There are 5 champions with winrates over 57%

Champion.gg - League of Legends Stats by Champion Role for the Current Patch

I knew there were OP champs, but I actually found a lot of these mildly surprising. Let's see here:

DrMundo : Too tanky to be killed by overpowered ADCs, recently got buffs, hypersynergy with basically the entire Resolve tree Malphite : Direct ADC counter. Rammus : Direct ADC counter. Tryndamere : Hypersynergy with Warlord's Bloodlust, benefits from ADC itemization. Brand : INSANE synergy with Deathfire Touch.

Keep in mind, that's the winrate pre-nerf Ahri and Sej had back in S5.

Following them at 56% are: Anivia Graves Kayle

Then at 55% - 54% (the winrate pre-nerf Veigar had) we have: Zilean Shen Velkoz Trundle Chogath MissFortune Malzahar Annie Lux Volibear XinZhao Jax Hecarim Nautilus

What I've concluded from this: -We have way more OP champions than we realized. -These masteries are very, very prone to abuse cases. -Either the Resolve tree is bonkers OP, or tanks are having huge success because they're the only thing standing in the way of complete ADC domination. Or both. -Rageblade/Gunblade are definitely OP. On a related note Kayle's back to being stupid, which makes me wonder why she isn't reworked yet. -The AP masteries are bad on most champions, but when they work (3-hit combo mages, DoT mages) they are incredibly powerful.

Notes: -Just specualtion, but I think that the champs at the top are actually far more powerful than their winrates suggest. There are actaully enough OP champs that it's hard for one to get a crazy winrate in the 60% range because another OP champion or two is almost always on the enemy team. -A "worrying trend": Heimerdinger, a champion almost specifically good at stomping SoloQ and only played by dedicated mains, is at 50.5% winrate.

"OMG TANKS WILL BE UNVIABLE"

Boards overreacting as always.

The only thing that stopped tanks from being unkillabe was last whisper, now you build thornmail and some random armor item and adcs can't do shit.

tfw 57% winrate

most likely cause people forget item 3123 exists now. I had one game with a mundo so far, and he did nothing at all as two guys bought executioners...

edit: played mundo one game my self, the teemo i faced top rushed liandrys, which is a poor item to rush vs mundo as i first go for mr rather than hp, and it only procs on his shrooms, and he didn't get morellos alo game long. Both vayne and kindret couldn't find executioners in the shop(the only logical reason for them to not buy it, seeing that i and olaf hwere big problems in the midgame) only their annie got morellos, and she usually died/run away befor i reached 40%...

So my assuption seems to fit, as i didn't face GW at all as mundo, and could literally go where mundo pleases duering midgame. Lategame, i dropped rather fast(well, kinda to be expected vs kindret+vayne), but due to our vast advantage we could still close the game However, if that kindret would have had executioners, midgame would have bee a totally different thing, as i did really rely on that ult in order to stay alive and bait the opponents into our team while getting away with next to no health left...

Also, a lot of people are slow at letting go of the TP meta. I think as we see more people going back to ignite top his winrate should fall back down a bit.

OyddAWqJ5r3 votes

Way ahead of you. The moment TP was nerfed I was like fk yeah Ignite it is.

ProExpertKing1 votes

So bascily you guys are talking about changing the meta back to a point where the only people who would ever pick Mundo are trolls. Cause there are a lot of items that makes him useless, just people don't get them. Also 15% summoner cooldown from masteries + Ionia boots with distortion

OyddAWqJ5r3 votes

Not our fault grievous wounds is complete bullshit. I get ignite for the damage, it just so happens to also be the counter to all things mundo.

Dessem3 votes

I realised during the lategame that I could buy this item and punched myself over it.

I mean, I was just against a Shen, but it still felt bad that I had the perfect counter readily available and just never used it.

Verxint2 votes

It's the fact that LDR and mortal reminder are shit items except in their ideal enviornments.

