Adding Item Diversity : Gem Sockets
I know this is a far stretch from their current system, but I think it would add a lot of diversity to mid-late game item builds. The only items that get gem sockets would be the big build items - any item costing 2500 or over total has 1 gem socket. The gems are normally purchasable items that add new stats or improve upon already existing stats to the item.
Some example gems: Vitality Gem - Adds 10% to any health and health regen bonuses on the item Ferocity Gem - Adds 10% to any AD or life steal bonuses on the item Spellpower Gem - Adds 10% to any AP or spellvamp bonuses on the item Priest's Gem - Adds 50% to any heal or shield item
Example(only including affected stats):
Warmog's - 800 health with vitality gem becomes 880 health Bloodthirster - 80 damage , 20% lifesteal with ferocity gem becomes 88 damage, 22% lifesteal Hextech Gunblade - 80 AP, 20% spellvamp with spellpower gem becomes 88 AP, 22% spellvamp Face of the Mountain - Kill minions heal (50 + 1% hp to ally) and active shield ally for 10% max health with Priest's Gem becomes Kill minions heal(75 + 1.5% hp to ally) and active shield ally for 15% max health
Obviously these are not balanced, but with a variety of gems and properties I think this would add a lot of complexity to mid-late game builds that people want instead of seeing the same old items.
