Daily reminder that Haunting Guise is still rather expensive for a second tier item

GrReaper96··39 votes·1,158 views

item 3136 = 1600 gold Meanwhile item 3134 = 1100 g while also giving a rather peculiarly placed passive Another example item 3211 costs only 1200 g I would like to see item 3136 to be reduced to 1400-1500 gold. In return perhaps knock off the 50 hp gain.

item 3632 item 3632 item 3632 item 3632 item 3632

EDIT: I am NOT saying item 3136 isn't gold efficient im saying it costs too much as a second tier item, considering others range from 1100 - 1300 gold

Actually since it gives health as well as AP and magic pen, it should be worth more than the Serrated Dirk.

Based on the pure stat items, you can calculate how much gold any stat is inherently worth. Haunting Guise is worth 1637 gold in stats, and costs 1600 gold. That makes it 102.31% efficient, whereas Serrated Dirk is only worth 1100 gold, making it 100% efficient.

Thats because item 3134 is where the flat armor pen gold efficiency derives from, unlike flat magic pen which derives from item 3020. Similar to item 1053 or item 3067 you cant compare gold efficiency with items where gold stats are derived from.

haunting guise is 102% gold efficient, which is perfectly average for a tier 2 item. lol.

Im not really arguing about gold effeciency im arguing it takes too long to build for a second tier item. Other second tier items item 3133 item 3101 item 3057 item 3751 item 3211 cost much less. That why i also suggested nerfing it a bit to balance the gold cost.

I would go as far as to say, haunting guise is on the same level as Nedlessly large rod and BF sword.

You pay big sums of money for big stats, except in this case you can actually buy parts of the items first.

And mages have other cheap options if they need certain stats.

If they need HP they can get ruby crystal, if they need ap they can get tome/blasting wand (both of which build into liandaries) They can get 15 magic pen + move speed for 1100 gold.

So yes, haunting guise is expensive for a tier 2 item BUT its pointless to reduce its cost because of its decent build path and many other options ap champions have.

More over many champions derive their power spike from completing haunting guise, if haunting guise were to reduce in cost and loose stats many of theee champions would be shafted and it would create a fresh set of balance issues.

TLDR :

Haunting guise is fine as it is, its not a balance issue and there is no reason to change it.

Thats like arguing ADs could buy item 1028 item 1037 item 1036 as other options instead of item 3044 or tanks could buy item 1028 item 1033 item 1057 instead of item 3211 . Yes there are other options but that shouldn't make item 3136 a lesser option simply because its too expensive. And lets be honest hardly any champs get their power spike from item 3136 because unlike item 3134 item 3211 which build into item 3142 item 3065 , item 3151 is not a rush item because it deals % dot dmg and most champs are better of getting item 3116 first.

buying haunting guise and leaving it there, untill later into the game has been a very good rush option for many champions.

And my point stands- theres no need to change it. Its fine as it is.

They should just create a tier 1 item and improve the tier 2 and 3 items respectively.

Example: Leering Eyes: Cost 1,000 (Ruby Crystal 400 + Amp Tome 435 + 165 combine cost). Health 150, AP: 20, UNIQUE: Magic Pen: 5, UNIQUE passive: Eyes of Pain: Spells deal 1% of the targets current health as magic damage over 3 seconds. (notice it's 1% instead of 2%)

edit: magic pen doesn't have to be an option on this either, I just threw it in.

Also another thing item 3136 can only build into item 3151 while other tier 2 items item 3134 item 3086 item 3133 item 3211 item 3024 have much more diversity

Blumpkin Nation1 votes

You could create another item that'll build into 'Leering Eyes' and they combine into Haunting Guise.

IDK though. because the values aren't accurate right now and I'm not in the mood to be accurate. haha.

I rush this item in most mid lane malphite lanes

As a Rumble player, I'd be fine just getting rid of the HP completely and making it cheaper and I guess you could compensate whatever else on it, but I don't think it NEEDS the hp. When it is basically core for you to rush it as Rumble, it is just annoying. You have to sometimes take an awkward back if you don't want to fall behind in items fast, as you are still waiting for 300 gold to come in while someone already has like item 3133 or item 3155 or item 3052 or item 3211 and you are just sitting around trying to not get shoved in with item 1028 and item 1052 (hate that build path :s as Ruby feels so crap on Rumble 99% of the time).

The problem with Haunting Guise is that it's got three stats, where most have two. Remember, Guise used to be an item with no upgrades. The Brutalizer was also an early item with three stats, including damage and penetration, and it was straight up removed.

GrReaper961 votes

item 3024 item 3086 both have 3 stats, and if you include passive stat boosts item 3211 item 3044

The Yetii Rider1 votes

But none of those stats are penetration. Penetration is an immensely problematic stat, incredibly difficult to balance, really probably shouldn't be in the game except for Void Staff and Last Whisper, but it's been designed as a stat that assassins are bound to, and mages/marksmen just get to abuse it as well.

Don't even start. item 3151 is the next AP item that will be whined about after item 3116 and item 3152 get their nerfs.
