I was thinking of choosing kalista over vayne in ranked. Unless I am against a full tank enemy team, I would value dodging a lot of cc or any dives with kalista. Would this be a bad choice?

I am thinking of using annie mid over anivia and orianna mid. Is that also a bad choice?

Practice with Kalista a lot. She's a difficult champion. Although, if you can kite like a god, any ADC can dodge skill shots and take down tanks.

Also I think you should base your mid picks on the team your on and the team you're against. Personally I see Anivia as a safe pick, same with Orianna. Annie is all up in there and in your face. But that's just me.

Just practice, practice, practice.

Kalista getting gutted in 5.13 means that you'll be very unlikely to do much with her unfortunately.
