To be honest I think the IE changes are okay actually.

>Recipe: [B.F. Sword + B.F. Sword + 1100 gold] Total Cost: 3700g Attack Damage increased from 70 to 80 [Removed] No longer increases critical strike damage. [New Effect] UNIQUE Passive: Doubles your critical strike chance. [New Effect] UNIQUE Passive: 20% of critical strike damage is converted to true damage.

I agree, the item seems really strong. Maybe too strong. But there is two things people don't give attention to.

First: its price. The item costs 3700 golds. I don't think you realize how much it is. With 3700 you can buy a zeal item and Boots of speed + Dagger. Someone buying a zeal item will be advantaged over someone building IE since he will have his item completed first.

Second: the item doesn't grant crits anymore, making it worthless alone, so literally useless to rush as a first item.

Counting this makes the item as strong as it first seemed.

the only person i can see buying this as a first item would be someone like tryndamere who gets crit easily early.

My main concern is if it actually is a nerf to the two item crit power spike. The spike costs an extra 500 gold and loses the 50% bonus crit damage, but it gains 10% crit chance and 10 ad (though it's more like 5~ with the base stat changes) on top of 50% 20% of crits being true damage. I haven't done the math so I'm not sure.

Edit realized that it was only 20% true damage.

the true damage conversion makes it much less threatening to squishies though so you won't get bursted down as hard by the enemy adc if they have IE now.

Although the one thing I'm curious about IE is if it's now worth rushing first on Tryndamere instead of going PD/Shiv as a first item. 70% crit chance (100 fury adds 35% crit chance so with this item alone you get 70)and 80 AD and true damage conversion on a champion that already runs true damage conversion through conquerer seems really threatening

I went ahead and tested it in PBE. The problem I was having with IE rush is that you don't start with crit chance, so it builds up much slower than if you were to just build PD or statikk first. The damage is certainly worthy, even with Conquerors.

Of course it is a nerf since it's what it's what Riot intended to do. They wanted to delay the powerspike of most marksmen.

NA Darklarik2 votes

That is until you think about the synergy it has with Yasuo and Tryndamere combined with Conqueror

Hextech OwI1 votes

The two champions will handle things differently.

Yasuo already reached 100% crit with two items. Minus the true damage on crit (which will make him stronger against tanky champions rather than squishy), he wont change too much as he will still be able to reach 100% with two crit items (may it be two zeal or zeal + IE).

Tryndamere on the other hand might be able to become a very powerfull champion. Since he has built in crit chances, he can buy the item and not have a disadvantage (since he is mostly played top and bruisers usually build Triforce which is 3733 golds). But similarly to Yasuo, true damage is stronger against tankier champions rather than squishies.

Doozku1 votes

Not IE, Tri.

Also Tri's price is really annoying lol.

Yasuo won't be coming online until at least 2 items now both of which have had their costs increased. So you can push yasuo's 0/10 powerspike to 0/15. If anything it's giving them an early game nerf in favor of better tank killing later on in the game.

hhaavviikk1 votes

why does it have to double crit chance? this allows ADC's to still be more effective early on, there is no need for that, they're late game hyper carries, they're supposed to come online late game not 20 minutes into the game, now they get infinity edge + shiv and get 60% crit chance, that's actually a buff to crit chance, they then buy rapid fire cannon and they got 100% crit chance with just 2 items, what we playing yasuo on every ADC now but without the downside?

TheGreatNinx2 votes

like he said. IT won't be an early on item. It offer no crit so it would be doubling nothing and that true damage won't happen till you get crit. To have this happen you will need two zeal items. which also got its cost increase and you might need LW before that. So it might be a last item purchase.

and why wouldn't it be? bloodthirster used to be rushed and that was done purely for the damage it gave, same can be done with infinity edge, zeal items give 0 damage, only crit and AS

ie is now similar to rabbadons which also is more of a 3-6 item. Both boost an original stat. Good that you mention bt cause healthreg and fleet footwork gets enrfed, maybe adcs need even early lifestealitems.

