Let's talk about terrain generation mechanics

Anivia JarvanIV Azir Trundle

These champions are fun to play, in no small part because they can bring something to the team very few other can: Mobility Denial. However I'm sure many of you have noticed these (Azir's ult aside) aren't terribly amazing against the many dashes blinks and otherwise the game has at this point. Yes you can time it when their flash is on cooldown and what not, but why don't we brainstorm ways to add more interaction to their respective terrain spells so they can be used in more cases.

e.g. Anivia can re-cast her W for a no-damage 20% slow around the wall's area.

Anivia's wall would be stepping on Trundle's toes a bit if it slowed

How about we made Jarvan's ult... reset... on kills and as-- I just died

J4's ult resetting on kills. 100% ban rate.

I am of the opinion that dashing through Anivia's wall should apply the "Chilled" Debuff for 2 seconds.

Didn't you make a thread about that not too long ago? Or was it someone else?

Anyway, yeah that's been a popular idea and I can get behind that.

Indeed, was me :)

You forgot trundle.

Also, I don't fully understand what you are saying? Make it so people can't blink or dash though them?

I don't feel terrain-generating abilities have good use-cases with all the mobility, what else can we give them to allow a player to have more good uses for them without making them overbearing? <--effectively what I'm asking, if that makes sense

Ah, to be honest I think you are looking at it wrong. You should use terrain to counter mobility. A good example of this would be lets say you are ganking with J4. You run in, use your knock up and slow. Then if they touch any of their dashes THEN you ult. You hold onto those spells waiting for a dash to punish them for using it. The ability is more powerful when not on cooldown.

Also, be sure to yell "You activated my trap card Kaiba!" every time they try to get away. It helps.

100% agree with you. I'm not saying they're useless in any way, plays can easily be made with them. However I still feel their core aspect, making terrain, is incredibly underutilized. For example, in most cases, a J4 will use his ult for the leap and about 0.75~1 sec of keeping his target there. So why not just make it an AoE stun? Same result, more reliability.

Of course I'm not asking for a change like that, I'm just curious as to what other people may come up with for adding/buffing the unique aspect of those skills. Like, imagine if J4's ult walls were twice as thick but only in a half-circle behind his target? Or if Anivia's wall came in different shapes depending on what spell you last cast? Stuff like that.

I understand you are saying they are not useless. But why are you saying this? Because they are weak and need more to their kit? Or are you saying you wish they had more flashy effects? Such as they were more than just a circle or straight line.

More along the lines of less flat, more interesting to play with and against. Because while yes, plays can be made and they can insanely good at times a good J4 Ult or good Anivia wall is a "well I win/lose" when used right. No options for the opponent to play against (if they're mobility is down) and no way for the J4/Anivia to show skill past the simple logic of 'if blink down, press R/W'.

That's what I meant by more interactions. Because imho terrain creation can be one of the most creative skills used by a player if more options are allowed.

I just wish we had at least one blink proof ability in the game. Event Horizon would have been perfect for it, but they made it resist dashes instead.
