Why does One-ForAll have "Majority" votes?

Noraver··164 votes·4,727 views

Why is it that when I queue for One-For-All, the triple queue automatically gets to play whatever they want? Why is it not just 20% chance per player? Why should I be forced to play a specific champion and have literally zero percent chance to play mine (The client actually just says "Majority Vote, 0%)? That doesn't seem fair at all.

You see, I also have issues with this Majority in a Lottery Vote because "lottery" means there are odds. Locking out the odds because 3 people pick the same champ no longer makes it a lottery, and plus it defies math. Here's how math, and a lottery, works:

100%/5 = 20% Each player, therefore, should have a vote weight of 20%.

If 3 players pick Yasuo, their combined vote weight is 60%. That means there is still 40% vote weight unaccounted for. If the other 2 players pick Caitlyn and Jinx, there vote weight should be 20% each. So the lottery odds should look like this: 60% Yasuo 20% Jinx 20%Caitlyn

What this SHOULD mean is that Yasuo is 10% more likely to be picked over Caitlyn or Jinx combined. What this SHOULD NOT mean is that Caitlyn and Jinx are never picked, because the math still allows for them to get picked, albeit at lower odds. The current system is utterly stupid, and whoever designed the math calculations needs to go back to school and re-evaluate his or her life as a programmer.

But majority pick works in the way of there are 5 people in the game 3 vote a certain champ 2 vote another. So they out number the other two by 1 same process as surrendering a game. The majority gets the pick while minority is forced to follow along bad system but thats how it works so just go with it.

But that's not how a lottery works, which is what the pick system calls itself. Even so, if 5 people choose different champs, there are odds for all 5 to be chosen. By that logic, which clearly whoever designed the pick system is not using, there should still be odds for 2 other players' picks if 3 pick the same champ. There is no sense in having a lockout on a lottery pick system. The same probability rules that apply in one scenario should apply in all scenarios. People not playing in premades should have some chance to play champions that the premade doesn't pick.

But then why should is 4 people, regardless of solo or a group want to play Zac, why should that one person override them and get to play Heimerdinger? Its unlikely, but it can still happen and wouldn't make much sense.

so that if you pick a shit pick like MasterYi Yasuo Katarina the rest of the team can overrule you to save themselves from your shit pick

nobody should be forced to play a shit pick when they can agree on a better one, basically any one

Funny you say that, because I just dodged a queue where a triple queue insta-locked Yasuo. So I get punished for saving myself from that shit pick?

yes, that's what you get for queueing alone

He's not a shit pick, most people just can't first time high-skill champs and it's basically an instant loss.

because you're highly unlikely that all 5 players in the game are actually good at Yasuo, and a shit Yasuo still feeds. His early game is still weak even if his kit overall is awful to play against.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

early game weak? His lvl2 for example is one of the strongest powerspikes in the game. LeBlanc tops everyone in that regard. His early game is slightly above average depending on the match up.

Giga Kahuna4 votes

have you uh got any sort of source or something to back up anything you've just said

Noam Braumsky3 votes

Just wondering, how do you source something like that? Sounds like an opinion or an observation to me.

Giga Kahuna1 votes

"His lvl2 for example is one of the strongest powerspikes in the game." doesn't sound like an opinion to me sounds like he's saying yasuo has an early power spike and i'm asking where he gets that from

Noam Braumsky1 votes

Idk, if I said pizza was the best food ever it's considered an opinion. Most would observe its taste and create their own conclusions, and its taste is unquantifiable.

Giga Kahuna1 votes

taste is subjective when a character in league of legends is at their best isn't

Noam Braumsky1 votes

Then show me the data.

Giga Kahuna1 votes

..what i don't have to "show data" to explain what an opinion is

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Rather an observation yes from playing with and against yasuo and discussing with high elo yasuo mains but in those cases u just CAN'T "source" it. Everyone may feel it differently. Maybe u have to calculate the DPS a certain champ can bring to the table and compare it. But i stated my reasons above so if you are interested just read it :)

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Would u need a source when i tell you LeBlanc has the strongest early game powerspike at level 2? No? So why would u need it here? Experience with and against yasuos, discussing with high elo yasuo mains etc. Don't know why y'all consider yasuo weak early? Despite him building (usually) as melee ADC yasuo's double crit feature brings him into the position to be a lategame carry during midgame even falling of late since there isn't much to grow for him anymore except more AD and penetration maybe.
So in that regard he is rather an assassin considering his early-midgame powerspike. So like everyone accepts LeBlancs lvl 2 powerspike the same is with yasuo. There he has his crazy mobility, dmg and knock up. His usual enemies are tanks or mages both who are only bursty or wet noodles. So while they might have strong dmg they have nothing to bring to the table after that. Yasuo can either avoid all their skillshots or survive enough to fight them down. That's why i consider his lvl 2 his first powerspike.