If you're being forced to buy one you lose overall damage output.

Auz the Ripper12 votes

Mundo Is the ideal environment for mortal reminder, He builds a good bit of armor and he relies on regeneration The only way it could be more tailored against him is to let it combine with BotRK to make "Mortal Blade of the Ruined Reminder King"

Robert Smith6 votes

did you forget this mastery? +50% regen, 200% regen when below 20% max health. When below 20% health Mundo stills heals above normal even with summoner 14

Sire Hippington3 votes

regen, not heal. the masterie only reffers to his base hp/5, not the ulr or anything else. so at 18, 2-8 hp/sec on mundo, not really broken, i'm pretty sure the old preservarance with the %missing hp regen did just as much...

Earl Eulrich6 votes

Mundo just snowballs like a mad man if you´re not used to facing him due to his permaslow+really high basedmg - so in a snowbally environment experienced Mundo-players have a rather easy time winning...especially as most more seasoned Mundos still use him more as a counterpick to tankier champs that really won´t be rushing executioners.

If you look at his winrate it really falls down fast if games last longer.

The reason it starts to fall is because of team fights. The best counter to Mundo is to 1v5 him.

I thought the best counter was to treat him like Singed in a teamfight and completely ignore him while you kill the rest of his team?

Around mid game maybe. Late game ADCs and AD assassins will melt you as a tank no matter how much defense you built. Obviously in a 1v1 scenario most ADCs would have trouble with a tank, but they should if they're in melee range. This is team game.

The only exceptions to this are like Rammus and Malphite (due to how their kits work). That or a VERY late game Sion, who pretty much transitions into a fighter if the game goes on too long. Most games don't last nearly long enough for that to happen though.

Rageblade is broken. Gunblade is not

Wheatloaf11 votes

Rageblade makes gunblade broken.

Count Zubat8 votes

I don't know why someone downvoted you, it's truth, Gunblade alone isn't OP, but synergized with Guinsoo... not only it increases Guinsoo's AOE damage by a lot by giving both AD and AP, but also heals for 15% of any damage done, even that on-hit from Guinsoo or Devourer, which is also being added to this synergy very often. Gunblade just increases power of already broken Guinsoo and Sated even more.

Resident Evil 43 votes

Yes yes, it's totally rageblade. Definitely not Fervor. item 3124

CatSith15 votes

Now i hope people can stop posting "Mages aren't viable anymore" threads. So annoying, there are tons of mages above the 50% win rate.

Zenthon Prime2 votes

A lot of them have pretty bad winrates given how crazy other champions are right now. It's just a few right now that have really silly synergies with masteries: Brand with his passive, Anivia with her ult(?), Lux with her standard combo, Zilean because idontevenwtf. The others (Malz and Annie) have always been up around 54% because they're easy and their counters are super out of meta.

EndlessSorcerer3 votes

IIRC, how Zilean's bombs collided with hitboxes was changed in the last patch, which may be responsible for his increased winrate. That and his recent passive change.

Rebonack12 votes

Koggy now has the dubious distinction of lowest win-rate in the game.

Poor Koggy.

Ariel the Cruel18 votes

Not surprising. He's a late game ADC at a time when the game ends during the lane phase.

Auz the Ripper3 votes

His W is also lack luster when built like an actual ADC, the 45% damage reduction means he only gets a 10% increase in AA damage from using that skill.

It's not worth all he pays to get that 5 Attacks per second without a crapton of onhits, and 90% of those are AP

Left Hook Larry11 votes

Win rate alone doesn't mean shit. Many of those champions are only played by people who main them such as Vel Koz, Trundle, etc. So it's obvious that these champs will have higher win rates.

Spicy Rice10 votes

Anyone notice how Yasuo isn't there?

Makes you wonder if the people saying how op Yasuo is are just butthurt.

Just sayin.....

Zenthon Prime47 votes

Yasuo barely missed the cut, having around a 53.5% winrate. Keep in mind that Yasuo has traditionally had a low winrate because of his popularity and skill floor.

