mini ADC reworks, changes all over the map and items... It is way too much at the same time and the result is this unbalanced mess that result in one team stomping the other 80% of the time with next to no chance of a comeback.

At the bare minimum last preseason was a hell of a lot more fun to play in than this one currently is, I have seen even pros saying "fuck this game" and showing real rage at the current state of the game

I've been around to witness season 4 and 5 preseasons as well as this one. This current one is by far the most negatively received of all three. Junglers complained in the previous two since the jungle gets a new update every freaking year, but most concerns were dealt with in a timely manner. The support role in Pre4 was drastically changed as well, with the usual mixed reaction. But overall both years the players were genuinely excited and eager to see the new changes rolling out.

This year, it's a much different tone. I've never seen this amount of people saying things like "I'm leaving LoL" or "I'm going to play another game for a few months" and get upvoted for posting such things before. It's too many changes at one time, resulting in a greatly unbalanced mess that's barely playable in a serious manner. In the previous preseasons, any horridly unbalanced changes were brought into line quickly. This year, Riot seems content to let certain champions with certain items have all the fun.

Season 3 on the other hand with Cleaver stacking and mass changes invoked similar reactions.

"GG riot changed too much, im quitting" etc

Yes, it was like this last Preseason, except last Preseason only changed Junglers so instead of a % of each role complaining (except most ADCs), the entire Jungler role complained for a bit. Some laners also complained about Booty Hunter Warwick.

However, it is strange. There was about the same amount of complaint threads last Preseason, except last Preseason the complaint threads actually had a little more depth to them. All the complaint threads this Preseason are more "OMG I QUIT", or "GG GAME BAD", or "RIOT IS TERRIBLE, I DONE", rather than last Preseason, where more threads were like "Jungle ______ could use some help for ______ reasons" or "_______ item needs _______ changes".

I didn't have any problem with the last 3 preseasons, but then again, I didn't spend nearly as much time on the boards either so I can't be sure people weren't upset. Junglers were ususally a little miffed because they've changed the jungle every season, but there was much less "I'm quitting league."

Personally I think this preseason is terrible both because the incredibly weak towers make comebacks really rare and games much shorter, and because the new masteries are very abusable on certain champions and lame on others. For instance Deathfire touch is incredibly OP on Brand and Malzahar, while quite weak on most other champions (hence Brand and Malz's high winrates despite the cost increases of their core items). Rageblade is also too strong on certain champions (like Jax).

Welcome to League of Legends, where we invent an entirely new game every year starting now.

Last years preseason was nowhere near as bad as this. Not even close.

Last preseason was fun to play and figure out even in the jungle. This time around its just plain bad right now. There is no balance. It seems that riot wants to have a snowball game. The talent trees remind me of wow(thanks ghostcrawler), I stopped playing that game because it became broken. So many of the recent changes remind me of the things blizzard did when ghostcrawler was on that dev team. Many many bad things happened to a game I loved to play and made the game no longer fun to play. Ghostcrawler seems to be taking the same path here. Blizzard lost thousands of subscribers due to his changes it seems riot may too. Only difference you don't pay for this game each month.

Im not sure why, but I've run into a lot more ragers and griefers this preseason compared to other preseasons. That might be due to me playing solo more than i had in the past however.