Giga Kahuna1 votes

at level two he's going to be in lane with no (or near none) crit chance how is one of his strongest traits what gives him his "lvl 2 powerspike" when that trait isn't doing anything at level two

not to mention his main damage source is on a 6~ sec cd at level two compared to a 2~ sec cd later into the match, and said "crazy mobility" relies on minions, it's not something akin to riven having 4 dashes in any direction at level two

this is why i'm asking for a source, everything you're saying is just "he has x and x" without realizing he has all of that and more later into the game, yasuo's damage doesn't fall off enough to make his early game more favorable than his late game

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

You realize that u entirely miss the point when you say "more of it later in the game" when talking about lvl 2? His lvl 2 has nothing to do with what he has later in the game. He has no 6 sec CD on his Q lmao. At this point it makes no sense further discussing with you if you don't even know the numbers you are talking about. He has a fix 4 sec CD scaling with AS. Every yasuo has AS runes so it's rather 3-3,5 secs. Read my post again.

And don't forget they are immobile af.

Giga Kahuna1 votes

the four second cd is the only thing that i can believe from you

don't forget practically every mage has cc and mid/top also harbor assassins

you also ignored the fact that his dash relies on minions, his cd is down to 2~ seconds later in the game and

at level two he's going to be in lane with no (or near none) crit chance how is one of his strongest traits what gives him his "lvl 2 powerspike" when that trait isn't doing anything at level two

don't act like i didn't read your post when you definitely ignored everything in my post but one cooldown i got wrong

banking your entire argument on a single mistake is stupid

It's because he's actually difficult to play, despite what people say. So when you force four people who have never picked up Yasuo in their lives to try and play him, it is a disaster.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

Actually got into a One for All match where a 3-man premade locked Yasuo, and we won because the enemy locked in Jinx.

Evewynn6 votes

Good point.

Counter point: if the majority of players want to play champion x, but champion y is picked, then the majority is disappointed. However, if the majority all choose Champion y, then more people will be satisfied than those who chose champion x. Objectively speaking, there is a higher amount of satisfaction with letting the majority get their champion because they gain more than what is lost by the minority players in the queue.

Does it feel great for the minority? Probably not. But it is arguably better for 1-2 people to be dissatisfied than 3-4.

You make a valid point, but i think riot should just make it random. This evens out the odds for everyone to either get the champ of their choice or not. They should make it so that only one person selects a specific champ (gets grayed out to the rest) and from the 5 different champs, the lottery rules apply.

Jinotad6 votes

Personally, I do not mind the majority vote, IF there is no 3+ premade. If there is one, then there should not be a majority, unless someone outside of the premade is a part of that majority.

its not a democracy, it claims to be a lottery. in a lottery, you cast a ballot and its picked randomly. right now it should not be called a lottery pick

Obscene Elbows2 votes

I think that if 3 people vote for, say, Yi then it should be a 60% chance so that people who solo queue have at lease a small chance of playing who they want. Dicking around with weird champs like Yorik or Bard can be fun and all but i would like to have some say in the choice. Either that or bring back solo queue but we all know how riot feels about that :(

Because if you can make 3 out of 5 people happy guaranteed, why would you risk only making 1 of them happy? I would even say a plurality (pick with the most votes) of 2 votes should be just as good a majority. Except there would problems with gaming the system, like switching your vote at the last second to make a plurality, with no chance to counter.

Shynkle2 votes

The point is it's called a lottery pick but isn't one at all.

Let's assume that the aim of the voting system is to keep people as satisfied as possible with the end result.

With the current system, by automatically giving the majority (generally three people) their pick, those people are guaranteed to be satisfied. The developers believe that it is better to satisfy three people and override the other two than to give everyone a chance but have the possibility of four people unsatisfied.

I am not saying that it is the ideal system; I am presenting this from the developer's point of view. It is certainly unfortunate for people who have no chance against a triple queue, but in that case, at least those three are satisfied.

(I myself often queue in a party - we rarely agree on the same champ anyways so we end up individually picking the champs we think are best)

Galihan1 votes

At the absolute least, if a majority vote is to be a thing, it should be 4/5 players agreeing on the same champ so that it's treated the same as when a surrender vote is passed, or, as has been said by other people here, the majority isn't by a premade.

DemainaNyx1 votes

I agree with this idea. If 4/5 people want to play said champion, fine, maybe at least one of them will have some idea how to play this champ then.

So tired of the "let's play Lee Sin" comp where no one knows how to play him let alone understand that good team comp for all-for-one is some mix of good cc, high mobility, somewhat tanky, good damage, and AOE abilities. I've wrecked people as champions I've never played before because they had these things and I know that melee loses to range early so just stay safe until you can do something.

Pika Fox1 votes

Im less upset by this and more upset by premades that think Azir, Zed or Lee Sin are fun champs to pick for this mode.

Çhåryzård1 votes

I will continuously bump this thread till the day I die or till the day Riot changes this.

If 3 people pick the same champ, there should still be a 40% chance their champ IS NOT picked. Not "oh well majority so fuck this 'lottery' stuff". That's not how a lottery works.

Unless every single person picks the same champ, there should still be a chance that the majority champ is not picked. Everyone's vote should count, not get thrown away after 3 votes are the same.
