Is anyone actively preventing Thresh from gathering souls in lane?
During his release they made a big deal about tying thresh power to soul collection, yet I never notice a thresh being soul starved and weaker for it.

I don't know how you're supposed to zone Thresh out of the range of soul collection without risking to get hooked or CC'ed, especially when he could also just use his W to collect them souls.
This game has some "catch-22" champs, whose counterplay and counter solutions don't really exist because they're not practically viable, either because it's counter-productive or something along those lines, nigh impossible to pull off, or the champs themselves just negate their own supposed weakness.
This is the case for most of CertainlyT's champs.
Idk about "actively preventing" Thresh's souls, but a low soul Thresh is noticeably very squishy come 10-15 minutes in.
Yeah. Thresh players actively prevent themselves. It's CertainlyT's way of balancing champions, you counterpick and counterplay yourself.
I remember reading (when I was starting to fall for Thresh a year ago) that souls will increase in drop-rate if you're below average. But I can't validate it because I don't remember where I read it.
Even if you can deny them-- it's not worth trying with how dangerous a target he is.
Soul droprate increases if the past drop rate is below average. It just means the drop rate corrects itself to about 33%. If you deny the dropped souls, that doesn't mean Thresh will get higher drop rate because of it.
Makes sense =) ty
I think certain champs like Zyra/Brand/Karma actively prevent Thresh from collecting souls with ease. Despite being able to get them with his lantern, if you're tossing out a lantern to collect them every time, you lose the utility and shield of said lantern as well.
Any lane that forms a threat in the way of poke or all in for thresh, keeps thresh players sometimes at bay, Depends on the player, weighing risk/reward
imo souls should be more rewarding (maybe make all abilities scale off souls), but be harder to get (shorter duration and range).
I mean, they already kinda do. Souls give AP (and armor, but Thresh has no armor scaling abilities), W shield scales off souls, and E passive scales off souls also.
It often seems like Threshes don't even care, which could be partially because of a misunderstanding about how his souls spawn, since they have 100% drop rate on champs and large enemies but only a 33% on small minions and monsters.
The thing is it adjusts dynamically to make sure you're reaching quota, but the spawn rate adjusts off of how many have spawned per enemy death, not how many you've collected.
Good players are. The soul collection mechanic was a big part of why Thresh wasn't being played during the Zyra/Malzahar/Karma support meta of S6 worlds.
As long as the ADC is farming safely, Thresh can just toss a lantern out to suck up the souls that drop near enemy champions.
Again, CertainlyT champ that covers its weakness with its own kit.
Just like how Thresh has no escapes, but, wait, he hooks a nearby monster camp and he can magically dash over terrain!
Sensing a lot of unnecessary hate in this comment.

If he uses his lantern for so long collect that's a pretty good trade off.
I play soraka and I've poked out thresh players that make the mistake of going the
path.
the lack of raw base stats that they miss out on because they went for that item instead of actual flat health makes it really safe to win all-ins
but like if they actually build the relic shield and exhibit presence in the lane and their carry is competent at following up then at best it's like they miss 3-5 souls in a 40 minute game.
I do it in aram. Same with Dark harvest orbs.
If it doesn't mean I get super chunked out by doing so, yeah. And if I can't keep him away from them I try to turn it into a kill when the Thresh is particularly greedy.
It's almost never worth it to do so.
You're better off focusing on farm and trying to harass the enemy adc. The more you attack Thresh, the more you leave yourself open.
Unless you have good range. Zyra/Cait/Jinx can, but not Lucian/twitch.
I mean if he's losing it makes him lose harder so
Are you suggesting that another CT champion's counterplay is unviable due to their kit having innate ways to deal with its own counterplay??
Wat.
They work more along of coins. You can't zone him from them because he doesn't exactly have to be 'near' them. He just has to be outside of range of them and they come to him.
I have this thing where i snap out if my thresh doesnt have 70 souls at minute 20
Thing is armor is irelevant nowdays. So it doesnt matter if thresh has 200 armor or 100 he ll live 1 second longer at most
