Yesterday I was reminded why we need voice chat in League
I was duoing with my buddy Rubick and we were both 1/1 and 2/2 in our promos with the game deciding whether he'd get back to masters or not.
And then our top laner was all like "Yo, you're in promos, let's get on discord."
And so we all went on voice chat, with 2 random players. https://i.gyazo.com/60530f413b88188f8dc37876e8e9bff3.png
....
And we got absolutely destroyed early game. But nobody flamed, instead we used voice communication to organize calls, exchange crucial information and just overall started to outsmart the enemy by playing as one coherent unit rather than just 5 strangers forced to work together.
And lo and behold, we managed to come back from a huge gold deficit simply by revolving our strategy around our strengths and not waste time dwelling on our mistakes. There was no flaming despite a lot of us fucking up, there was no blaming, it was all about trying our hardest to win.
And we did. https://i.gyazo.com/27fc2439d527b5eae76384250c64d797.png
This made me realize how much we really need voice chat in this game as it's a way to really balance League of legends. There's a longstanding problem with certain champions just being worse for soloQ because of the lack of communication while some SoloQ picks just dominate the meta. Like this the discrepancy between high elo/pro play and lower tiers would become much, much smaller and really allow Riot to balance even the most team reliant champions.
And even then, voice chat discourages flaming as people simply don't have the time, balls or nerve to talk smack in voice chat and keyboard warrior mentalities wouldn't really work under such circumstances. And no, we were 4 in voice chat, we didn't have everyone communicating but even then it was more than enough to actually work as a team and win!
because League of legends is a team game and it should be seen as such!
