@Meddler, For the upcoming Garen changes you mentioned..

(Or the changes some Rioter mentioned, not sure who)

What about if Garen's passive healing began to generate for as long as his W was active?

That would be pretty neat, and definitely fits into his "Never surrender/back into the fray!" theme with a burst of energy like that. Would also give people the choice of playing him offensively and maxing Q second for the speed/damage, or W for the tank and being able to stay alive longer.

Or what about, if he uses his E while his Q is active (and un-used), he silences everybody that he hits? A little stronk, but it's just a suggestion.

Personally I'd love to see his ult continue to cast if he dies, though, but I know that'll never happen. :c

This is a cool idea, I suggest you hold onto it and post it to the next "Gameplay Thoughts" post Meddler makes. He usually keeps his responses to gameplay and balance questions confined to those discussions now.

I have a great idea for a Garen rework:

Q now silences 2.5 sec. W now gives 35% tenacity for its duration + the dmg reduction. E now doesnt do less dmg when spinning in multiple enemies. R now gives no villain mechanic anymore, so Garen can finally rely on more than RNG.

Kind of feels like we had such a great champion already, but then riot decided to rework him into a RNG based useless champion.

The issue that most people have with Garen is that his entire kit feels like a negative feedback loop. Most Juggernauts have a positive feedback loop (a way to sway the balance and gain an advantage), which is basically outplay mechanics (oh shit darius got the heal, illaoi got a 3 man r, resets, omg they heal so much). Garen, though, can't use his passive in battle. Negative feedback loops like this don't reward good Garen players. They are padding for players that need it, which, typically, good Garen players don't make good use of his passive if they're winning lane. It's like great job, you're winning lane, and now, have fun never making use of a passive that does less the better you are at being a Juggernaut (melee damage carry).

Those are some really cool ideas. I'm not too fond of the villain mechanic, but Garen needs some way to make him have a bit more depth than a brick.

I really like the E Q silence idea. It could last for .75 seconds (enough to disrupt most channels). There could be other spell combos too. Such as W Q reduces the damage of the enemy hit. E W reduces damage from projectiles.

I think they should just scrap the passive altogether.

It just encourages an in-and-out poke style that's unfitting of a juggernaut.

i wish theyd just make a designated tutorial champion for reach role intended for only learning so champions like garen and annie can be freed from this stupid THEY'RE NEWB CHAMPS THEY GOTTA BE SIMPLE AND EASY argument that holds them back from having more interesting and deeper kits.

Spoofghoul5/5/2017, 9:39:33 PM2 votes

Yes Yes i like these idea's

I once posted something, long time back, about Garen changes too

Like what if his passive was an aura, basically Heimers aura but different it would scale with Garens regen obviously his base regen would need to be adjusted for that so he can properly use it

His spells all have some effects to them already and anyone in the aura would gain some of these benefits as well like a speed boost when Garen uses Q or temporary defenses if he uses W Or Deal bonus damage with E Using ult gives all the bonuses and they stack with the normal bonuses

Simple things where allies can ''follow'' Garen who leads his allies to victory on the battlefield

Doesn't over complicate anything keeps kit the same but allows Garen to be a better team fighter

But i like your ideas as well, even better actually ^^

If you do that he basically becomes to Dr. Mundo what old Sejuani was to Amumu.

another idea i had was

w: garen's armor glows and he takes reduced damage

new: during the active component if garen takes a certain amount of damage that passes a threshold he can than reactivate w for a few seconds to release a bright aoe blast around him doing (dmg/blind/slow)

think like a item 3053 but the dmg threshold only happens during his w armor glow

I personally would like to see his rework completely reverted. He was in a healthier state back then. And had a better identity of lane bully that needs to get ahead or falls off, compared to now which is professional shut down artist.

Also Villain is just a poorly done mechanic taking up a large chunk of Garen's power budget with almost no counterplay and no way for Garen to influence it.

I read somewhere about a similar idea for garen: when he hits enemy-champions with his E, he gets stacks after his E, his passive (or an other over time heal) starts (even if in combat) and consumes his stacks. so the more enemies he hits and the longer he hit them, the more he heals

Shahamut5/6/2017, 2:28:23 AM1 votes

Garen needs some other form of cc than Silence... He doesn't even need a large lead in lane to make Q,E, Ult a surefire kill in lane lvl 6. Not being able to flash, dash or cc him for 1.5 seconds feels like forever as he dreidels you to death...

junglerboy165/6/2017, 2:42:00 AM1 votes

The ult casting even if he dies mid cast would be very strong, but at the same time I feel it's actually thematically valid, since he's calling on the magic of the demacian army to smite down the villain. All he does is point out who to hit, they do the rest (he's not actually a wizard, despite what the memes may have told you)...

Paroe5/6/2017, 2:56:05 AM1 votes

Garen is a splitpush juggernaut though... He doesnt excel in team fights, he doesnt excel in roaming, he doesnt excel in killing champions.

Garen excels in staying in lane, running away, and splitting. He gets his kills from all-ins after hes poked someone down or from executes.

Vectros5/6/2017, 9:23:14 AM1 votes

Ok, what's the source of this Garen post? I must know.

Zerenza5/6/2017, 10:17:35 AM1 votes

For suggestions their good but garen's reason for being so weak is because his kit has some...rather unhealthy parts in it. His silence especially, his targeted true damage ultimate that also has a really high base damage is another. It should never be AOE by the way because Juggernauts do not need targeted true damage ultimate's and ESPECIALLY not silences, they get nerfed for it, unless your Darius.

If i were to change him i'd rather his passive be completely reworked, the passive health regen should be on his W and scale with his W's level so he has to chose to have more passive healing or be better at trading in lane.
