Riot tried no auto fill.

What happened was considered bad enough on their end that they felt required to put autofill in.

Let that skin in for a minute. Riot felt it at least more beneficial if not necessary to sometimes have players on their undesired positions over waiting likely 5+ minutes for a game.

Was it that people didn't want to wait? That the number of games were going down drastically? Were lots of people quitting the game (or just ranked) because of it?

I do not know, but riot would not have put autofill into place if there was no beneficial reason to do so on their end. And the fact that it has been kept for several years with no real talk of it being removed suggest it is not going anywhere.

So with this I conclude you are wasting your breath requesting for autofill to get removed. IF anything were to change it would likely be a modified version of first pick which was in place until season 6 happened and allowed for players wh oare willing to communicate the menas of giving themselves the best chance of victory based on what players in the team could do.

Perhaps trading pick order instead of champs might be a beneficial change since we now each get a ban meaning the first pick advantage of 3 bans is gone and that is about it.

so people cant wait 5 minutes but are ok with 15 minutes fiestas? .. i rather have 5 minute queues + 25 mins matches than 1 minute queues and 15 minute fiestas

You get the 15 minute fiasco either way.

You are missing one key detail: wait times were too long in flex/dynamic queue. They never tried to take out autofill from solo queue because they are afraid too many solo players would move out of flex queue.

THe thing people forget is that people at riot have an irrational attachment to dynamic/flex queue and will not hesitate to make changes which adversely effect solo queue to keep it alive.

Saezio1 votes

I mean, if that was the case, riot would have made soloq SOLO only and flex would have way more people

If that would have made a difference, riot would have made soloq solo only long ago. Truth of the matter is that wouldn't have mattered, flex queue is a joke.

How exactly would sending all the duos to flex queue not increase the population of the queue? There is no way it wouldn't have made at least a few more people go to flex.

Because the thing stopping players from playing more flex isn't that they can't duo in flex queue, it is because no one cares about flex. The only reason most people play flex is to mess around in a stress free environment. If riot removed duo from solo queue, players would just quit and that drop in playerbase would hurt flex more than anything else. Riot would have made that change long ago if it would help flex.

I would happily sit in a 10-15 minute que if it meant 3/5 players on my team weren’t always auto filled.

Or you know. Riot could just make jungle and support more fun buuuuuut. sips tea

I wouldn't. I'm not waiting 10 to 15 minutes to get a fuckin game. I don't have that kind of time to waste. Let auto fill stay. I would quit if the average wait time was 10 minutes. That's just fuckin insane. I've never played any online game that takes so long to get a game going.

It’s better than the current one sided shit stomp bullshit right now. Atleast then games aren’t decided by which team has more auto filled players

Removing auto fill won't fix that.

Except it will help. Because not ever game is going to have 2-3 people playing a role they don’t want to/ aren’t as good at.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Removing auto fill won't stop people from going 0-7 in 10 minutes. Please don't be this naive. People feed for two reasons. First reason, they are just shit at the game, something removing auto fill won't change. Second reason is because of the general imbalances that exist in the current state of the game. Certain matchups are decided very quickly. A good example of this would be match ups with lethality assassins like Zed and Talon who are extremely difficult to not die to when they get even a small lead. Bot lane has a vast majority of these types of hard snowballing match-ups. For example, a Lucian gets a double kill early game, that's gg for bot lane. They are just going to keep dying until the lane phase is over because of how extremely easy Lucian can snowball off very little.

None of these reasons have anything to do with auto fill. Removing it won't fix stomp fests, they will still happen just as often. Auto-fill only has a more pronounced effect at very high elo.

Oh yes. Because the auto filled jungle is going to be just as effective as a jungle main right?

The support who somehow got auto filled mid has the same chance of going 0/13 into the talon and the mid main right?

FioraWillCarry2 votes

Being a main at anything doesn't mean shit until high elo. There are million mastery points one trick Ashe mains in Iron. Thousands of ADC games on Ashe, why can't they get out of an elo a monkey could climb out of blind? They don't seem very effective do they.

Lul. Instead of Actually proving me wrong, all you’ve done is say “no you’re wrong, there are insert single cases where that isn’t right!”

You can say a brown bear is always brown, but I can always come up with a picture of an albino bear and say you are wrong.

Long story short, the exception is not the average.

They tried making support more fun and we got ardent meta making everyone else have a worse time with support still not being a position people wanted to play.

That wasn’t even riot doing anything to support. That was people saying “huh, this item is kind strong...... I’m gonna rush it”

They need items that do more interesting things for support tbh.

Er no. Riot was changing and adding new support items, and during this time we gain item 3504 and item 3107.

Ardent meta was not in s6 and its has it’s heal since before then. They only change that came to it before it’s gutting was reducing the healing and onhit damage and making them scale.

"but riot would not have put autofill into place if there was no beneficial reason to do so" Buwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I mean.. when I stop laughing, I will let you know. But we have everything since patch 8.11 to prove this wrong, right?

Leonaiten1 votes

So why do they put the autofill? If you disagre with this you should know a more accurate reason.

Metal Janna1 votes

It's not a matter of waiting 5 minutes. It's not a matter of waiting any finite number of minutes. No autofill would cause the queue time to grow without limit. If you aren't one of the first couple hundred players to queue up after the matchmaking queue begins, then you're looking at hours to days, with no way to tell which!

haaaaaaalp1 votes

That is just straight up false. It is impossible for queue times to grow without limit unless there was an infinite number of players or one role had zero players.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Oh it could get out of hand real fast. I remember old Team Builder. On a number of occasions I remember waiting as much as 25 minutes to get a game because no one wanted to play support. Auto fill has to stay. I'm not willing to wait 5 to 10 minutes to get a fuckin game, not to mention all the dodging just dragging on the time it takes to get an actual game.

There is a huge difference between team builder and role select. Instead of speculation, lets look at actual queue times with and without autofill:

https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=https://news-a.akamaihd.net/public/images/articles/2016/june/DQU/graph-queuetime.jpg?v=1

Queue times never got out of hand in role select outside of a few fringe cases which were caused by bugs on the initial implementation

I remember when auto-fill didn't exist. Queue times were much higher. Auto-fill was a great call. I was glad when they implemented this and reduced queue times. To be honest, if Riot didn't implement auto-fill, I would have probably quit this game long ago. Waiting 5, 10 or even 15 minutes for a game is sheer madness. I'm not willing to put up with that for too long. No online game I know takes 5+ fuckin minutes to get a game going.

The main reason I quit Starcraft was long wait times on the ICCUP server after Starcraft 2 caused a mass exodus of players. I'd still be playing it today if that hadn't occurred. After the exodus, it went from an average of 30 seconds to get matched with a player of equal skill to 15 minutes. I have even heard players waiting as much as an hour to get a game. I tried to stick around but in the end I just couldn't. The wait times were just too much. I found League and I've been here ever since.

I'm just here to praise some (rare) rational thinking in this forum. Congratulation.

Saezio1 votes

Well, they could instead not let people queue up as the roles that are in abundance at that time and force them to queue up as the role with the least people in the first place. That way people will not have to wait until lobby to see they are filled which will remove some of the frustration at least. Or they could simply not queue up at that time if the available roles are not to their liking.
