Sick and tired of smurfs...

And I'm not talking about fighting them, though that sucks too, I'm talking about having them on my team. I've had several even in the past week, but there are two, both within the last 24 hours who really stick out. First one who last picked Nocturne "support." He stayed in bott lane for, not even kidding, less than two minutes. We get forced to back because, well, Nocturne supp doesn't work, after which he proceeds to roam all over the map and be anywhere and everywhere but bott lane. He ends up getting a couple kills, snowballs, and proceeds to carry the game. With that said, we still only barely eak by with the win. In the mean time, I spend the entire laning phase stuck under my tower trying not to die. And the tower is gone by like 4 or 5 minutes into the match.

Case number two is a guy who I actually ended up having on my team twice in two days. We get into champ select and the first thing off his keyboard both times are, "I'm going jungle." Not, "jungle pref," or maybe, "hey, anyone mind if I jungle." First game, he was last pick and someone else had already grabbed jungle. They get forced into top lane because he says something to the affect of, "I already said I'm jungle, I'll duo jungle if I have to, but I'm jungling." The original jungle ends up conceding at the last minute, but is understandably pissed for the rest of the match. In the mean time, said smurf comes, makes some amazing plays, and then afk's for a while. Then he comes back, rinse and repeat. He gets super fed while the rest of us struggle so whenever he leaves, we end up losing a ton of objectives. We win, but again, only just barely.

Same guy, day two, same exact thing. He's low in the pick order and picks a jungle even though we have one. This time, we have Trist in top lane (first pick) so despite this guy being a jerk, I figure our original jungler can go top and Trist can come bott with me. So I last pick supp. Only, that's not what happens. Trist goes top and we have two junglers. And now I'm stuck in bott lane by myself on a support champion. We lose this match. And then the afore mentioned smurf has the nerve to claim that the guy who first picked jungle was trolling.

I also happen to know personally know a guy who smurfs. He's a platt player who has a bronze account. Every time he gets up for promo's, he purposely loses. Think about that for a little while.

The whole point of playing a ranked game is to compete against your peers and try to climb the ladder. Whoever has a smurf on their team, albeit one who isn't trolling, has a tremendous advantage and the other team is nearly guaranteed a loss. That in and of itself is incredibly frustrating. After all, we don't let major league baseball players into little league matches. It completely defeats the purpose of having a game.

Second, I find it can also be an incredibly frustrating experience to have one on my team. A lot of them are very arrogant and look down their noses at their teammates. They also seem more likely to troll because, let's face it, they've got nothing to lose. They obviously aren't there to try to climb the ladder, so what difference does it make if they lose. And even if they're decent and treat their fellow players with respect, it still kills the game experience. The whole point of playing ranked is to try to climb the ladder and, ultimately, learn to be a better player. It's to get into a game with people around your skill level and try to beat them. Where's the fun in getting some Vayne smurf who comes in and annihilates everything. What do you get out of that experience?

I served my country during Iraqi freedom. I have a 4 year old daughter and have literally been around the world. I'm also a bronze player in LoL. And I'm fine with that. Call me a scrub, tell me I suck, regard me as a noob, or a tryhard, whatever. I like to compete and I like the challenge. And if my LoL skills never take me out of bronze, so be it. My pitching skills will never put me into major league baseball, either. But I don't enjoy having my game experience ruined by some 16 year old LoL prodigy who has yet to graduate high school. And when I've paid money out of my own pocket to play this game, as many bronze players have, we deserve a better experience.

So. I have a teammate who's a plat player. I'm the next highest solo q, at silver 5. Yes, most of my team is bronze in solo q.

Well, me and the plat player like to duo que sometimes. We do it because we develop synergy and such. But I obviously can't duo q with his plat account - and he has an account in silver. He respects pick order, doesn't troll the game, and plays to win. Does he carry the games? Sometimes, not usually - because he plays for the team as a whole, even when playing as a carry. In fact, he likes to call out everyone else for being awesome. Support and jungler did awesome? He calls them out on it, and makes sure that people get recognition for being awesome. He offers advice and help, and makes play calls from experience. They aren't always right, but it helps the whole team.

I know that this is an outside case. I'm not a fan of smurfs in general, but I also understand outside cases. I mainly wanted to point this out so this thread didn't become 'ban smurfs.' Honestly, I could care less about smurf or not smurf - I just want people who play with respect and treat others the same way.

LOL. You're bronze 4 complaining about smurfs.

No smurf would be in bronze unless they intentionally lose all their games and im pretty sure that there arent many of those. Even if they were they would have to intentionally lose more games to stay bronze otherwise they would quickly rank up.

Here's a fact about smurfs: They're skill-capped. Take pity on them for their miserable platinum ranking is as far as they will ever get. There are some exceptions to the rules of course, but people who are being arrogant about smurfing are not part of such.

With that being said, I feel your pain. The smurfs who play only for themselves at the expense of everyone else ruin this game for so many new players. The smurfs who start saying bronze, silver, gold, plat etc. as some kind of "status" are just as bad.

One day, so long as your work at it, you will hit platinum or better and realise that the only real difference between platinum and bronze is the ability to understand just how much you can get away with in any situation.