Spicy Rice2 votes

Still though, the fact he isn't even in the top 20 in winrates has to mean something.

I agree the keystone was an unnecessary buff, but its frustrating for me as a Yasuo player to see all these people complaining about the "Most braindead op champ" (quote courtesy of an akali i played against)

Only Play Darius2 votes

Akali rapes Yasuo once she hits 6. Its actually a matchup that makes me want to get up and do something else (I play TB so I can't really avoid it), its just so frustrating seeing her 100-0 me with no way of fighting back after i zoned her and starved her of CS.

Yuri By Mail5 votes

Try facing Malzahar sometime. He's like, the dedicated Anti-Weeaboo champion and shits on nearly all Ionians and their overloaded mobility, I've heard.

Meep Man12 votes

Yasuo is like Azir. Due to his play style, he can be difficult to get a steady win rate with (for most) and therefore usually sits at around 45-48% win rate. A good Yasuo during this time, however, has an average of around 53.5% win rate.

Ok, now increase both %s to this time. The usually bad Yasuos have around a 52% win rate, so the good Yasuos likely have a win rate of around 61.5%.

Only Play Darius7 votes

Don't you dare compare Yasuo to Azir.

Azir, while similar to Yasuo in skill floor and how overloaded his kit is, isn't nearly as frustrating to deal with, and that's what makes people quit games. He can't gapclose on you every 2 seconds, he doesn't snowball out of control after 1 early kill etc. His problem is power creep and how he tends to outclass other control mages.

Its a matter of design. Power creep and toxic mechanics are two separate issues, just so happens with champs like Yasuo you get both at once. There are overloaded champions that can be balanced and manageable (Azir, Elise, Yi, Sona) and there are overloaded champions that can't be viable without being awful to deal with (Yasuo, Nidalee, Rengar, Kalista)

SaltyKracka10 votes

Frankly, I want to see how tanks are doing when people stop building 4 AD teams.

EndlessSorcerer10 votes

Couple notes:

  • I think part of the reason that tanks are doing well is that games are ending more quickly. Defense itemization is cheaper (and saw the smallest price increases) and games will often end before champions finish more than two major items which will in most cases not included percent penetration.

  • Another reason for tanks being successful may be people picking all-AD teams. Considering how well some of them synergize with the new masteries (Yasuo and Tryndamere with Warlord's Bloodlust, Devourer junglers with Fervor of Battle, etc), people seem to be spamming them in all roles with no regard for team composition. Tanks can just stack armor items and crush them with little effort.

  • Thunderlord's Decree is currently bugged. IIRC, it either shares a global cooldown for all champions on the same team or it's stacks will reset when a different champion with the mastery hits the target. When they is fixed, the winrate of champions who take the mastery will likely increase.

LordGeovanni1 votes

considering that buying defense doesnt help you to farm. and maybe pick up kills in the most round about way some times if your enemies brain dead (no offense to anyone) but buying ad and ap does and ap items and mr items are just about on par with each other with ap still being slightly stronger and having a way to by pass some mr and ap on spells helps you to farm and pick up kills with you on the initiative. and ad helps you to farm and pick up kills too. ad was brought down closer to armor slightly but any one that uses crit was brought up farther away from armor users that they already out classed and a vast majority of them out ranged. with more penetration items agumented damage life steal (healing) and mana regain on crits which would happen every 3 seconds with the bit of crit only to get faster also can heal large amounts every time you get a crit. crit users want for nothing but a built in healing cleanse oh wait isnt that Gangplank.

Kuroi8611 votes

considering that buying defense doesnt help you to farm

This is rarely a concern for tank mains. They already know their champ and how to farm with them. They know how low the minion needs to get and they know when they can use abilities to help farm up.

