Why does
apply grievous wounds only on enemies below 40% health while
applies it regardless of health.
There's a pretty big difference between
throwing out a Q on 5 champions and applying Grevious wounds to all of them vs.
AAing 1 guy.
needs some restraint on Grevious Wounds or it would just shut down the healing/life-steal/HP5/spell-vamp of an entire team with very minimal effort. Due to the range on several abilities, you could even shut down Soraka/Nami/Sona heals when they're in the back line.
Alternatively:
has been the single biggest waste of gold in the game for the last 2 seasons with no reason to get it ever. If you're having issues vs. someone with life-steal, you were substantially better getting Thornmail or just life steal of your own if you actually scaled with crit and AD. If you were against Mundo or Swain, there's 0 reason you'd want to be within 550 range of either and focusing them down when anyone else was nearby.
If Ex Calling was any worse at applying Grievous Wounds than it is currently, it would likely drag
into a "never bout because horrible build" zone.
Can we please get some consistency here.
They both apply grievous wounds at 50% healing reduction, which is pretty consistent.
Otherwise what you're asking for is pretending 1k+ range AoE delivery systems are the same as 125~550 range single-target delivery systems.
They aren't.
On a side note, maybe give
grievous wounds so it doesn't seem like such a crappy item compared to the other tank items.
Thornmail being changed to simply prevent any life steal/spell-vamp off the user would make it an interesting choice.
ATM the main reason to grab it is more or less negating the life-steal of an AA heavy champion, and making that much more obvious/streamlined in face of items like
could give it an interesting niche.
Especially with an added active that actually fullfilled a bit of the sunfire-esque damage promise Thornmail seems to be making, may offer a thorny AoE effect that deals some DPS that scales with your armor.
Thornmail is stupidly oppressive in modes like Dominion or Treelines where you're actually fighting marksman vs. bruiser at level 5 though.
Without armor pen and life steal, the damage Thornmail unleashes is just really stupid. There is nothing good about shot an opponent repeatedly in the face, dodging all of their abilities, and promptly falling over dead because AFK kill item.
At least this was the case in Treelines until Thornmail was removed from that map mode because of the above stupid.
Adding Grievous Wounds ontop of Thornmail's existing mechanics would quite likely cause the AFK kill issue listed above to permeate well into late game, which would be really sub-optimal from a balance perspective.