DefenderOfFaith11/25/2014, 9:22:11 PM2 votes

I don't think you really had a smurf, just some dip who does his own thing and your games turned out as they have incidentally.

A real smurf can carry any league of legends game from any real role. Can you imagine if a world famous adc, like say Looper, was in your bottom lane? His CS alone within like 10 minutes will have him so much gold that he'll be destroying both of you. Anyone in bronze or silver, easily. Ofc, he isn't going to get better that way, so I doubt we'll be seeing him in any of our games :) But the point is a real smurf would show you real gameplay abilities like you've never seen.

It sounds to me like they're just trolls going off and doing stupid stuff and saying they are higher rated when they really aren't. People actually buy accounts for exactly this purpose. It's pretty sad :)

I really wish riot went out of their way to detect these shitheel smurf's main account and banned those doubly as hard as their Smurf. I'm so sick of these losers going "ban me lelelel I'll just play on my main".

Smurfs are either losers who can't compete in their own division so they stomp in bronze to feel good, or permabanned kids back for revenge, they add nothing to this game except misery.

I'm sick of seeing smurf accounts to. Can't Riot do anything about this like make a rule if you smurf you get both accounts perma deleted? With a month or longer Ip ban?

I mean yeah couple of plat/gold/even challenger smurfs come on my team and we win a ranked match good for me right? NO! I just got carried to a win, that means I learned nothing and didn't earn the win myself. It also means that the other team got cheated. Of course I want to be the #1 ranked challenger. However I don't want to be the #1 fake ranked challenger. I'm silver right now and may never be in the challenger rank, but thats not the point. The point is I want to get there fairly and honestly. I want to be able to say it was my skill, teamwork, and leadership that got me to challenger.

With the smurfs screwing ranked up that will never happen. I purpose players group up who have this common problem and dream and send direct support tickets to Riot to stop this injustice!

Now is the time for a new Independance day!!!!

Unfortunately, the entire discussion is moot unless Riot can come up with a way to accurately detect smurf accounts and disable them without also denying people the ability to have more than one person in any given household hold a legitimate single account.

HydraVenom11/25/2014, 1:44:57 PM2 votes

Who really cares? People want to troll and beat baddies like you (not saying your bad though, was an example) this is my smurf... but its not level 30 yet, when it is 30 you best be believing I'm going to make people lose every ranked game. item 3070 Ahri item 3070

Caoil11/26/2014, 1:30:20 AM1 votes

I think it's less them being a smurf and more them being an asshole. Most of the time when I'm playing with someone claiming to be a smurf and refusing to go anywhere but a certain role, they most definitely are not a smurf and are just trying to troll.

Colgate Minuette11/25/2014, 1:33:33 PM1 votes

Sooooo you're complaining about winning?

Also, you haven't paid money to play this game. You've payed money to get skins and such maybe but not to play the game.

You want a better experience? Play the 14 hours a day the challenger rank players do and you'll have some fun.

You didn't need to sell us some sob story on how you've served your country and all this shit. You're not good at the game. so when you see someone doing better then you get upset. No wonder you're in bronze. You've been blaming your team mates for your mistakes.

That Tistana who went top lane? Your deaths in bot lane were not her fault. You should have locked lane in front of tower and stayed in tower range to farm.

In final point:

Report the smurf who's purposely losing bronze games, he helps no one. That's just to help his own ego by stomping all over bronze players.

Stop blaming your team mates, your mistakes are no ones fault but your own once you get in game.

Hooh For a second though it's ARAM related and almost upvoted. Don't take me wrong: matter might be really annoying, but i don't play SR pvp, thus i shouldn't comment.

If it's about ARAM on other hand.. Then yeah smurfs should die. Literally.

I hope your words will reach some important ppl sitting on their golden chairs in Riot office.

i agree it's dumb

but there's really no way to stop it, unfortunately.

Wow you cant beat a 16 year old. Such trash.

crosin111/25/2014, 8:06:16 PM1 votes

I will admit to having a smurf account and that some games i tip the scale toward my teams to win the game . But that being said my account is level 10 so i cant screw with people who are trying to get their ranking, i see a smurf as something that shouldn't exceed a certain level. I use my smurf to play with my friends who just started, i always am filling what ever roll is needed and just try to be passive and farm. I just stay in lane and hold it unless someone asks me to do something. I do this to help my friend learn the mechanics of the game i give suggestions on build items or when to take dragon over a tower. Granted i know that this can be bad for people on the other team playing against someone who has been playing longer and has more experience, so i try to play it very rarely. Feel free to leave your thoughts hate or whatever you feel like is necessary.

To stay in Bronze they must have to intentionally throw a lot more games than just promos. To get to Bronze they must have purposely lost many many games in a row.

Smurfs are not a problem in this game, only people who are intentionally ruining peoples games. An actual smurf not just someone who is trolling will rapidly rise to near their correct rank.

BlackRaven11/26/2014, 12:11:02 AM1 votes

most of the smurfs actually try to climb.. i have 2 smurfs that i work my ass off on. i have never trolled or done anything wrong. i have never gotten a ban on them. i purposely play just to get better at different roles and champions. not everyone wants to be a troll. currently one of them is gold 1 and the 2nd is gold 3. just because you have them on your team doesnt mean all of them are the same.
