Sick and tired of smurfs...
And I'm not talking about fighting them, though that sucks too, I'm talking about having them on my team. I've had several even in the past week, but there are two, both within the last 24 hours who really stick out. First one who last picked Nocturne "support." He stayed in bott lane for, not even kidding, less than two minutes. We get forced to back because, well, Nocturne supp doesn't work, after which he proceeds to roam all over the map and be anywhere and everywhere but bott lane. He ends up getting a couple kills, snowballs, and proceeds to carry the game. With that said, we still only barely eak by with the win. In the mean time, I spend the entire laning phase stuck under my tower trying not to die. And the tower is gone by like 4 or 5 minutes into the match.
Case number two is a guy who I actually ended up having on my team twice in two days. We get into champ select and the first thing off his keyboard both times are, "I'm going jungle." Not, "jungle pref," or maybe, "hey, anyone mind if I jungle." First game, he was last pick and someone else had already grabbed jungle. They get forced into top lane because he says something to the affect of, "I already said I'm jungle, I'll duo jungle if I have to, but I'm jungling." The original jungle ends up conceding at the last minute, but is understandably pissed for the rest of the match. In the mean time, said smurf comes, makes some amazing plays, and then afk's for a while. Then he comes back, rinse and repeat. He gets super fed while the rest of us struggle so whenever he leaves, we end up losing a ton of objectives. We win, but again, only just barely.
Same guy, day two, same exact thing. He's low in the pick order and picks a jungle even though we have one. This time, we have Trist in top lane (first pick) so despite this guy being a jerk, I figure our original jungler can go top and Trist can come bott with me. So I last pick supp. Only, that's not what happens. Trist goes top and we have two junglers. And now I'm stuck in bott lane by myself on a support champion. We lose this match. And then the afore mentioned smurf has the nerve to claim that the guy who first picked jungle was trolling.
I also happen to know personally know a guy who smurfs. He's a platt player who has a bronze account. Every time he gets up for promo's, he purposely loses. Think about that for a little while.
The whole point of playing a ranked game is to compete against your peers and try to climb the ladder. Whoever has a smurf on their team, albeit one who isn't trolling, has a tremendous advantage and the other team is nearly guaranteed a loss. That in and of itself is incredibly frustrating. After all, we don't let major league baseball players into little league matches. It completely defeats the purpose of having a game.
Second, I find it can also be an incredibly frustrating experience to have one on my team. A lot of them are very arrogant and look down their noses at their teammates. They also seem more likely to troll because, let's face it, they've got nothing to lose. They obviously aren't there to try to climb the ladder, so what difference does it make if they lose. And even if they're decent and treat their fellow players with respect, it still kills the game experience. The whole point of playing ranked is to try to climb the ladder and, ultimately, learn to be a better player. It's to get into a game with people around your skill level and try to beat them. Where's the fun in getting some Vayne smurf who comes in and annihilates everything. What do you get out of that experience?
I served my country during Iraqi freedom. I have a 4 year old daughter and have literally been around the world. I'm also a bronze player in LoL. And I'm fine with that. Call me a scrub, tell me I suck, regard me as a noob, or a tryhard, whatever. I like to compete and I like the challenge. And if my LoL skills never take me out of bronze, so be it. My pitching skills will never put me into major league baseball, either. But I don't enjoy having my game experience ruined by some 16 year old LoL prodigy who has yet to graduate high school. And when I've paid money out of my own pocket to play this game, as many bronze players have, we deserve a better experience.
Too blind , didn't see .
