Thank you for the question! I would say what makes me better than everyone else on this particular map is my ability to know when to make plays or retreat. Generally if you dive head first into a fight, it is kill or be killed. There is little chance you can run away successfully. So picking your battles is incredibly important. I never go into a fight without at least 1 tentacle already spawned. And never fight multiple enemies without my ultimate up.

One other strategy I employ is I usually avoid initiating the fight to become ascended. Let the enemy team do all the work for you and exhaust their health and resources! Attack them from the fringe but try to stay out of range of Xerath so they take double damage. Then jump in at the last second to steal it. With becoming ascended is easy due to your w. Just make sure you spawn a tentacle on the rock above Xerath!