Stellafreyja9 votes

What's really annoying though is that because there were so many changes, it's really difficult to isolate why some champs went up. Syndra's winrate went up like 2% and her role position went up 15 places. Why? Is she a good counter to some ADCs? Do the new masteries work well with her?

Meanwhile, poor Nidalee. Completely and utterly trash in all her roles.

Pryotra7 votes

A "worrying trend": Heimerdinger, a champion almost specifically good at stomping SoloQ and only played by dedicated mains, is at 50.5% winrate.

As one such main, this literally didn't really change at all. Seriously, Heim doesn't give too shits about this patch, he has roughly the same winrate as before, only down a tiny amount due to the popularity of ADC's.

Zenthon Prime13 votes

Actually he used to be around 54%. It was basically his spot for all of last season, along with Malz and Swain.

Pryotra7 votes

well, really it's 2 things, but honestly nothing about how he plays or how successful he is has changed.

  1. Adc's are popular right now. They outrange turrets. Pretty simple.

  2. Masteries are funky for mages in general. Not alot of good choices tbh, but Heimer does OK here too compared to other mages.

tbh, I barely felt this patch on the donger, other than the increase in adc's.

Randomonium7 votes

Champion.gg just updated their data on the new patch. Most champions only have a couple of thousand of games played, which is too small of a sample size to draw any definitive conclusions on balance.

Give it a few days before you start rushing to conclusions.

Sire Hippington6 votes

Llux, malz and annie have pretty much the same winrate as they ad the last few months....vel also peaked at 54% two patches befor, Games are more snowbally and end faster, so strong early is pretty powerfull(Shen Velkoz Anivia Brand Trundle Hecarim Malzahar NautilusChogath ), all those champs have a high winrate in short games and fall off later( http://champion.gg/ ), in adition to either strong new masterie synergie or beeing stron in killing/supporting adc.

also, we have 17 champs below 45% winrate, there are just as much outlinetrs on the low end, the balance clearly is pretty off. however, balance beeing of is quite normal in preseason so i'm not really concerned about that

also, most off those outliners also have very low pickrates, which usually leads to more delicate winrates.

LankPants5 votes

DrMundo : Too tanky to be killed by overpowered ADCs, recently got buffs, hypersynergy with basically the entire Resolve tree Malphite : Direct ADC counter. Rammus : Direct ADC counter.

These champs have high win rates only because they counter the ADCs that everyone's spamming. Their high winrates don't stem from any problem with those champs, they come as a side effect to the power of ADCs.

Xanes1 votes

And yet only 2 out of the top 25 winrate champions are ADC's. Wow so broken.

Mathbalnase6 votes

Barring the most extreme fringe cases, actual power levels don't matter in cases like this. When the champions you counter become incredibly popular, your winrate goes up by a similar degree.

The play rates of ADCs are way up, so the win rates of their counters are also way up.

Harrada5 votes

I havent had a single problem with a mundo lane. My first purchase agaisnt mundo is item 3123 and everytime he fights me, his ult does almost nothing for him.

The Rewritten2 votes

WTF can someone explain to me how to Jungle Rammus then? Cause I have been playing him extensively all pre-season and he just doesn't work for me. Granted, I have 0 runes (level 19), but still. Maybe I'm just fuckin bad?

I start Talisman + 3 Pots, get heavy leash at bot (Krugs or Gromp, depending), then go for Red. By the time I clear Red I am already low -_- so I clear Rift Scuttler to give Red some time to heal me back, clear Raptors, then I reach level 3 and attempt a gank. If I succeed, then I go for Tracker's Knife. If I fail, I grab Boots and more Pots.

I feed every game. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Kuroi863 votes

Why start Krugs or Gromp? Rammus doesn't have an AS steroid to make use of Krugs and with Gromp you can just smite it and move onto your blue.

If you start near Red, then start with Red, then move to Wolves and then Blue. If you start near Blue, smite Gromp, get blue, Wolves, then Red.

^This is a typical path for most tank junglers on their first clear.
