Split or go back?

So, I have played a lot of games where my team gets caught or they start a teamfight 4v5 or something like that and I'm sitting watching things play out and I have a decision to make: 1) Go back and try to defend my towers 1v5, where I will most likely die trying 2) Go push a lane and try to get a tower. I've been flamed at for choosing the latter but I've been flamed for making correct decisions before so I'd like to know what the best decision is. I'm an elise main so frame it in the context of playing elise.

If you're split pushing as Elise you deserved to be flammed.

That being said, Elise does fall off rather hard in teamfights lategame, and splitpushing is a good way to use her high damage effectively.

If you put your team in a 4v5 late game you deserved to be flammed. Also, that dosent make any sense at all. If she's bad late game, why would you split to get 1v1d by someone who is better late game? And if they don't send someone, that's a 4v5 that sets your team up really badly. If you're splitting Botlane that gives the enemy team a super ready chance to do Baron. If you're splitting top that gives the enemy team a really good chance to elder. It's a lose lose situation especially late game. Elise is a stun bot late game.

Elise falls off heavily lategame, most likely you've already fucked up.

Putting your team in a 4v5 is fine if you have the team comp needed for it (like a Ziggs), and your enemy lacks the team comp needed to hard engage (like if they don't have an amumu)

Extremely situational. Read my edited reply.

She's bad lategame because her damage becomes unreliable in a teamfight, not because her damage falls off (although it usually does, since people often opt to build her tanky/bruisery to make her shit teamfighting better.)

Elise is a stunbot, cleanup, and a smite. As a stunbot, she's extremely unreliable, with only a moderate speed medium range skillshot bodyblockable projectile as her stun. Cleanup is only good after a teamfight, or if her team was good enough to basically win the fight without her. Smite, however, is very important.

That being said, teamfighting with Elise sounds extremely not fun. If you split push, you might bring someone top to fight 1v1, in which case your fight in the objective will be even (it rarely comes down to the jungler to smite secure, at least in my games) so you won't be too much of a burden on your team for picking someone who falls off lategame.

Typical league community trash ^ I didn't PUT them in that situation, they put themselves in that situation (not warding, overextending, etc.) I am asking what to do to respond to the situation numb nuts.

You should have been there to give your team a way better chance at winning the fight. "Numb nuts" if your team is dead splitting isn't going to do anything if you're not already in position to, they will just send more than 1 to deal with you.

She doesn't strike me as a good split pusher, as most of her power is in single target burst.

There's no good answer for OP's dilemma. As a Jungler, I would think sneaking an objective. But chances are, your team fought to contest said objective. (And contesting an objective like that is hard without the Junglers help)

That's exactly why she's splitpushing.

Elise is very short ranged, with her ranged abilities easily bodyblocked (W and E). In a teamfight, most likely these abilities are completely useless. Unless you get a pick on a priority target, but often priority targets hide behind tanks and minions.

While splitpushing you are able to use the entirety of your kit effectively. Your burst combo nearly oneshots skirmishers, mages and ADC's.

If anything you'll bring a tank or diver top lane, and even if you can't fight them, you're denying the enemy team a tank or a diver, who are both much more useful that Elise in a teamfight.

w elise you can take the rift herald really easily when spiderlings tank and you have lots of time to hit the back eye. she sucks at splitting w slower waveclear and lack of escapes. late game she's used for picks with the team, not splitting

Its your fault if you aren't grouped. No one else's. And not every team comp has good enough disengage to avoid a 4v5. That being said, if you find yourself in this situation, split pushing is your only option.