Hextech OwI1 votes

At least BT gives sustain with its damages. It isn't dependant on other items. Alone, IE gives nothing else.

ok zeal + infinity edge, problem solved, yo uget a zeal then rush the infinity edge and you will have 40% crit chance with just zeal alone

Hextech OwI1 votes

That's 5000 golds. It's still not worth rushing considering you have better options at lower costs.

and it currently costs 4600 gold, 400 gold difference, get basically the same stats since zeal would now give 40% crit chance with the new IE double crit passive, math has already been done showing that you don't even lose out on that much damage with the new IE true damage passive, I'll see it if I believe it really, unless I missed some items crit still seems the way to go for ADC's, especially now that you can even more easily reach 100% crit chance

I'll see it if I believe it

I know you meant it the other way around, but beware confirmation bias. :P

The problem with buying Infinity Edge as a second item is that it’s not gold efficient once you consider its 1,300 gold completion cost. Doubling your critical strike chance sounds nice, but there are several problems.

First, you’re doubling from 30% to 60% and doing 20% true damage on crit, which is great for taking objectives and killing tanks but not much else, since you’ll still not crit about half the time when poking, and you’ll be doing only 100% rather than 150% bonus damage. And true damage is worth much less against enemies with low armor.

Second, while critical strike chance is nice, you will need attack speed and attack damage to finish the trifecta. Spending 1,300 gold to finish Infinity Edge gives you none of these things. You’ll crit more often, but not often enough to change your play pattern much, and your crust won’t do much more damage than before you finished the item.

Third, for 1,300 gold, you could buy other things that would be more useful right away. Zeal, which would give you 20% Critical Strike Chance, 15% Attack Speed, and 5% movement speed, costs 1,300 gold. Upgrading your Boots of Speed to Berserker’s Greaves and get a pair of Brawler’s Gloves, which would give you 10% Critical Strike Chance and 35% attack speed and 20 movement speed and still have 100 gold left over.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Does it mean that Yasuo gets 4x crit chance with that equipped (aka 80% crit chance just from IE)?

Hextech OwI2 votes

The new Infinity Edge no longer give critical strike chances. Yasuo will have 4x crit chances with IE but will remain at 0% crit chance with IE only.

Stars Shaper1 votes

missed that change, thank you.

CudyDarkyz1 votes

I see it as a forced second buy more often you get like a siv or phantom dancer into IE so when you get ie it comes with 30% crit chance

Jaspers1 votes

Most ADCs don't rush it unless really ahead right? They get a BF, then a Zeal item, then finish the IE. It might make little difference in the end. I mean currently you want IE, ER, 2 zeals (or 3 zeals no ER) for 100 percent crit. Now you only need IE and 2 zeals freeing up space for life steal and armour pen as well as boots.

I guess the PBE testers will find out how it works out.... right? That's what it's for right? :P

We'll see :/

Marothennan1 votes

I don't get why zeal items got hit if IE's price was increased back to what it used to be tho Edit: checked and zeal items got hit by 200 gold instead of 100 like I thought wtf. So for a 2 zeal item build you have to spend 300+200+200=700 more gold. Either hyper scaling 50 min game meta or lethality meta is coming bois

Hextech OwI1 votes

To get 2 Zeal items, you only pay 400 more golds. The goal of this change is to delay the powerspike of marksmen. It's not going to be 50 minutes powerspike, rather a 30 minutes one.

Marothennan1 votes

Pretending 400 gold is not a lot when people were crying that infinity edge got cheaper by 300 gold lol. Also you forgot to mention that infinity edge also got more expensive by 300. Not my problem though. I'm not gonna bother playing ADC anymore. Cancer team peel reliant role and assassins are getting a new item.

Nyarlathοtep

Implying adcs cant abuse the new item.

Because giving Yasuo passive to these skilled champions : MasterYi Tryndamere and every damn ADC is a very good idea. Everyone likes Yasuo right because he is so damn fair to play against :P

Gamer Gallade1 votes

Im existed for the new item 3031 too but i fear that it will cause problems with Tryndamere as his first item because it will give him 60% crit chance if its his first item because of his passive along side with the new Stormrazor along side it.

A side from that, the new item changes will be fun to use for all kinds of champions.

I feel like IE will be a second item or a first item because of its raw 80 AD placed with it.

I know MissFortune is still going to be fun with the crit build and the new item 3508 is also a welcoming addition for her because of Q is really good synergy with her kit overall. This is coming from a Miss Fortune main that loves the crit build and not a massive fan of the lethality build.

Lets just hope these ADC changes work nicely for the health of the game.
