Maybe its too early to say but, isn't AP Galio busted AF ?

I mean, he get's a shield based on his max health after being out of combat for some time, he has a 40% (plus scalings) damage resistance on his W that transforms into a mini-old-galio-ult and ALL his AP scalings are waaay to high for what they do ! I mean cmon in practice mode i got about 600 dmg Q, 700 dmg E dash (!), and 900 dmg ult big aeo ?!

hes actually really weak because he doesn't have an ult he can use for damage anymore.

he needs an additional rotation to kill anyone. which just raises the question "why play damage galio when XXXX does it significantly better."

who wants to land 4 skill shots when you can land fewer... or more reliable ones like annie.

Because Galio is a tank, not a mage.

except hes bad at tanking. leaving him in the gutter.

there are so many things i would take before i even considered galio. even if the enemy team is full AP damage.

i would play Maokai > DrMundo > Sejuani > Taric > Zac > all before i would choose galio.

and then after all of those get banned out. i would then ask "well what type of job do i need to do?" "maybe i can just pick up _____ instead and play a little differently"

Garen Gnar Gragas JarvanIV Nautilus Rammus Sion Renekton

yes, even rammus.

(where the only ones i left out are Volibear Warwick Skarner Malphite ShyvanaShen )

((thought about including shen in there but i'm just not feelin it))

Why would you pick two armor focused tanks into a full AP comp over the champion better designed for AP tanking?

Because I really can't see a reason beyond you just being very biased towards the rework to find a way to justify handicapping yourself like that.

Very Hard Engage2 votes

because its not about performing your role to its maximum effect. its about poking holes in the enemies team comp and creating favorable situations regardless of team comp.

a rammus still gets 120MR and still knocksup/taunts far more reliably than galio ever will

taric? hes the best burst denial in the game. hence effective against AP.

Ralanr2 votes

Neither of which have cross map transportation ults that can knock up multiple enemies if they don't dissuade them from chasing your ally. Rammus can also only focus one person, which is kinda a weakness when you consider how multi target tanks can actually be.

Not to mention that Rammus is getting a VGU eventually. So even his reliability will be weakened.

ive seen the potential of new galio. its just not reliable or effective.

you have to play significantly better than your opponent just to do your job.

Welcome to how tanks with high skill floors work. The club president is Sion, he will meet you shortly to discuss membership.

The overall problem with tanks is that their skill floor and ceiling are too low for how useful they are. They are too reliable, not something that really rewards you for investing time into them like mages or assassins (or pretty much any other class) beyond some exceptions.

This is what Riot is intending to change. Increasing the ceilings, making them less reliable but more rewarding if you take the time to master them.

Galio is an example of a potential future in tank design by your logic of needing to play better than your opponent.

the worst thing in the world is for a tank to go in, miss everything and then die or be able to contribute very little afterwards.

Amumu best example, misses his ult, hes baked.

that galio ult is just as bad as veigar cage, you have to be up against the disabled or have some 1hp singed bait to risk it.

its not a skill ceiling, especially with conditions you have no control over. like wind up times. its just poorly designed.

Which is what separates a good tank player from a bad one. A good tank player would either not miss or wouldn't have gone into a situation where he wouldn't have hit in the first place.

Amumu best example, misses his ult, hes baked.

And he's what Riot calls the most basic Vanguard, who is also so old that Riot admits he needs a full VGU rather than anything from the roster update.

Amumu just has his ult. I wouldn't pick him just for that because I offer nothing else if I somehow mess it up.

that galio ult is just as bad as veigar cage, you have to be up against the disabled or have some 1hp singed bait to risk it.

I honestly disagree here. The ult isn't just useful for saving someone, but also for actually getting you to the fight.

Having a tank be able to do that is pretty useful.

its not a skill ceiling, especially with conditions you have no control over. like wind up times. its just poorly designed.

Being able to adapt to situations is a skill. It also allows people to react better against you. It forces you to think about how you should approach it.

like "not go in", just sit back, wave clear. group up let someone else do it, then pile up on them.

when galio does go in its flash dependent or its very hit/miss.

#OLD GALIO HAD MORE PROBLEMS THAN THAT

My personal favorite is how he was a melee champion that didn't want to be in melee except when his ult was up. Even Rumble has to get into a threatening range to make the most out of his flamethrower.

Taric does not have anywhere close to the best burst denial in the game, considering you have to wait 2.5 s for that invulnerability. In fact it was purposely designed to be weak against burst.

Kayle's ultimate, for example, is a far better burst denial tool.

What bugs me about his rework is that they removed what made him unique. He was the only tank with a reliable heal. Other tanks like alistar, maokai, and zac have heals but they can't really rely on there heals to keep them alive.

You're right, it's too early to say.

I dont think its that bad. His abilities are all sort of skillshots and lategame the only people that much damage will affect is the squishy adc or supports. The only ap scaling I think is too high is his passive but this all is just my opinion.

Ralanr1 votes

It is too early to tell, but I don't necessarily disagree.

Tank Galio maybe.... AP no.

Unreformed Shaco1 votes

It was better before they changed his passive to scale AP and still had the AD bit.
